The mouse moving along with his dog was their cue! Hurriedly, and without telling Mr. Panko (but then he probably understood, being the Master Prankster he also was) the lads darted down the walkway, off to the side out of sight, but taking in the directions Basil took.
Harris struggled to both keep a good handle on the glue bottle, watch where his feet went and follow along and not lose his brothers, but he accomplished all this.
Hamish knew they couldn't follow the whole way, and so had to at some point, guess correctly the rest of the directions and make it to the mouse's house before he did, spread the sticky, and then hide.
A tall order. One it was probably good three little pranksters were attempting.
There was a saying about well laid plans, men and even mice, but the boys didn't know it; all the same, their chaotic explorations and pranking sometimes took turns they didn't foresee. Even this grand day was no exception.
"I's tipping..., Harris stepped to correct as he almost lost control of the bottle of sticky even as they followed along to the side of Basil in bushes and such.
Hubert had just been pondering over how much harder this was with a dog that would perhaps smell them with Basil, when he caught his brother's statement and turned to him. Hamish too. They quickly lessened their pace to turn and attempt to aid their brother.
"No, that way, Harris you're..."
"Hold onta' it!".
Cover blown or not, they stumbled from the bushes, looking almost like they were fighting over a giant (to them anyway) bottle of glue, rather than attempting to help one of them hold it.
Seeing all their plans going up in uselessness, Hamish yanked the bottle suddenly to him, to steady it, all he really did was point the nozzle straight towards both Basil and Toby and, in his gripping, squeeze it so that the white stuff shot out in a stream straight towards both.
Not planned, but still...the lads erupted into laughter at the sight before them.
{I'll leave how messy up to you and if anything here doesn't work just say so...and yes, they should probably get ready to run, I'm guessing }
