<<Using Pepita moving here and in Mateo's post>>
By the end of it all, Mateo was not going to be one bit surprised. But during...well even then he wasn't.
It was just a small idea, a curiosity, for while the span of Dia de los Muertos still lasted. The young wizard had forgone attending the Halloween party, not for any cultural reasons, just because he was too busy, and once this idea lodged in his head it wouldn't leave. Mateo had his grandfather's notebook for reference, but not the Codex Maru, not that he needed it.
Summoning his spirit-guide, or his grandfather's Chanul, Zuzo was simple enough, but every time Mateo had tried it here it had of course not worked. And yes, in a way, it had been his own magical looking for a loophole through the barrier and their situation here. But one thing had not occurred to the young wizard the last time he tried, in just a testing and not even expecting it to work shortly after arriving, what if late October and early November held some...power or influence.
Dia de los Muertos! He had always known about it, and how the spirit barrier was said to be looser, or to allow for ancestral visits, but it wasn't until meeting Héctor that the idea had occurred...what if...
It was too good an opportunity to pass up! Mateo didn't expect to find a way home, or anything quite so grand, out of his own magical experiment, but summoning Zuzo and talking for a bit would be a success! Like the first time it had worked, with Princess Sofia there!
It was while he was preparing that he heard the slight mew, and glancing over spotted the Rivera's cat, Pepita, watching him curiously. "Oh, hey", Mateo bent and pet her, the cat leaning into his touch, "Did you come to watch me probably fail?", the young wizard asked rhetorically with a smile.
After letting him pet her a bit, Pepita moved over to a nearby bench and lounged on it, seemingly to watch.
"Ok, now be nice to Zuzo if this actually works...", Mateo told the cat with another smile. Though as a Chanul, Zuzo would be unable to be touched by the cat's claws or bothering.
Mateo only read over the spell again to ensure he knew what he knew he already knew...
He then snapped the book shut, put it back in a fold of his robes, and setting his Tamborita in one hand, he prepared and stared at the space of the back garden of the Resort he planned to try this in. Currently empty but for Pepita.
Mateo took in a breath. "Iluminara Alacazar Wayohel!", he said, and rapped his Tamborita. The magic dispersed out, but then dissipated and nothing happened. Mateo sighed. He'd sort of known. He had to be back home, the magic couldn't reach that far in a sense. He crossed his arms, staring at the space, then side glanced over to the bench and Pepita.
Héctor had mentioned she was his spirit guide or something...
Mateo bent down and gestured to Pepita similarly to how Héctor had that first day they'd met. "Hey...Pepita, here girl...", he made a clicking sound, and hoped it wasn't offensive to cats. "Can I get your help with something?".
The cat studied him a bit, then lazily got up and walked over.
"Yes! Gracias", Mateo smiled to her, "Now just stand over there", he indicated to the spot of pavement and waited as Pepita moved over there, "Now, this won't hurt you if it doesn't work, it will just not work", Mateo explained like the cat could understand, and he felt she could.
He paused as he thought over the spell again, "Uh...Héctor was your person? Or was it Miss Imelda?", he glanced to Pepita as if she could answer then decided to just go for it, "Probably either...but we'll try it with her name just to be safe".
"Iluminara Imelda Wayohel!", Mateo said the spell, supplementing the name, and the magical waves extended towards and surrounded the gray cat. If Mateo had known the conversion rate, in a sense, and what Héctor meant by their Spirit Guides, he probably wouldn't have tried it. He expected a not too big, blue, transparent cat, maybe.
That...was not what he got...
Pepita was now as tall as a house, maybe taller, multicolored, with horns and teeth and...
In a good sense, the spell worked! In another...oh boy.
"Pepita!", Mateo blinked at the large, multicolored Alebrije before him!
For her part, Pepita lifted her paws, and seemed to examine her form once more, then stretched safely, but for nudging a tree.
Mateo walked a circle, muttering to himself. "Oh no...well maybe the magic wears off after Dia de los Muertos? But...even a few or one day of this!".
He needed either Héctor or Imelda...and as the youth thought about it, he of course decided on telling Héctor first.
He turned back to the giant cat, "Ok...Pepita...stay there....I...I'm gonna go get...", Mateo didn't even get the chance to finish his statement, or turn to go back to the hotel and knock on the Rivera's door and see who was about. Pepita walked forward and bent down, as if motioning for him to get on.
"Oh...uh...", Mateo only hesitated a small bit before hefting himself up, using Pepita's paw as an aid. It was harder than a Jaquin, but kinda the same also, and a thrill of the almost the same went through him and as Pepita took off, flapping her wings.
"Not that your new form's not very nice!", Mateo commented over the wind of their flying and as Pepita flew over the parks, scanning. Mateo still made sure to hold on.
The Alebrije made quick time over to the Mexico Pavilion, her senses just leading her, and circling, landed, where she could, a ways from Héctor. Mateo slid off her back and spotted the skeleton over near a display or something. He took a breath, prepared what he would say, though seeing Pepita would take care of a lot of it, and rushed over. "Señor Héctor! I...I'm so sorry...I was just...trying out a spell and...your cat", Mateo began as he rushed up, gesturing behind him to the large cat that couldn't even be called that anymore.
