Jake frowned as Varian explained his tail. The kid had it rough, there was no questioning it. To have your parent sacrifice themselves in order to save your life... And to be denied help by someone you trusted... It was a lot. Varian was still young, and there was no doubt that he still had pent up emotions that wanted to get out, with no way to control them. Coupled with the fact that he was thrown in prison as a result of his actions.. and you got the possible origins of a villain. In other words: Not good.
Jake sighed and shook his head, "Look mate, if your father was here, he would tell you not to give up. I don't know why he would lie about the rocks, but might of had a good reason. As for you lashing out at others... you are still young. You've been through a lot, and I am sure that you are thinking of everything in order to save your father. Even if some of those thoughts are dark," He then smiled a bit, "But you aren't alone. You met Reuben, and he was able to help you out. And lets not forget the possibility that you might meet someone who might just give you the help you need to get back home. We might be stuck here, but we are not helpless. As for your father? He might still be alive, if that amber is freezing him in place."
Of course, his guess was based around some of the shows he watched with his parents. He recalled them taking a spot by the window of a house, and watching whatever movie that the humans were watching. Occasionally, there was someone who were frozen, and when released, they were still alive, despite the amount of time that passed. It might be a similar case, especially if magic was involved. Elsa probably knew a thing or two about that, though there might be a special guest who knew more.
However, before he could explain his theory, he heard some shouting. Which meant security was coming to investigate the explosion. Jake frowned and let out a sight, "Normally I'd try to explain things to them, but it might be a good idea to leave. Especially since they offered a reward to anyone who could solve the problem involving a 'ghost and a portal'."
