I met one who helped me out with a previous situation. A certain Basil of Baker Street, if I recall
"Oh, sure, I know Basil." answered Gadget. "We've investigated a few things together."
Seriously? I just met the sheila.
Gadget whispered a thank-you to Jake, adding a comment that her name wasn't Sheila, but that was okay, as everybody forgot names sometimes, especially with people they just met. Hoping to turn the conversation to other, less embarrassing topics, the brainy mouse went on:
"So, you live here? I have a house in Epcot. It's in an oak tree near Innoventions. I never thought of living in one of the rides. Do you like it? Do you find it cuts down on your privacy much? What with all the tourists and people wanting to ride the ride, I mean."

Héctor chuckled softly at how cute the little fawn was, feeling bad that he caused her some confusion with his insertion of the spanish language. Because it was his first language, it tended to slip out at times. He placed a skeletal hand on his forehead, shaking his head with an apologetic smile. “No, no..I apologize for that..it is from the Spanish language! Cariño..It means..you are sweet, like..eh.. what you call affectionate..?” He smiled timidly with a small shrug, hoping that she wouldn't take offense to such a nickname. It was just the first thing he thought of when he saw her; she seemed like such a sweet, peaceful animal and he just wanted to give her some affection. Probably the last time he used such as word was with his own daughter.
"What was forward about it, Señor Zombie?...I never mentioned romance, I just said this place was big enough for the both of them."
“..You can hear that?” Was Héctor's wide-eyed reaction to Reuben's response, knowing that he had said it lowly where only Faline would be able to hear it since she was right next to him. His parted mouth instantly turned into an interested smile. That Reuben not only had a good sense of language, but he also had great ears! He wondered if he had an ear for music! “Wait, what..Señor..Zombie?" His expression instantly dropped down to a deadpan stare and pinched the bridge of his nose, "Hah-ha! Very funny..!" He remarked sardonically with a wry frown. Perhaps it was because he grew up in the 1900s that he grew up with this formality, but perhaps in Reuben’s time, that was considered normal? Still, he had to defend himself! “Look, I never said anything about romance, okay? This kind of thing would never happen even among friends that are girls where I come from!" He whispered hoarsely to him with a raise of his index finger before crossing his arms with an immature pout, not wanting to ruin the moment that the two mice were having by saying it louder than a whisper. He considered Jake a friend after he was so helpful to him before, especially in helping reunite with his wife, so he wasn’t going to ruin his big moment with that girl! He glanced over at them with concern before lifting himself off from being on bended knee by Faline and sitting fully down on the floor, bending both his knees up against his ribbed chest.
“..Mate?” The centurian musician lifted an eyesocket at Faline when she mentioned how she knew about husband and wife, as a way of men calling them their mates. Did she mean what he thought that meant? No, no. She was practically a child in animal form, at least in his eyes! Wait. He heard Jake said something about mate that he took to meaning like an amigo. Maybe that was what she was referring to? Well, either way..“Oh, she is more than that! She's the love of my life!” The hopeless romantic said amorously with a hand to his ribbed chest. He loved her even before they were husband and wife. “And I am hers as much as she is mine, Fali.. " He added with an affectionate smile, not wanting to take ownership of her; she was always equal or above him in his eyes. Imelda was better than him in many things, but he loved that about her; it just always made him always want to be a better person. "My wife..She’s got the strongest spirit than anyone you could ever meet! Oh, she’s so passionate in everything she does, even when she sings!" From her passion for shoes, to music, to commanding a room with her presence, she does it all in such a passionate way that he couldn't help but pay attention to her always. "She doesn't even need me.. not really, you know? She's got it all figured out on her own!" He said this with such an admiring tone of voice as he further described how Imelda was so powerful and strong, she didn't depend on him for anything. She managed to have her own place and take care of Miguel and Rosa here on her own, just like she managed to do with the rest of their family. Of course, he was definitely going to help in all he can, but he was just proving how independent and strong his wife was. "..But I know that she loves me... even when I have nothing to offer her..and I think that makes me feel even more lucky to get the chance to be with someone like her.." He added in a soft tone of adoration, a small smile forming over his bearded chin at the thought of how lucky he was for Imelda to have chosen him of all people. He was lucky that Imelda loved him, not because she needed his rising fame.. she loved him even when he was a nobody and just wanted to be with him.. and that was the purest form of love anyone could find, enough to eventually forgive him for the terrible wrong he had committed to his family.
A bright smile formed on his skeletal face upon hearing the little fawn talk about her friend named Bambi! "Aw your amigo, Bambi, sounds nice! It’s good that you are friends!" He encouraged her with a smile, “Back when we were alive, me and my wife, Imelda..we also started off as friends before we had gotten married..” He paused for a moment with a small smile that contained a hint of sadness in it, “Eh, just enjoy your every moment, cariño!” He shrugged with a broader smile as he placed his bandaged arm on top of his bent knees while sitting down, wanting to rest his arm for a while. He didn’t even get to be alive that long to enjoy his married life while he was alive.. there were so many things he wished he could have done differently..so he didn’t want anyone else making the same mistake he did. That was why his suggestion was always to enjoy every moment to the fullest. He glanced at Gadget and Jake's interactions admiringly from further away. Therefore, even though he came for the tour, he wasn't going to interrupt his mouse friend's moment.
Reuben seemed to not realize the implication of what he said, instead going with the fact that, yes, it was spacious. Jake would just sigh and roll his eyes, more in amusement than annoyance; he did admit, this place could seat quite a few people in it. Jake himself could live in it easily, and anyone smaller than human size could find a spot as well. Though, if a human was to live here, there would be only room for one of them.
"Well, it is rather big. That is why I was thinking of having it set up to be livable for anyone, not just me." He explained, "I had a fly who lived with me back in Australia. He was good company, besides the fact he kept beating me in checkers..."
Faline's comment about having a mate sparked a conversation from Héctor about his wife, which led into Faline mentioned about someone named Bambi. At least that was going well. It was a surprise before when Hector found his wife living in the parks. Perhaps sometime, he should hang out with Héctor's family. Get to know them a bit. Though the talk about mates and so, distracted Jake from what he was doing. And thankfully, the other mouse was able to break him from it, by mistakenly believing that he called her the wrong name. Oh, right! Not everyone was from Australia.
"Oh, sorry bout that. Ya see, where I come from, sheila means girl. Its more of a slang, really. For instance, g'day, means hello," He'd clarify so there wasn't any more confusion, "Now, as I was saying, I was trying to make this place more livable. It might be made for someone like Héctor, being human sized, but I was able to get permission to set up here. I got some basic ideas, though, no way to do them. Like that radio..."
"Si." he replied. His expert hearing had apparently caught Hector's attention. So did his nickname. "Little Bear is also a "funny" nickname." he said. They weren't were Hector was from or even when, but Reuben decided to drop the subject. "Alright, alright." he replied. Nonchalantly, he finished one sandwich and began rummaging in his pack for another. As he dug around in his pack, he listened to the fawn and the undead Latino go on and on about their love lifes. He, too, had a deep and significant relationship. With sandwiches. They'd never understand. He also liked Angel. Though he also referred to her as his cousin. Again, they'd never understand. He decided to switch tracks and listen in on Jake's conversation with the sheila mouse. "What about the radio?" he asked.
Héctor explained what he had meant by his term. Cariño meant sweet! Aww! The little fawn smiled, and her tail gave a small little wag. "Oh! Then I like it!", she assured. Héctor next looked shocked that Reuben could hear what he said. "Oh yes, rabbits have very good hearing", Faline answered, and for her first and best guess, still classifying the yellow thing as something akin to a rabbit, since that was the closest thing like him that she knew.
Her word of mate seemed to confuse Héctor. Of course Faline knew nothing of twitterpated yet, just that she liked being around Bambi even now. The young fawn's ears perked and she listened as Héctor explained his own special someone. It was the sweetest, most wonderful, description too! She smiled softly.
"Aww, I'd love to meet her sometime", she also just loved how Héctor described her! How would Bambi describe her? Faline pushed this thought aside, and as Héctor went on to advise her to enjoy every moment she could with him.
"Oh I will!", Faline perked her ears up happily, before they and her face fell a bit, "I mean...when I get back...if. He's...back home right now...probably grew up and is the Great Prince already now...", she broke off thoughtfully. Though she hadn't aged in all her time here though, she realized...
Héctor now seemed a little sad for some reason, so Faline nudged him lightly.
Jake mentioned that he was fixing the place up and that reminded the fawn, "Oh yeah! And I was going to go get you twigs and things! I can go do that now", she offered, then glanced back over to Héctor, "Do you want to come help?", since he had seemed sad, maybe it would be just the thing to cheer him up! "Or you can just wait and I will be back", she was just giving options.
"Australia, right? I should've remembered that word; I have a friend who's Australian, and I have heard him say it a couple of times." That was kind of a dumb mistake to make.
Like that radio...
At the mention of a radio, Gadget wasn't the only one to show interest. But she was the most enthusiastic.
"Are you having trouble with your radio? 'Cause I might be able to fix it. Is it the tuner, maybe? Or the terminals? Is it AM or FM? Maybe it's a hardware problem. Do you have any spare parts? Did you know you can make a lot of spare parts from stuff you find in the trash?"
If there was something here that needed fixing, the day was beginning to look up for Gadget.

"Little Bear is also a "funny" nickname."
"Ah, c'mon, no lo tomes a mal (Don't take it in the wrong way), Reuben! Cool it. I didn't mean anything by it," Héctor shrugged nonchalantly, not meaning anything bad by that nickname and not really phased by Reuben being sore at him. It was a pet name given to people when they were being cute; if anything, it just meant that he looked cute, whatever animal he was. Unfortunately, he had a habit of just giving nicknames to everyone he liked, even if they didn't necessarily like him or were annoyed by him. He wasn't phased by people not liking him though; there used to be a long list of people that were annoyed by him, including his wife being angry at him, but he wasn't one to focus on that. He would continue being his happy-go-lucky self as much as he could. That was the only thing that kept him sane most times, though he did have his moments where he got down on himself.
The skeleton in the indigo vest smiled when Reuben let it go, and it was only then when he noticed Reuben finishing a sandwich and then getting another one."Hey, how many sandwiches you got in there?" He tried to peer curiously over to see how many he packed in there. Whatever type of sandwich Reuben was eating, it looked good! What were the chances that he would share them? He thought it best first to ask how many he had left first before he would ask.
"Aww, I'd love to meet her sometime",
The baby deer was so cute in wanting to meet his wife. "One day I'll present her to you, cariño," He promised with a nod and a pleasant smile, before that smile dissipated a little as soon as he heard her explain her worries about her prince growing up without her because she was here. It was then when he really understood that no one ages here, but he also understood that well given how old he looked in relation to how old he actually was. He then empathized with her longing about missing her prince, reflecting on the long separation of him waiting for Imelda for years. "Before I came here, I was still with my wife and my daughter.. but when I found myself in this place, my wife told me that she was here for several months.." He mused thoughtfully at the strangeness of time, though he understood it perhaps better that most have as soon as Imelda explained it to him just based on his experience in the land of the dead. "You will be back with your prince just as you left him, Fali.." He reassured her with a bright smile, not wanting her to dwell on the negative too much.
"You got a radio?" The centurian musician's eye sockets rose with a curious smile over at Jake. He only had record players when he was alive, but he had seen some of the modern technology playing with things called speakers and a DJ, but he had seen a radio playing, he just never knew how to work it or how it even worked without records! Suddenly, Gadget enthusiastically strung a slew of words that were beyond his comprehension, but he smiled impressively down at her at the enthusiasm and passion she had demonstrated for it. She really must know her stuff! It reminded him of how knowledgeable his wife was too in that way about shoes. If anyone presented any shoe problem to her, Imelda would break it down in such a similar way. Technology sounded complicated to understand though. It was a good thing Gadget was here to help Jake with that.
"Did you know you can make a lot of spare parts from stuff you find in the trash?"
That caught his interest! Being in the shanty town of the forgotten, Héctor knew all about that! "She's right, amiguito.. my cousin Chicharron and I.. we made a violin for our tío once. Chich liked to collect a lot of things, always saying that he was gonna use them later.. " He smiled at the thought of his old friend, who was his fake cousin. "So we got one of his wooden drawers and taped a furniture leg together, using some pieces of barbed wire for the strings..The D string was a little bit off but, eh, it was an instrument just to pass the time.." He shrugged with a small smile, deciding not to mention the fact that it was only to pass the time until they would eventually meet their Final Death. He wasn't sure what the Americans believed, so he wasn't going to get into that.
"Do you want to come help?"
Héctor listened as Faline offered to find some twigs and such to help out with Jake's home, then gave him the choice of him wanting to help or staying. Glancing back at the two mice, he decided to give them space to let their friendship blossom. He could always get a tour another time. "I'll go with you, Fali," Standing up, the tall skeleton nodded at the baby dear in agreement. "Do you want me to bring anything for your radio? I could look for a few scraps while I'm at it.." He offered to Gadget, wondering if she happened to have any tools or scraps in mind that would help with the radio that he could keep an eye out for while he accompanied Faline. Even if he was secretly a famous musician now, being surrounded by junk was nothing new for him.
So, Gadget did know of Australia. That was good. It meant he didn't have to explain himself all the time when it came to his home. So far, a lot of people didn't know of Australia, much to his annoyance. The kangaroo mouse smiled, "Ah! So you do know of Australia. Who was your friend, if I might ask?" Yes, Jake probably wouldn't know Gadget's friend. But he was still curious if they were any species that he knew of. And if they were from Gadget's world, or from some other place entirely. It was more of a conversation starter.
Upon mentioning the radio, nearly everyone turned their attention to him. All except Faline, who was eager to get started with gathering materials. Gadget listed down problems that the radio might have, and even mentioned that she could make anything out of junk. She reminded Jake of some of the mice from his world. Those mice went around and gathered things the humans left behind in order to re purpose them for mice use. The main HQ for the Rescue Aid Society, for instance, had working speakers that the mice used. And the mice at the listening post in Australia knew how to use morse code.
Regardless, Jake was now interested in what Gadget could do. He climbed onto the table the radio was on, and walked up to it. It was a basic radio, complete with a microphone. It was a tad more modern than the ride, but it still was made to look the part of something this 'Albert Awol' would of used. Jake tapped the side, and soon explained, "When I requested this room, I specifically requested that I had access to a radio like this. You see, back in Australia, I used to act as air control for any birds that were in the area. The last one I had to guide was an albatross. The guy thought he could land, despite the roof being too short."
He rolled his eyes and chuckled before he continued, "I intended to do the same here. Set up air traffic control, so I can keep tabs on any air activity in the parks. And perhaps set up a radio channel so I can keep cast members, guests, and special guests, like us, informed. The thing is, this one got damaged during transit. I think there might be some internal damage." To prove his point, he turned the nob to turn it on, and twisted some dials. But despite his efforts, it wouldn't turn on, "The cast members said they'd send someone down to check on it, but that would require ordering a new one entirely..."
"Oh I'm better than a rabbit. I have exceptional hearing." He said. The fawn was trying to figure out what he was by comparing him to the closest living creatures she'd met with. But she was still far from the truth. He hadn't been that offended by the nickname. "And I'm not a teddy bear either..." Sheesh, everyone seemed eager to compare him to woodland animals. "Tres" He replied, holding up three fingers with the hand not currently holding a sandwich.
Everyone, he noticed, including himself, had paid attention when Jake mentioned the radio. Hector, 'cause he was a musician, and gadget, 'cause she was a mechanic. He listened to Jake's explanation as he munched on his sandwich. He could offer to fixit, he was a skilled mechanic after all. But he didn't want to, and was glad when gadget mentioned she'd be willing to look at it. Otherwise he would've had to offer his services. "See ya'" He said in his Brooklyn accent, when Faline mentioned going to get supplies.
"Oh, right, sorry", Faline reminded herself that Reuben was not a rabbit. Though having good hearing, as he proved and said, didn't help her figure out another thing to classify him as.
Around the conversation about the radio, she watched as Gadget said she could fix up the radio thing. Both mice's familiarity and skill with the device was fascinating.
"One day I'll present her to you, cariño,"
Héctor promised as Faline said that his wife sounded great. Her ears perked and her tail almost wagged, that would be really great!
"You will be back with your prince just as you left him, Fali.."
Was Héctor's next promise, and Faline found she believed him in that too, and partly due to the way he had explained it about when he came and found time was all odd.
The fawn was glad Héctor agreed to go with her on her search! "Oh thank-you!", she said. "Good bye!", she then turned cheerily to Reuben even at his casual farewell, "I will try to be right back!", she promised everyone.
She then headed off, knowing Héctor, if not right behind her immediately, would catch up, and she had spent plenty of time wandering the parks on her own prior.
"My friend's name is Monterey Jack. Do you know him? Oh, I guess you can't know every mouse in Australia."
Moving right along...
my cousin Chicharron and I.. we made a violin for our tío once.
Gadget listened eagerly to the skeleton's description of his own invention.
"That sounds awesome! I don't know much about music or instruments, but I fixed a violin for a friend using stuff I found in the trash. He loved it! He even donated it to a charity that provides musical instruments to underprivileged kids." Gadget was pretty proud of that particular accomplishment.
Jake went on to describe his old job, which sounded really interesting.
"That sounds like a great idea. I have a plane, and I'd sure like to know that nobody's going to crash into me." Not that anything like that had happened here...
Jake then showed her the radio, which didn't seem to be working at all.
"I'd be happy to take a look at it," replied Gadget as she pulled a screwdriver from her coveralls. It took only a few seconds to take the back off and get a look at the works inside. "It looks like it might be your oscillator. Or maybe the amplifier. Oh. Maybe not."

Héctor grinned with interest upon hearing that Reuben had three sandwiches left. "You got three sandwiches in there?! Hey! You think you can save one of them for me? I always wanted to try an American sandwich!" The Mexican musician smiled, though he never assumed it would be free. "I can trade you something for it! What do you like to trade for it, eh?" Surely there was something that Reuben liked that he could maybe trade for a sandwich! He could find whatever it is that Reuben wanted and give it to him afterwards.
"That sounds awesome! I don't know much about music or instruments, but I fixed a violin for a friend using stuff I found in the trash. He loved it! He even donated it to a charity that provides musical instruments to underprivileged kids." "Oh, you must be really good at fixing things! And your friend was so generous! That was nice of your amigo to do that!" Héctor's smile grew to one of delight upon hearing such a wonderful thing. His heart always went out to the people who were underprivileged, or the forgotten in his case. He decided that he liked Gadget. A lot. He tossed his amiguito, Jake, an approving smile. Though the skeleton wasn't really into mice to be able to really say that she was an attractive mouse, he approved of her personality. She was intelligent and cared about other people; she was also passionate for learning. Those were traits that reminded him of his wife.
"There was once this mansion with a bunch of guitars. There were like.. mountains of guitars, you know? And after this.." Héctor parted his lips when he was going to say "rat" to describe the man that murdered him and then instantly shut his mouth with widened eyes when he glanced at Gadget and Jake for a moment, catching himself much like he did when it came to that perverted lyric in front of Miguel. There were animals present. "...bad person that once owned that mansion left, I gave it all away to something like a charity!" In other words, the land of the forgotten. Pfft. What else was the point of Ernesto having those mountains of guitars anyways? Using them just for show? There were plenty of people that would find value in actually putting them to some use! Mainly, the forgotten, who had nothing else to look forward to but enjoying the present, having fun, and listening to some good music before they go. Ernesto could hate him for it if he ever got out of that dumb bell, but he didn't care.
It didn't seem that they needed any kind of scraps or tools to fix the radio when he asked, but he wasn't phased for being ignored, he was used to that already. "Okay, amigos! We'll be back" He said exclaimed brightly and began walking out with Faline to get supplies. Maybe he could find masking tape while he would be out. Masking tape was always useful.
"So, how long have you been here in this world, Fali?" Héctor asked Faline to make conversation as they walked together alone in search of supplies. "I'm still getting used to different animals being so comfortable around people, you know? ..Not like dogs or cats, but..eh..you know.." He smiled sheepishly, not sure if Faline was understanding what he was trying to say. Was it a bad thing to say wild animals? Was that insulting? He wasn't sure. He was trying to be respectful as possible, but there were no rules on how to conduct yourself in a gentlemanly way around animals. They were used to having Pepita around the house, but even other alebrijes steered clear of you unless it was yours and you needed guidance. Back in Mexico, not even the wild animals ever got this close to people before. "Your family..they are comfortable with being around people as well?" Héctor hoped he wasn't asking too many questions, but he was just trying to get the jist of talking animals and how comfortable they were in interacting with humans. Perhaps back in Faline's world, they were much more receptive to humans?
<<Since she's basically exited anyway just completing out that>>
It was already apparent, after a few used of it, that in addition to his special name that meant sweet, Héctor calling her Fali as another sort of nickname! It was nice! She liked it.
"So, how long have you been here in this world, Fali?"
She thought on the question. "Um...three winters!", she answered, in one of the seasons she most noticed pass; though she noticed all of them. "That's why I say if Bambi grew up in that time he might not even know who I am if I showed back up! But, if he's still a fawn, like when I felt, maybe he will remember me".
And her mother.
"Well, he's not a fawn, he was just getting his antlers when I left", Faline gave a small smile and didn't say how cute and handsome they made him look.
Faline thought she knew what Héctor meant on getting used to animals. "Oh sure!", she answered.
"Your family..they are comfortable with being around people as well?"
"Oh no", Faline shook her head, "Mom and I would always hide when she said Man was in the forest; and when I first came I still did, it...took a while to realize that...well...Men here are different and don't have the sticks they do back in the forest", and not that she understood it fully even.
"Oh! There's a very good stick!", speaking of the other kind, Faline walked over to pick up one any bird would use in a nest or such, "Here, will you please hold that...", she handed it to Héctor, then walked over to where she saw another one.
Gadget mentioned a mouse by the name of Monterery Jack, which did sound very much like an Australian name. Jake only shrugged, "Can't say I have. Different worlds and all." He replied to her. He turned his attention to Héctor when he mentioned the violins, in which he added, "Aye. Music is good for anyone. People need a hobby at times, am I right?"
Though what Gadget mentioned next, threw him off. "Hold on a second. You...have a plane?" He asked her, "An actual plane? One with a propeller, a rudder, and wing flaps? A working one?" He was more than impressed. If she did have one, that meant this shiela had more technological engineering knowledge than most mice he knew of. And that was saying something! The most the mice did was reverse engineer something that the humans had. But, an actual vehicle? They were stuck to using birds for transportation for a reason.
He was so distracted, that he didn't notice Gadget looking at the radio. He blinked a few times, and cleared his throat, "W-well we might need to open it up and see if anything is loose. Like I said, I think it got damaged during transport."
Jake then grinned as Hector told them that he and Faline would be back shortly. The kangaroo mouse gave a bow of his hat, "Alright Héctor. And when you get back, I promise I will give you that tour. Probably start off here with a quick boat ride." He smiled. Jake admitted that he didn't have a chance to get on one of those boats. Though, now that he was here, he should take that opportunity.
"You got three sandwiches in there?! Hey! You think you can save one of them for me? I always wanted to try an American sandwich!"
"I can trade you something for it! What do you like to trade for it, eh?"
"Which one do ya want? Sandwich con queso? PBJ? Or the tuna salad?" He had planned to ask for dinero, but thought of something he wanted even more. "And in return, there is a dish from your homeland, the burrito. I would like one of those. I don't care what you put in it, but I would like it to be handmade by either you or your wife, whoever is the better cook." While his food of choice was the sandwich, Reuben wasn't averse to eating foods that were similar, like the rice ball or a burrito. Food wrapped in a tortilla wasn't too different to food sitting snugly between two slices of bread.
"Oh, right, sorry"
"No Problem" He replied, before taking another bite of his 'wich.
"You will be back with your prince just as you left him, Fali.."
But after how long?
He waved her off with his free hand. As for the conversation he was eavesdropping on, he listened with interest when Hector mentioned his makeshift violin. He'd done roughly the same with Gantu's ship. He'd even had to use pickle juice to help get it working. He swallowed his bite.
I have a plane
"And where'd you get it? Toys 'R Us? Obviously from before they closed up."
"Aye. Music is good for anyone. People need a hobby at times, am I right?"
"Yea, everybody needs something to do after putting up with work."

(I'm horrible for delaying threads. I'm so sorry D:)
"Aye. Music is good for anyone. People need a hobby at times, am I right?"
"That is right, amiguito!" The musician nodded with a smile. Even though his music was more of what Héctor was now famous for, it was now just a hobby for him. He only wanted to perform with family and nothing beyond that anymore. He was careful not to make that same mistake again.
"Which one do ya want? Sandwich con queso? PBJ? Or the tuna salad?"
Héctor brightened up considerably when Reuben agreed to give him a sandwich and contemplated on the options. "I want the..PBJ!" That sounded like the MOST American thing he had ever heard! He didn't even know what it even translated to, but he wanted to try it! Perhaps he should err to the side of not knowing and probably should ask instead of just eating something he doesn't know what's in it - especially considering that it was the very thing that got him killed..but eh, he was already dead. That was only a worry for the living.
"And in return, there is a dish from your homeland, the burrito. I would like one of those. I don't care what you put in it, but I would like it to be handmade by either you or your wife, whoever is the better cook."
This Reuben was very clever to make sure that whatever the trade was, that it was a good one given that he specifically requested it to be made from the better cook. The former con-artist noted that this one was used to making lots of deals and trades before. "Okay! Fine. I could get you one that my wife makes! She's so good at making burritos!" He could either convince Imelda or just.. borrow an extra one when she'd make it and deliver it to Reuben. Ah, he'd figure it out.
Héctor smiled at the two mice enthralled with the conversation about airplanes and then talking about the radio again. They looked so cute. "Yes! Look for me as soon as you're ready, amiguito!" He replied to the mouse with a grin, still wanting him to know that he was interested in that tour. He decided it was best to give his amiguito some space with that girl though. It's not like he was that hard to find either. He was sure the adventurous mouse could find him easily enough.
With another wave of goodbyes, Héctor set off with Faline to find some twigs and other things that Jake might need for his home.
As he spoke with Faline while they searched for twigs, the skeletal musician's eye sockets widened upon hearing that she had been here for 3 winters. That was... a ver.. 3 years! Aww 3 years without family! Although that was nothing in comparison to how long Héctor waited, those 3 years were indeed just as agonizing. Héctor paused when Faline said the next thing that suddenly felt so familiar to him regarding her words about her Bambi growing up without her and forgetting her. It caused him to flicker his eyes over at her with a tilt of his eyesockets just hearing her say the same words that he used to think about: What if Coco grew up and forgot about me?
"I know that worry.." The centennial skeleton spoke gently with a nod of understanding, a tiny frown on the ends of his smile as he recalled as much. "It happened to me, cariño.." He added softly, "with my daughter.." The guilt that Héctor felt at that moment for causing all that to happen suddenly appeared on his sullen expression briefly, before he brightened up into a smile again just appreciating that it didn't happen after all. "But that is not the case, Fali; because when I first got here, I was with Imelda and Coco, and it was like they never left!" Héctor reassured her with a cheerful grin. That was what the paternal skeleton tried to tell himself anyways. He wanted to believe that Coco didn't think he abandoned her again. Just for his sanity, though a part of him dreaded to think it was true. "Even if it was the case, I have seen the impossible happen when it comes to memory! I know you will find a way to help him to remember!" The skeleton reassured further with a bright smile. Miguelito did it after all, getting Coco to remember him, and not even the cynical skeleton couldn't deny that anything was possible.
At first Héctor's words further worried Faline! His daughter had forgotten him? Faline, as a deer fawn, knew nothing of her own father, but understood that Men did. That was like...well like her other worry and her mother forgetting her too!
The way Héctor said it, it seemed like he would say it was his fault somehow, though he didn't go on to elaborate, and Faline didn't ask after such a personal sounding story.
Plus Héctor went on to alleviate any fears he sprouted up, or made worse.
"Even if it was the case, I have seen the impossible happen when it comes to memory! I know you will find a way to help him to remember!"
Faline smiled, "Thanks, Héctor, and...yeah I could do that", she already pondered up a few ways. She could chase him around a pond again...though she felt a bit old for that now."I hope you're right!", but the way she said, she still had hope he was.
Faline and gone and fetched twigs all through listening and talking, and now glanced over the pile Héctor had in his hands, since she couldn't really carry many having to hold them in her mouth to even move them and so pausing in her talking or fetching to do one or the other. It seemed a good enough pile for a mouse, she thought over the mouse holes and other dwellings she'd seen back home.
"That should do!", she said and followed Héctor back over to deliver the twigs. "Here ya go Jake! I hope that does, just let me know if you need any more!". Faline had no way, yet, of knowing she wouldn't be around the parks long enough to receive any further twig requests. She then bid Jake, Gadget and Reuben farewell in blissful ignorance that she would see them again before she and Héctor made their exit to go see his family like he promised!
<<and I guess that'll be Faline's actual exit <3>>
