Character basics
Character name: Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi
Age: 21
Species: human
Birthplace: San Francisco
Movie: Princess Diaries, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
Custom title: An American Royal
Why: she’s me—in a Disney movie, and as a princess/queen. Archery, rock-wall climbing, horse-back riding, etc. I think Mia will be an absolute blast to write.
Who's the fairest of them all?
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Mia’s hair used to be bushy beyond belief. She left it down, rarely brushing it, not bothering to touch it at all, really. Paolo worked wonders, making her hair shiny and sleek, but most of all it was manageable. Her hair is now fantastically easy to style, and she’ll never forget her rougher days.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Mia is a fairly expressive royal, and it stems from her days as a standard American teenager. She does tend to be dramatic, however, in her expressions, often mocking her grandmother with an exaggerated expression.
Clothing style: Mia prefers the comfortable clothes of a civilian, though she is not adverse to wearing the ornate ball gowns that come with being princess. She grew to enjoy wearing a tiara, though.
Body build: Mia is strong for a young woman of 21, but not deceptively so. Her strength comes from climbing rock walls and riding horses, and you wouldn’t find her lifting weights.

Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality: Mia is clumsy, but she is pretty good at laughing it off. She can be overly-dramatic, but she often does it for the laughs. She had confidence issues before speaking in front of the press at the Ball, but that speech helped her grow as a person and a princess. She’s fairly stubborn, firmly set in her beliefs, but she has a heart of gold. She is slow to anger, but she can be vindictive when she gets there.
History: Mia grew up without her father. It was just her and her mother, with a card and gift from her father every year on her birthday. While Mia longed to know her father, his distance made her more responsible. She helped her mother keep track of the bills, as well as her deadlines for her artistry.
But everything changed when her father died.
Well, not really. But two months after her father died, things did change. Her grandmother, Clarisse Renaldi, contacted her with a request to meet for tea. Mia agreed rather reluctantly, and upon her arrival, Grandma dropped a bombshell: Mia was a princess. Her father had been a prince. And Clarisse herself was a queen.
Things moved quickly for the then-15-year-old. Princess lessons progressed—in secret from Mia’s few friends. When her friendship with Lilly was on the rocks, due to Mia’s new hair style and general appearance, Mia spilled her secret. Shortly after, the world found out when the hairdresser broke his contract and gave an interview to the newspaper.
From there, time moved faster. By the time the Genovian Independence Day Ball arrived, Mia was fed up with her princess-ship, and more than ready to flee, rather than announce her abdication of the throne. It took a letter from her father for her to realize that running away was not the answer. Being a princess would also allow her to help others, a point made by Lilly. After all, that was something she and Lilly did a lot of: protests, fundraisers... It was a last-minute turn-around, but now that she’d made the decision, Mia wanted to stick with it.
Luck was on her side as Joe—Grandma’s head of security and Mia’s chauffer—arrived. Mia accepted the ride to the ball and made an impromptu speech to the gathered press. To applause, Mia officially accepted her role as princess of Genovia.
Several years later, after Mia had graduated high school and attended an elite college, she arrived in Genovia, expecting to be crowned in a few months. Parliament threw a wrench in the plan, announcing that she needed a king to sit by her side.
Mia settled on one Andrew Jacob, Duke of Kenilworth. Their relationship moved along quickly, as Parliament had given Mia 30 days to marry or the crown would go to another: Nicholas Devereaux. Mia unexpectedly found herself falling for Nicholas, which would only cause problems for her and Andrew.
She still sought time with Nicholas, asking Lilly to distract Andrew so she and Nicholas could talk, sneaking off with Nicholas in the middle of the night... A cameraman filming Mia with Nicholas one early morning led Mia to swearing off him, thinking he had set it up to make her look bad.
Even though she and Andrew knew they didn’t love one another, they were still determined to go through with the wedding. It was the only way for Mia to take her place as ruler, and Andrew felt a deep sense of duty in the matter.
At the last possible second, Mia broke off the wedding. Andrew was grateful to not be stuck in a loveless marriage, and Mia felt relief at not having that pressure on her. She appealed to the Prime Minister for a change in the law, and it was granted.
Mia was crowned shortly thereafter, as a single woman. (Grandma had gotten married to Joe, in a happy twist of events.)
