Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Elizabeth has dark blonde hair that passes her shoulders when down. When she needs to be among society as a lady of England, she will wear her hair up in curls, but she much prefers it down.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Elizabeth learned at an early age to hide her emotions, as ladies of the time were supposed to. However, she was never able to keep a smile from her face at the sight of Will.
Clothing style: Elizabeth is usually found in the common garb of a pirate captain in the early-to-mid 1700s. She wears a pair of black trousers, as well as a knee-length black coat embroidered with gold, and a wide leather belt around her waist. However, when needs be, she will wear what would be considered proper for a lady of her age and birth: a full-length gown with loose sleeves and a corset.
Body build: Elizabeth is tall, standing around 5’8”. She has kept herself in good shape throughout her life, with a healthy diet and long walks around Port Royal, and that was before her piracy truly began. She has arm strength, from hours of sword practice with Will.
Any unique traits (optional): When it’s not tied too tightly, Elizabeth can wear a corset for hours.

Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality: Elizabeth loves adventure. She is smart, a natural leader, and charismatic. She is intelligent and quick-thinking, and she has a decent knack for strategy. She does tend to speak her mind, however, even if it’s not considered proper. Elizabeth was raised to be a lady, but she always longed for life on the sea. She can be very determined, and will do what she can to get what she wants. She is loyal, as well, and will help and protect her friends whenever and however she can.
History: Elizabeth was born in London, England, in the early 1720s. She was sheltered as a child, but the word of pirates managed to make its way to Elizabeth, and she was fascinated by all of it. In dismay, Elizabeth’s father took her to Port Royal, in the Caribbean, where he had recently been made governor. He hoped she would leave her slight pirate obsession behind in England, but it stuck with her.
On the trip, the twelve-year-old girl spotted a boy in the water, and the crew was able to save him. Elizabeth suspected he was a pirate, due to a medallion he wore around his neck. Fearing what the crew would do to a pirate, even if he was a child, Elizabeth stole the medallion and kept it hidden for years.
Elizabeth grew into a beautiful young woman. She kept in touch with the boy from the water, Will Turner, as much as she could, even though her father disapproved. They never spoke of his past, or the medallion.
Elizabeth awoke from a dream featuring Will Turner, and it reminded her of the medallion, so she pulled it out to wear it around her neck. Her father arrived then, with a gift of a new gown with a tight corset, claiming it was the latest fashion in London. It was for her to wear at Lieutenant Norrington’s promotion ceremony. The maids helped her dress and she attended the party with her father.
The now-promoted Commodore Norrington drew Elizabeth aside to speak with her, leading up to a proposal. However, before she could answer, she fainted and fell off the cliff, miraculously missing the rocks in the sea below. She awoke later on a dock, wearing the shift that kept the corset from leaving blisters on her skin. The commodore, and her father, arrived, and Norrington had his men keep their weapons aimed at the man who had saved her, revealing him to be Jack Sparrow, a pirate. She protested, intending to speak with the pirate at the first opportunity about his… “profession”. Instead, he threatened her, forcing everyone involved to release him or kill them both. The governor reluctantly relented, and Jack Sparrow made his escape. The guards of Port Royal pursued the pirate, while the governor took his daughter home.
Elizabeth spent the rest of the evening trying to relax and recover from the day’s events. A maid helped her settle into bed, providing a bed of coals to warm Elizabeth’s feet. After a brief conversation, Elizabeth was left alone, and the lamp blew out in a strange wind. Elizabeth heard the commotion and left her room to warn the butler not to open the door, but he did, and was shot for it. Elizabeth returned to her room where the maid surprised her, saying pirates had attacked the port, surely to kidnap the governor’s daughter.
Panicking, Elizabeth instructed the maid to make her escape, and raced through the house in an attempt to hide. She made her way to a wardrobe, and thought for sure she would be safe, but a pair of pirates tracked her in spite of her preparations. She claimed parley, which would ensure her safety, and she demanded to be taken to the captain. They reluctantly agreed. And on their way to the pirates’ ship, Elizabeth caught a glimpse of Will. At least someone would know where she was.
Upon arriving on the pirates’ ship, Elizabeth realized that perhaps she hadn’t thought things through, especially when the captain agreed to leave Port Royal, but not without returning Elizabeth to shore. She recognized that the pirates were after the medallion, based on what the pirates said, as well as the fact that she recognized the ship from her crossing from England eight years earlier, when she had met Will. She claimed her name as Turner, not wanting to reveal her true name to the pirates. The captain ordered his crew to leave Port Royal.
Elizabeth spent a few nights hiding in the cabin the captain had provided for her. One night, the pirates approached her to inform her that she would either be dining with the captain wearing a dark red dress, or with the crew, naked. She reluctantly agreed to dine with the captain. There, he told her a story about the medallion, and that it was cursed, and only she could break the curse for him, returning him to his humanity. She didn’t believe him, and made an effort to kill him and escape. But he did not die, leading her to stumble away in disbelief, onto the main deck, where she was confronted with a skeleton crew. The captain had been telling the truth.
Elizabeth spent the next few days hiding in her cabin again, this time because she was afraid of the crew. Captain Barbossa forced her to leave the cabin, taking her to a cave. After a fancy speech, he sliced her palm, wrapped her hand around the medallion, and then dropped the medallion in the chest with the others. But the pirates were still cursed, and Elizabeth realized then that she was probably close to being killed for having lied about her name.
Barbossa slapped Elizabeth, sending her and a medallion tumbling down the small mountain of treasure. Will arrived, and helped Elizabeth sneak away. They left the cave and arrived on another ship. Elizabeth feared more pirates, but she shortly recognized a face from the crossing from England. And Will was working with the men, so Elizabeth assumed the men were honorable. She spoke with Will as he bound her hand, and she learned that they had taken her because she had claimed the name Turner. It was actually his blood that they needed to break the curse. The ship departed the cave, with the Black Pearl close behind.
The Pearl was catching up quickly. Elizabeth realized that there was a solution: to outrun the Pearl and lose them among the shoals nearby. The Pearl would founder, while the Interceptor would be able to get away. The plan was working, until they realized that the Pearl was moving too quickly. So Elizabeth came up with another plan: to drop the starboard anchor so they could fire at the Pearl.
Elizabeth’s plan ultimately failed, and she and the rest of the men on the Interceptor were captured and brought on board the Black Pearl. Will, assumed dead in the blast that destroyed the Interceptor, arrived, surprising everyone. He insisted that Elizabeth was to be released.
However, Will had failed to specify that Elizabeth be released at a port, and Barbossa marooned Elizabeth and Jack Sparrow on an island—the same island, in fact, that Sparrow had been marooned on years before. After a night of heavy drinking, Elizabeth realized that Jack Sparrow had the potential to be a respectable man, but rum would not make him respectable. So while he slept, Elizabeth built a pyre to signal the Royal Navy. They arrived the following morning.
Elizabeth bartered for Will’s rescue, asking the Commodore to save Will as a wedding gift to her. She would accept Norrington’s proposal.
Plans were made, and Elizabeth was barricaded in the Commodore’s cabin for her safety before she could inform the Commodore that the pirates were immortal. She made an escape of her own, making her way to the Pearl where she freed the Interceptor’s crew. From there, she convinced the crew to help her save Will and Jack. She made her way to the cave. It was fairly abandoned, as most of the pirates had gone out to attack the Dauntless. Working together with Will and Jack, they defeated Barbossa and his crew. Will broke the curse, and together the three of them returned to the Dauntless. Norrington ordered the crew to make their way back to Port Royal.
At Jack’s hanging, Will approached Elizabeth, Norrington, and the governor to inform Elizabeth that he had loved her since they first met. He then turned to free Jack, and Elizabeth fainted for a spell. She awoke to watch the brief battle that took place between Jack, Will, and the guards. Will declared that his place was between the guards and Jack. Elizabeth joined him, saying it was her place as well. Norrington was heartbroken, but understanding that Elizabeth was following her heart.
Norrington delayed for a day in pursuing Sparrow, allowing the pirate—and good man—time to get away. Elizabeth shared her first kiss with Will, pleased that her father didn’t disapprove of her choice as much as she had feared he would.
Some months later, Elizabeth was preparing for her wedding. She was dressed and waiting in the rain when Will arrived—with an armed guard. The East India Trading Company had warrants of arrest for her, Will, and Norrington. Elizabeth’s father read the warrant, informing them that they were arrested for helping Jack Sparrow escape the gallows, and were sentenced to death.
Will was able to make a deal with Lord Beckett: Jack’s compass for his and Elizabeth’s lives. However, the governor didn’t trust that Jack would cooperate, and made his own arrangements for Elizabeth’s escape. She didn’t want to leave Will alone, so she escaped the carriage and met with Beckett herself, stealing the letters of marque that were intended for Jack. She believed in Will, but she feared he would fail, and she wanted to help him.
With the threat of a pistol, Elizabeth convinced Beckett to sign and seal the letters of marque. She stowed away aboard a ship, storing her wedding gown on board. This proved potentially disastrous, when her gown was found and the captain ordered a search of the ship. Using the sailors’ superstitions against them, she convinced them to set sail for Tortuga, where she found Jack Sparrow searching for extra people for his crew. She ran into James Norrington, and they joined Jack’s crew. Elizabeth told Jack she was searching for Will, and Elizabeth was distraught to learn that Will was aboard Davy Jones’ ship. He gave her his compass, telling her the secret that it pointed to what she wanted most. With his compass in her hands, he announced that they had a heading.
As they sailed, Elizabeth discussed the letters and Beckett’s deal with Jack and Mr Gibbs. Norrington overheard, and approached her about her trust of Sparrow, asking if she had learned the real reason Will was on the Dutchman in the first place. Further conversation with Jack revealed to her that she had some feelings for Jack, but she was too ashamed to admit it.
She went ashore with Jack and Norrington in search of the chest which Jack claimed would free Will. After much digging, they pulled up a chest from the sand. Jack opened it by breaking the lock and pulled out a smaller chest. Will arrived, and after a joyous reunion with Elizabeth, Will approached the chest, announcing he was going to kill Jones in order to free his father. The discussion turned into a three-way swordfight between Will, Norrington, and Jack. Elizabeth did her best to interrupt the fight, feigning heatstroke, yelling insults, but to no avail. She spotted Pintel and Ragetti making off with the chest, and pursued, knowing that the chest was important.
Her chase led her through some trees, and she drew her sword to fight Pintel and Ragetti. They dropped the chest, and the three were preparing to fight when a massive water wheel rolled by, with Will and Norrington fighting atop it, and Jack running after. The pirates from the Flying Dutchman arrived, chasing after her, Pintel, and Ragetti (who scooped up the chest). The two pirates dropped the chest again after running into a tree. The trio worked together to fight Jones’ pirates with two swords, and the chest was forgotten.
The chase continued, and the chest was in their path. Elizabeth carried two swords, and the two pirates picked up the chest again. At the shore again, Elizabeth held off pirates and the water wheel passed again, thankfully reducing Elizabeth’s opponents, if only for a moment.
Elizabeth retreated, still fighting, to the rowboat, and the pirates made their way back to the Pearl but Davy Jones arrived, and the Pearl had to make its escape. Elizabeth watched the Dutchman fall behind. The crew cheered, until Will recognized that the kraken was about to attack. The pirates prepared to make a stand, fearfully obeying Will’s command. With Will’s direction, the pirates made a valiant effort. But Will knew the kraken—and Davy Jones—wouldn’t give up. The pirates prepared a bomb of sorts, and Elizabeth vowed to take her shot as soon as Will was clear. He urged her to shoot, even though he wasn’t clear—he was stuck—but before she could fire, the kraken dragged her out of position. Jack returned, and he made the shot; thankfully, Will had cut himself free in time. With the only rowboat the Pearl had left, Elizabeth manipulated Jack into staying on board the Pearl—with a kiss and a pair of irons—while the rest of them made their escape. She had realized that the kraken would not give up until it had Jack.
The longboat made the journey to Tia Dalma’s shack, and Elizabeth avoided Will as much as she could. Once there, Tia Dalma informed them that they needed to bring Jack back from the dead, and there was only one person who could help them journey to Davy Jones’ Locker: Hector Barbossa.
Elizabeth rowed into Singapore, singing a pirate song that called the Pirate Lords to meet. After months of plans and preparations, she and Barbossa were meeting with Captain Sao Feng, of the waters of the seas of South China, to borrow a ship and a crew. Meanwhile, Will was sneaking into Sao Feng’s warehouse in order to steal the charts they would need to get to Davy Jones’ Locker.
Will had been caught, however. Barbossa was prepared to let Will die, feigning non-acquaintance with Will; he had gone in knowing it was a chance. However, Elizabeth was not prepared for it, and betrayed that they did, indeed, know Will. She spoke directly to Sao Feng, telling him that he needed to fight, and not cower in his bathhouse. Sao Feng threatened the life of a man working in his bathhouse, and Barbossa denied cooperation with the man, inviting Feng to kill him.
The East India Trading Company had infiltrated the bathhouse, and they were attacking.
With the help of the other pirates from Jack’s original crew, Elizabeth, Will, and Barbossa made their escape, and began their voyage. Barbossa led them through freezing waters. Elizabeth listened as Gibbs recounted a tale of the green flash, at Barbossa’s request. Barbossa informed them they would have no trouble getting to Davy Jones’ Locker, the problem was to return to the land of the living.
Under Barbossa’s command, the ship went over a waterfall, despite the crew’s attempts to turn the ship away. They made the swim to the shore of a vast, abandoned desert. Jack, and the Black Pearl arrived over the crest of a sandy hill, and the ship made a splash landing in the water.
Together with Barbossa, Tia Dalma, and Will, Elizabeth convinced Jack that they weren’t a hallucination, and that they needed to return to the land of the living so the Brethren Court could convene and decide what to do about the EITC.
But because Jack had revealed that Elizabeth was the one who had managed to kill him, a rift formed between Elizabeth and her fiancée. She kept herself busy on the ship, but that night, small boats began to appear in the water. Elizabeth thought nothing of them, until she realized her father was on one. She begged him to return with them, to the point of preparing to jump in to save him. Will stopped her, and it sank in that her father was now dead, too. Her heart was broken.
Jack was reading the charts, and he started to cause a stir, racing back and forth across the deck while babbling gibberish. The crew followed, and the ship began rocking, to the point that they had difficulty running up the slope of the deck because of how steep it was. The ship crashed into the water, coming to a rest completely upside down. They all held the railing, unsure what to do. There was a flash of green, and the ship moved vertically through the water, crashing through the surface. Gibbs announced they were back.
After a confrontation between Barbossa and Jack, with Elizabeth, Will, and Gibbs standing at the side, erupted on the deck, about the Brethren Court meeting at Shipwreck Cove. However, none of their pistols worked, due to wet powder. They made sail for a small island that had a freshwater spring. Jack and Barbossa led a party ashore, leaving Will and Elizabeth on the ship. It didn’t take long for another ship to arrive, with Sao Feng on board. He revealed that he had been working with Sao Feng to gain captain-ship of the Pearl so he could free his father.
A ship belonging to the EITC appeared on the horizon next, and Jack left to board it. Sao Feng betrayed Will, and then the EITC betrayed Sao Feng. Barbossa discussed a plan to recapture the ships from the Company, and Elizabeth agreed to go with Sao Feng in return for his cooperation.
On board Sao Feng’s ship, he treated her like royalty, giving her new clothes to wear, addressing her with respect, and calling her Calypso. Elizabeth realized what Sao Feng thought, and she played along, pretending to be the goddess of the sea, and he gave her information. After an attack by Davy Jones, Sao Feng died, and named her captain of his ship. She went to the main deck, telling the crew of Sao Feng’s last words.
The EITC, led by Admiral Norrington, boarded the Elizabeth opted to remain with her crew instead of going to Norrington’s cabin, even though the crew had betrayed her, initially claiming they would not follow her, and then answering Davy Jones’ question with pointed fingers.
In the brig of the Dutchman, Elizabeth called out for Bootstrap Bill. She knew from talking with Will that he was on board somewhere, and she felt he would be an ally, possibly enough of one to help them escape. But upon finding him, Bill declared that Will wouldn’t return, because of Elizabeth. Bill was confident that Will would choose her over Bill, and that Will would choose Elizabeth.
Norrington, having learned that Elizabeth’s father had been killed by Beckett, helped Elizabeth and her crew escape the Dutchman. He was killed as a result, much to Elizabeth’s dismay. Elizabeth and her crew returned to the Empress, setting sail for Shipwreck Cove.
Elizabeth was able to adapt to captain-hood quickly. She arrived at Shipwreck Cove and informed the Court that she had been given the title. She demanded they fight, and the captains argued against it. Barbossa proposed freeing Calypso as an alternative. A fight broke out, and Elizabeth spoke quietly with Barbossa and Jack about what they could do. Jack offered that they fight, so they can run.
Barbossa informed the Court that no one but the Pirate King could declare war, and Captain Teague arrived, supporting Barbossa’s statement. The Code elaborated the details of a Pirate King. Gibbs explained that there hadn’t been a Pirate King in years, because it was by vote. And every captain voted for him- or herself. Jack Sparrow called for a vote, and Elizabeth watched as every pirate indeed voted for themselves. However, everyone was surprised with Jack Sparrow’s vote of Elizabeth Swann.
Named the Pirate King, Elizabeth declared war upon the EITC. The ships met, but before cannons began firing, Elizabeth, Barbossa, and Jack met with Beckett, Jones, and Will. Elizabeth proposed an exchange of Will for Jack. Barbossa declared that since Jack was one of the Pirate Lords, Elizabeth had no right to exchange him to Beckett, and Elizabeth responded that she could, because she was the Pirate King.
Back aboard the Pearl, Barbossa began the ritual to release Calypso. Elizabeth watched uncertainly, and then in fear as the ritual was completed, and Tia Dalma grew to the size of a giant after Will revealed that Davy Jones had been the one to betray her. Tia Dalma stood just tall enough to reach the crow’s nest. After Barbossa begged her to help him, she burst into crabs, much to everyone’s surprise.
Elizabeth prepared her ship to fight with a rousing speech. Elizabeth called for the ships to hoist their colors, and she felt a flash of pride at the sight of all of the flags atop the masts. Rain began pouring down, out of what had been a clear sky just moments ago. A whirlpool appeared before them, and Elizabeth called Barbossa to the wheel, knowing if anyone could lead them safely past it, it was he.
The Dutchman and the Pearl circled in the maelstrom, and their masts eventually locked together. Will asked Elizabeth to marry him, immediately. Elizabeth finally married Will, courtesy of Barbossa. While it wasn’t the ceremony Elizabeth had pictured—due to frequent interruptions by attacks—Elizabeth found it romantic all the same. She and Will cooperated to defeat their attackers, and in the middle of the rain, and the battle, Elizabeth shared a beautiful kiss with her husband.
Davy Jones appeared, squaring off against Elizabeth. He knocked her unconscious. She awoke to see Jones standing over Will. Jack appeared, holding a dagger over Jones’ heart. Jones stabbed Will, assuming Jack wouldn’t stab the heart in favor of Will. Elizabeth knelt next to her husband, doing her best to keep him conscious and alive. Jack wrapped Will’s hand around the dagger and stabbed Jones’ heart with it. But Elizabeth thought it was too late when Will’s eyes closed. Jack dragged Elizabeth away from Will’s dead body, taking her back to the Pearl. There he ordered the crew to settle in and wait.
The Flying Dutchman burst from the water, with Will at the helm. There was no time to rejoice, however, as the EITC armada was still facing them. Together with the Dutchman, the Pearl attacked the Endeavour, Beckett’s ship. It was left in pieces.
The rest of the armada fled at the sight of the two fastest ships of the pirates’ fleet aiming at them.
Gibbs prepared a longboat for Elizabeth. She rowed off to meet with Will. After spending the rest of the day with her husband, he left the chest in her care, knowing it would be safe. She made her way back to Port Royal, and moved back into her father’s house. She kept the chest with Will’s heart buried in her closet, under the hems of her gowns. She assumed governorship of Port Royal, and none of the town disagreed. She knew Will would be able to find her there.
Ambitions: Elizabeth has found her place in life, by Will’s side (once every ten years). She really has no real ambitions anymore, except to live out her life in happiness.
Strengths & abilities: skilled with a sword, decent aim with a gun,
Flaws: can be overdramatic, can be overly passionate,
Likes: Will Turner, pirates, Jack Sparrow, Bootstrap Bill, Tortuga, Port Royal,
Dislikes: Cutler Beckett, the EITC,
Fears: losing Will (if another was to find and stab his heart, for whatever reason),
Anything to add?: Elizabeth has been married to Will for a year when I pull her from the movie. She becomes the governor of Port Royal, since her father died, and she keeps the title of Pirate King. But, since Will is not by her side when she returns to Port Royal, and his price of captaining the Dutchman for the next ten years causes Elizabeth pain to speak of, she doesn't tell the people that she married him. In fact, she doesn't tell the people anything about Will's disappearance. She uses the name of Swann, partly to make the change of governorship easier (they don't have to change a sign which read that the governor of Port Royal was named Swann, etc).
It's really just an elaborate excuse for me to be allowed to refer to her as Swann, instead of trying to remember her last name is now Turner.
