Dear Members of Worlds of Disney:
The start of a new year seems like an appropriate time to tell you a little story.
It was 2008, an eternity ago, when I joined Worlds of Disney. It was my first-ever try at text role-playing, and I was hooked very quickly. The site has gone through multiple upheavals since then, and I with it; we have endured restarts, unwanted upgrades, troll attacks, mass exoduses, attempted coups, and I don't know what all, and always, somehow or other, come out the other side. And in all that, I was given the privilege of taking over as head Admin.
The past four months or so were a very dark time, a dry spell so disastrous that I had to enlist my own relations as members. And still I spent most days talking to myself, as it were. In fact, I had just about decided that the site would close in the summer of 2015.
But look at us today. A few weeks and a few members was all it took to make the site come alive again with a vigor I never thought I'd see again.
What I'm trying to say, in my own grandiose way, is thank you. Thank you to the members who make Worlds of Disney what it is. Without you, it's just dead air space.
It's ironic that the nature of the internet allows anyone access to any site from anywhere, while it somehow encourages impermanence. I don't understand it, but I acknowledge it. I realize that most of you are young, and your lives will be filled with changes: school, careers, marriage, children, and who-knows-what. Mine, on the other hand, is pretty much set. So I expect you to come and go, and that's okay. RPing should enhance your life, not control it. If we can keep up an influx of newbies as people move on, we may survive into the next year. And the next. And...well, God only knows.
So, again, though it's inadequate to convey my gratitude, I say thank you all for your participation. I'm looking forward to a fantastic 2015, and I hope you'll all join me.
