Reuben had a lot of arguments against the theory that it was all this Walt's fault, and even then Andrina had just been spouting one of the theories she'd heard when people tried to figure it out; it wasn't hers. Still, if she tried, she could find arguments to defend it.
It was amazing what people with magic on their sides could do! Of course she was thinking of Ursula.
"Now Walt I can see bringin' us here...I mean they're his parks after all...but a sea witch. Obviously she'd want ta bring all of us to the ocean floor, and make it so we could breath and withstand the pressure too."
"Yeah, actually that does sound more her style", Andrina admitted. Well, people had been trying to crack this for a while, it didn't concern the mermaid princess too much if they couldn't find the actual answer here and now.
"Oh, sorry, I gotta stop doing that and just mentioning one of my sister's like you'd know. No, that's one of the older one's, Adella; though Ariel's doing alright, adjusting to being here, all that". Or near as Andrina could judge she was.
As she got into the boat, she had to laugh at Reuben thinking she was also trying to get her way around giving him a sandwich now. "Nah, I know".
Andrina agreed with him. Well, seeing as she and Ursula were from the same world, of course she'd know more about the sea witch than he would.
"Oh, sorry, I gotta stop doing that and just mentioning one of my sister's like you'd know. No, that's one of the older one's, Adella; though Ariel's doing alright, adjusting to being here, all that"
"Ariel, a redhead right? I've seen pictures of her around the park. Hopefully if she saw that merchandise, it wouldn't go to her head." Once she was in the boat, he scanned around for the lights of any nearby boats. All clear. He gunned the motor and the boat slipped through the water towards the inviting light of the docks. Once they were away from the island he relaxed a little. Now that he considered it, sneakin' back and forth to the abandoned island would be a chore, and for what? The insides of the buildings were dirty and gross, and he didn't want to do any cleanin'. No, he'd have ta settle for findin' somewhere else within the confines of his prison.
Andrina nodded as Reuben said he'd seen pictures of Ariel around. She had too, plenty over her whole two years here, and the stunned novelty and confusion of it had worn off, though she'd had fun explaining Ariel's "celebrity" to her when she later arrived too. Ariel's youngest of her older sisters had always just chalked it up to her being the one of them to enter the human world, but even then, it was pretty wide-spread among this place she also noticed.
And she was not unknown, just always got "oh yeah, Ariel's sister!". One could be known by worse.
"...Hopefully if she saw that merchandise, it wouldn't go to her head."
Andrian laughed, "Yeah, I already tried explaining it, but I think in the end she's just gonna have to see exactly how many pictures are up of her to really get it!". She took in that he knew how to run a boat, like that might give her a clue to what he was, even though she'd stopped trying to guess and he was just going to tell her.
Adriana laughed when he mentioned it goin' to her sister's head. She went on to say that no, it hadn't. The boat sped in quiet fashion towards the dock. Reuben found an empty spot, and guided the boat inside. He switched off the motor, moored the boat, and ascended onto the cement pathway. He checked his phone while waiting for his companion to get out of the boat as well. P&J's Southern Takeout was still open for about an hour and it was only about a 5 minute walk from where he'd parked the boat. He could get a sandwich there. "Ever been ta P&J's Southern Takeout?" He asked, introducing his chosen spot to Adriana, in case she might already be familiar with the place.
Boats were still interesting vessels to take in, even with all of her time here above land and investigating Human Stuff, as Ariel and that seagull, Skuttle, called it. Personally, Andrina thought Skuttle was missing a bit of coral to make a whole shelf, but even she knew not to tell him this, and how rude it would have been.
"Ever been ta P&J's Southern Takeout?"
Reuben asked, no doubt his chosen spot. Andriana thought for a bit, then shook her head. "No, strange I know, to be here two years and not get to all the places to see, but...well the place is also massive", she smiled.
That and, like anyone tended to do, Andrina fell into a sort of rut of only exploring when something seemed interesting enough about the situation, or place, to warrant it. Aimless wandering such as the tourists did aside, Ariel would no doubt have seen the whole place by now...
"I'm curious to see it!", she went on with a smile.
"It's only a short walk from here." He replied, already heading towards P&J's. She hadn't been there, even after two years. He didn't blame her. "Have ya eaten at The Earl of Sandwich?" He might as well ask, since he worked there. Though if she had recently, it wasn't during one of his shifts. Otherwise she'd have recognized him. It might be easy to forget a human face, but he didn't exactly count as human. Even this late at night, the place was still bustling. Reuben briefly examined the contents of the curved display case, before getting in line to approach the teal order counter. "Are you plannin' ta get somethin too?" He asked Andrina. "I was gonna get the Fort Wilderness Garden Burger and a soda."
Andrina could probably guess the reason he asked, though not really, and she had no proof he was affiliated or worked there, still it might be enough to make her put it on the list and now make a point to visit, if just to see if she was correct. For the moment she just shook her head. "Nope, just the one. Why? Would you rank that one better?", she had to ask, not in thinking he picked a lesser one, just curious.
Plus sandwiches seemed his thing, so he probably had a ranking system. Andrina also took in how busy it was even at night.
"Are you plannin' ta get somethin too? I was gonna get the Fort Wilderness Garden Burger and a soda."
She didn't ask if he was going with the veggie option to play it safe with her, though in perhaps being completely unfair, ham and land animals didn't bother her, though she told herself maybe they should now, after meeting Moana and her friends and such. "My only steer-clear is anything with fish, but...I may try a few other land veggies besides cucumbers this time", she decided. While they were there, why not?
"Nope, just the one. Why? Would you rank that one better?"
"Well, since I enjoy working there, I suppose I should." And considerin' his sandwich preparin' skills, he should. Though he didn't tell her this so he wouldn't come across as a narcissist. He'd only admit this if he had sandwich ingredients or others who could vouch for his talent.
"My only steer-clear is anything with fish, but...I may try a few other land veggies besides cucumbers this time"
Anyone who didn't know she was a mermaid might assume she just wasn't a fan of seafood, but he knew better. Coexistin' with fish was definitely gonna make eatin' them awkward. "Well that removes seafood as an option. Are you gonna get a salad? Plenty of vegetables." He moved forward a spot in the queue. "Have ya ever tried a tomato? It's delicious, goes great with a lot of food. Especially as an ingredient in ketchup."
"Well, since I enjoy working there, I suppose I should."
"Good point", Andrina chuckled. She did put the sandwich shop on her list of places she should visit now, just to see how his sandwiches compared, but...wasn't sure when she'd put this plan into motion and didn't mention that she even planned to, though he was probably prepared for the chance of it now that he had mentioned his place.
"Well that removes seafood as an option. Are you gonna get a salad? Plenty of vegetables."
"Yeah...", Andrina just shook her head at the first. For some reason she always imagined Sebastian's freaking out response to even the thought, probably because of that story of horrors he now told like a war tale from his time on land while helping Ariel.
Salad was still on the options list. "Yeah I'll make my way through the land vegetables".
"Have ya ever tried a tomato? It's delicious, goes great with a lot of food. Especially as an ingredient in ketchup."
"Oh! Well, I've had ketchup plenty of times in my time here, but...if that doesn't count, I guess not. I'll try an actual tomato". And if she thought it was worth it, she would take some back to Ariel, or the other half of whatever she got.
"Well I'll keep an eye out for ya."[/b] He said. Though he wouldn't hold it against her if she never showed up. Sandwiches might be the focal point of his life, but that didn't mean they enticed everyone. "And I know you're not a big fan of seafood, but what about land meats?" He got in line, and waited to see if she would join him, although she might need more time to figure out what she wanted. Despite it being this late at night, there were still five people ahead of him. All he could think about was the garden burger he'd be enjoying very soon. "If you were gonna get a sandwich, which one would you prefer?" He might as well bring the subject up. After all, sandwiches were his favorite topic of conversation.
Her plan to perhaps visit was pretty see-through, but Reuben also didn't hold her to anything. Andrina smirked, and felt she could go ahead and answer safely that she would be coming by, but if he was also ok letting her not answer that, maybe she should take to it and keep whether or not she visited a surprise.
"And I know you're not a big fan of seafood, but what about land meats?"
Andrina thought over that. "Well...there's no personal, I might know them issue there...", she admitted. "Still maybe I'll stick to the cucumbers and such, pretty familiar with them, not the land cucumbers again, but our Atlantican chefs have managed to get pretty creative with seaweed". She knew it probably didn't sound like it was possible; but it was.
"If you were gonna get a sandwich, which one would you prefer?"
Deciding on a land veggie sandwich, she joined him in line. "Oh I'll try most anything", she admitted, but that hadn't been the question. "Still, it would be hard to pull off on land, perhaps, but probably what I experimentally made that one time when I took everything left over from the table and put it on bread. I don't know that I could recreate it though".
A woman at the front of the line made her order, paid, and moved to another part of the counter to pick up her food. Now there were only four ahead of him.
"Well...there's no personal, I might know them issue there..."
"Still maybe I'll stick to the cucumbers and such, pretty familiar with them, not the land cucumbers again, but our Atlantican chefs have managed to get pretty creative with seaweed"
Despite not having to deal with the stigma of possibly having known what she was about to eat, Andrina still stuck with veggie options, specifically sea cucumbers and seaweed. "Including a sandwich?" She ultimately joined him in the queue. Unfortunately, the man at the head was still taking his time placing his order.
"Oh I'll try most anything"
"Still, it would be hard to pull off on land, perhaps, but probably what I experimentally made that one time when I took everything left over from the table and put it on bread. I don't know that I could recreate it though".
She ultimately didn't have a favorite, at least not one that had a name. Reuben's curiosity was piqued. A sandwich he had never tried before. Already his mind was running faster than a supercomputer. It rarely did so, as he wasn't one to really want to do anything. But when it came to sandwiches. "Are there any ingredients you can remember?" He asked, the excitement evident in his voice.
Andrina thought on the question a bit. Just bread made a sandwich right? She should perhaps ask after this qualification before she could really know her answer, but, per her story, they'd had seaweed bread so...
"Mmm...yeah, I guess the chefs also made sandwiches, cooking for a king and seven princesses he tended to go all out but there were...dainty little triangle things a time or two".
"Are there any ingredients you can remember?"
Even with not knowing him before today, Andrina caught the change in tone as she told of her own explorations and experimentation and he asked this. She blinked stunned, then smiled, but didn't comment on the level of interest and thought back. "Let's see...there were of course sea-cucumbers, some sort of paste from the table, uh like jam or jelly here I guess...some of the salad, which is what we call assorted greens too, and...I think I even put one of the cakes from the cake stand in the middle, like I said I wasn't going for an actual sandwich".
"Mmm...yeah, I guess the chefs also made sandwiches, cooking for a king and seven princesses he tended to go all out but there were...dainty little triangle things a time or two".
Reuben reflexively licked his lips with his purple tongue. "Mmmm finger sandwiches...I gotta try them one day. Do ya still make food out of seaweed?" The guy at the head of the line had finally finished his order. One down, three to go. Though he wasn't too eager to get his sandwich. Actually, no...he was eager...he was always eager to eat a well-prepared sandwich, just not so eager that he was impatient to reach the counter. Right now he was more interested in eating one of those undersea seaweed sandwiches, or whatever sandwich Andrina had concocted. He listened with intense interest as she listed, or at least attempted to list the ingredients.
"Anythin' else?" He asked. Sure it was startin' to sound like a really weird sandwich to him, but it was a sandwich nonetheless, and he still wanted to try it.
Reuben knew what she was describing. Seemed to be a veritable Encyclopedia on Sandwiches. Andrian smirked to herself, still amused by that fact."Well I'll see if I can remember those too, probably will be easier since they made reappearances, and were simpler than my...Everything On the Table Sandwich". She glanced back to Reuben, thinking, "Not many land creatures like seaweed, though, I've found so...don't be too disappointed if you don't like it; and I won't be offended. On either of them", she grinned.
He didn't seem too picky with his sandwiches, though, since even as she listed the assortment of odd that had gone into hers, he was still with her and still listening with that same interested look. Andrina laughed, "You know you're probably also the coolest land...whatever you are I've met if this doesn't scare you off yet. Of course hearing about it and eating it are two different things, and yes, I did eat it after I made it and even if my sister Adella said it was weird".
She thought some more, "No but that was it, lots of salad, cake and jam", she concluded after thinking through the contents of the table that day.
"Not many land creatures like seaweed, though, I've found so...don't be too disappointed if you don't like it; and I won't be offended. On either of them"
"Eh, I've had seaweed before, on rice balls, so I've got nothin' against it." He replied with a shrug.
""You know you're probably also the coolest land...whatever you are I've met if this doesn't scare you off yet."
"As for the other sandwich, sure it's probably the Frankenstein's monster of sandwiches, but I already know what I'm gettin' into by tryin' it. I'll be fine." After all, he was built to withstand much, much worse. And anyways, the sandwich didn't sound too weird...except for the addition of the cake, though cake itself was always delicious anyways so he wasn't worried. The woman at the front of the cue had finished her order, bringin' it down to two ahead of him. There apparently weren't any more ingredients to add, at least none that she could remember. He listed them off, in the off chance that she remembered another ingredient. "So, sea cucumbers, jam, salad, and cake...what kinda cake?"
"Eh, I've had seaweed before, on rice balls, so I've got nothin' against it."
Andrina just nodded. She was a bit afraid to ask any more questions, like if these rice balls crossed the line into sushi as she'd heard about, but the fact that humans and other land dwellers could stand seaweed, enough that chefs besides Reuben made it, was semi-encouraging in a way.
"So, sea cucumbers, jam, salad, and cake...what kinda cake?"
"Uh, white cake, with white icing", Andrina replied, thinking back, and as she also watched the line, but not impatiently. Again, their chef had been going for a fancy spread with fancy foods. Part of what had tempted the second youngest princess to experiment with the left-overs, not in trying to insult him, but in the looks she knew her sisters would get on their faces, especially Alana, who was so particular, and true to form, she'd grimaced a whole lot, though so had a few others.
"It's vanilla, right?" He asked, It had to be vanilla. Although she might not know what it tasted like. Though she had been on land for some time. Another customer had finally ordered their food, leaving just one more ahead of them. "So whaddya do for a livin?" He asked. "Lemme guess...definitely not somethin involved with the preparation or servin' of seafood." Unless she didn't need ta work. Maybe she was already provided for. She was royalty, after all. Well...the second to last in line to be queen. The last customer in line before them had also finished their order. "Ladies first...unless there isn't anythin' ya want?" He just hoped she didn't take too long placin' her order. He was still hungry after all.
Reuben really was determined to try out this sandwich of hers; he was clarifying that the cake she meant was Vanilla. Andrina gave it some thought. The answer seemed easy except...
"Yes...I believe it was...", the princess answered, "But...some kind of cake that survives under water of course". She wasn't sure if that would affect the taste of such or not, if he used normal vanilla and she had used the type Atlantica had.
She next smiled, though, "Tell you what, if you want to be safe and make exactly what I did I'll bake you some Atlantican vanilla cake for experimenting with! I can't promise I'm the best baker ever, but I'm better than my sister so...unfortunately the best you have, for autheticity anyway", she shrugged with a smirk.
"Or stick with regular vanilla up here, won't hurt my feelings and up to you"
It was now their turn, and Reuben let her go first, to be polite, he said, though her being a princess could also have had a bit to do with it. Fortunately she knew what she wanted though. "Just an all veggie sandwich, please".
"Including the Jalapenos?", the clerk clarified. Andrina knew why he asked, they were apparently a polarizing kind of spicy.
"Sure, I'm adventurous", she grinned. After next choosing a unique herb type bread he presented as an option, she walked forward and let Reuben place his order. Though he'd sort of invited her along, Andrina intended to get her own of course and rummaged in her shorts pockets (one thing she liked about land clothes) for what she had.
Right on the first try. Of course it had ta be cake durable enough to last undersea. He'd made the mistake of assumin' she'd still been above ground when she'd eaten her little creation. Although she'd made things easy by offerin' to bake him the cake. Though he hadn't had a taste of her cookin' already so he didn't know if what she'd end up with was...edible. Though if she did screw up he could ask for the recipe. Hopefully it wasn't gonna come to that. Even she wasn't sure of her bakin' skills, suggestin' the land version instead, but he refused. "Nah, I'd prefer the authenticity, as long as I can stomach it." She made her order, a veggie sandwich (good choice), includin' the jalapenos. He wondered if she'd eatin' anything hotter. Once she'd made her order, he made his. He decided to stick with gettin' the Fort Wilderness Garden Burger. Once it was made, he started lookin' for a table, either one that was available or already selected by Andrina.
Reuben wanted to get this creation of hers as close to accurate as he could. There was something admirable in that, even if Andrina might have questioned the sanity of it. She didn't always know what she was doing half the time. more than that actually.
She laughed as he said "if he could stomach it".
"An important factor to consider", she agreed and before making her own order. Even at the looks from some of the others in line behind them (some shocked and some impressed) she didn't doubt her choice of the jalapenos. It would be an adventure, and she liked those, whether exploring with dolphins or trying adventurous Human World Sandwiches.
Maybe that was why she respected Reuben's similar attitude with her sandwich so much.
Since the deal was for her to pay and get Reuben a sandwich for information, she gave over enough for both of their sandwiches even as she left him to order and picked a table. Scanning, she found one, and waved him over when he was done. She noticed he got veggie also, and wondered if it was on account of her. She wouldn't ask anyone to do such but it was nice if he was being considerate, though sandwich meats at least didn't look like anyone, so they weren't bothersome.
She let them both eat a few bites before going on again. "Ok, so you can give information bit by bit and I can still try to guess, or you can just tell me outright what ya are", she grinned.
