Reuben asked, before giving an option for an answer.
"Is it of a higher quality than the fox-guy's?"
Fibber smiled, No, well I don't know, but it's closer. That was the simple answer, he could reach Reuben's pineapple under the table, though Ohana did play a small part. And you probably wouldn't chase me for it. Which was true, as Reuben was over having a discussion about it and not taking true offense.
"We both know that I brought sandwiches. I'll try to score one of your cookies once I've eaten everything else on my plates."
Oh! I'll try them too. He didn't ask if Reuben had ever tried the BLP concept, and doubted he would try it out on a party. Whatever the format, his cousin's sandwiches were always good!
"Did you already eat?"
Fibber noticed Reuben had already piled up his plate. Oh, no, I wasn't sure when everything would get here. But maybe there wasn't any harm in surveying and picking something now. Fibber walked back over to the table, working at climbing a chair to get up there.
Wart also thought the skeleton spraying drink all over himself was funny--what pre-teen boy wouldn't? He looked down at the floor to try to hide the smile. If he was back home, he would assume that a walking skeleton was the product of some evil sorcerer. But he seemed to be friendly, and Wart was more than willing to assume he was what he appeared.
Maybe the skeleton would feel less embarrassed if left alone for the moment; Wart moved away to the table spread with food. Everything looked very appetizing, but the sight of so many strangers caused the boy to lose his nerve. He'd come here to meet new people, and now he couldn't bring himself to do it. Instead he fidgeted and tried to look around without looking like he was looking around.

The Mexican songwriter smiled sheepishly when Imelda made her commentary with that knowing smirk of hers, almost like she wasn't surprised that this would happen to him. He didn't know how that was the case that she wouldn't be surprised because this soda thing splashing all over him took him by surprise and he was the one that it happened to! Then again, most things didn't surprise Imelda. For some reason, even if they were a year a part, things still continued to surprise him. Papá Héctor watched as Imelda silently called over Rosa with an impressed smile, still taking delight in watching the small motherly things she would do. When Imelda spoke about an emergency kit, the skeletal musician cocked an eyesocket at his wife. Wait. Wait a minute. Did that mean that Imelda anticipated him having an emergency? Héctor parted his mouth and wasn't sure whether to be flattered that his wife knew him so well or if that should be an insult that he was an accident waiting to happen in Imelda's point of view. He decided to remain quiet and take it as a compliment for his own sanity.
Rosa came back obediently, fetching pants and shirts for him to wear. Héctor raised his eye sockets with interest and smiled appreciatively upon seeing that they actually took the time to actually buy him clothes! Given that he spent his life wearing borrowed clothing, he was still not used to such a kindness, and even a small thing as buying clothing that would have been considered normal between family members was actually a big thing for Héctor. It was similar to the time when Imelda got him the shoes and offered to patch up what used to be his torn clothing. "Gracias, mija!" He was very touched that his family would go out of their way to buy him clothes like this!
"I got this and this. It looked old so I figured they were about what you wore"
The skeletal ancestor's eyelids lowered to a deadpan expression upon hearing Rosa said that he got them because they looked old. "Oh, how considerate!" He remarked sarcastically with a wry, teasing smile at his great great granddaughter. When he glanced at the pants, Héctor looked up at her with an inquisitive expression. "What? I don't wear these things!" He wore formal pants, these "old" things were actually new in comparison to what he and Imelda wore! "Fine, I'll try it on.." It was hard for him to say no to Rosa.
"Look it's you!"
Héctor smiled a little at Rosa when she next showed him the shirts, which were not the formal, button down sleeves that he would have worn but shirts with short sleeves and pictures on them. He couldn't help but face palm himself, rubbing his forehead with his skeletal finger tips as he spoke. "Mija, I wear camisas with the long sleeve-! They got me on a shirt?" He paused in the middle of speaking and held the t-shirt with his picture on it in both of his hands. His younger self that wanted to be famous would have been all over this, but now he was just silently amazed and bewildered to be recognized. It was just like seeing his photo that Miguel had, that would have been on the ofrenda. At this point in his life, the skeletal great-great grandfather didn't care about being famous anymore. "Eh, I'll take the Miguel one!" He decided casually with a shrug and a content smile, wanting to promote Miguel. "This one also says Coco.." He pointed out with a smile, taking delight in both Miguel's picture and his daughter's name on a shirt. It still baffled him why his little girl was so famous though, but he was flattered and liked that she was all the same.
After barely a few minutes of changing in the men's bathroom, given how rapid Héctor was in changing clothing, he emerged wearing the striped pajama pants and the shirt that had Miguel's face painted image on it. "Bueno..the only pants that fit me was this one! This one has it's own strings to tie!" He exclaimed impressively with a grin, really finding it rather handy that the modern pants now came with their own strings to tie instead of needing a belt! Unfortunately, Héctor was too skinny for the other khaki pants and the rope belt that looped around his waist more than once was not fitting through the belt straps for him to be able to use it with his rope belt. "How do I look, eh?" He chirped, lowering his eyelids with a charming grin at Imelda, given that he only cared about impressing his wife of course and his wife's opinion.
The centenarian skeleton in the modern clothes he wore now looked even younger than before, much like the 21 year old adolescent of the modern-day time.

Helen nodded with a smile of understanding when Imelda seemed to apologize and explain better what Alebrijes were. It made it sound like they were pets that guide you to die? "Oh! Huh..that's interesting!" Was all Helen said pensively with a smile, trying to assimilate to that concept. She realized that Imelda hadn't seen animals in a while in the land of the dead, all they had were those alebrijes. What must that have been like to see them all of the sudden in the land of the living again? She hadn't really thought of suddenly not seeing animals or plants in the afterlife. As far as these alebrijes were concerned, maybe they were like service dogs or guardian pets, she supposed. They wouldn't have any pets, not that she would dare mention this aloud given the human-like animals that were here. Somehow talking about 'pets' sounded kinda rude? Anyways, it wasn't important. They moved so much, and especially with their powers? Any animal would be quick to high tail it out of there at the first sign of a power. Speaking of which..
The auburn haired mother shook the fox's hand with an intrigued smile. "Thanks, Nick!" Helen replied to Nick appreciatively. "Yeah, we've got a good group of people here.." She remarked with a smirk, turning to notice Héctor suddenly whistling for her son to come over to him. She lowered her eyelids and eyed Dash suspiciously by the cookies before he watched him hurry over to Héctor. Wiggins' mention of his job previously and what he currently does now caught her interest again. "That was yours? Wow! You certainly have an eye for detail!" She smiled impressively upon recalling the prancing horse topiary. She could never do any art-related things or much less sing aside from a hum to her kids if she had to lull them to sleep; she preferred to read them to sleep rather than doing any lullabies though. In fact, she greatly disliked anyone singing her Elastigirl theme song. That was just not going to be a thing.
"Yes indeed, that is a very good idea. We don't want to risk a certain power damaging this party at all"
Helen heard Edna whisper back as she bent a little by her. She nodded in agreement to the fashionista. "Yeah, I'd better go over there and check on him," Before she could think on checking on her baby with Vi, Helen blinked her eyes when she heard a yelp and turned to find Imelda's husband completely drenched in what appeared to be soda based on the bottle he was holding. Oh man! Helen bit her lower lip, nodding over to Imelda already signalling to her that she was going to take care of it.
Helen decided to help not draw all the attention towards the soaking wet skeleton walking away to get himself cleaned up with Imelda by announcing to the entire room: "I wanted to thank everyone so much for coming! On behalf of my family, I can't tell ya how thankful we are for everyone who wanted to pitch in with this potluck. I think a "homely" kind of dinner is kind of warranted around this time of year, so I'm glad that we're all here to enjoy it. If ya haven't started yet, go ahead and help yourselves to anything you want, and Happy Thanksgiving!"
With a satisfied smile after giving that speech for them all to dig in, Helen then walked over to a young blonde boy that was about the same height as her daughter Vi. "Hey, thanks for coming to the party! Sorry, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Helen Parr." She extended her hand out to shake the boy's hand with a warm smile. He seemed by himself, and her motherly senses were just wanting him to feel comfortable like he was right at home, not realizing the nobility of the boy.
"Yea, I'd go for the closer one myself." He was just that lazy. He remembered the BLP idea they'd discussed previously. Fibber might have thought about it too when he mentioned bringing sandwiches to the potluck. "And I thought it'd be betta' for us to share the first BLP 'fore we make it public." He pointed a thumb back at the sandwich platter "I brought BLT, like you had last time." His cousin's interest was diverted to the food. Reuben followed him to the tables, and watched him ascend a chair to get to the food. He didn't need to help Fibber, he was just waitin' for his cousin to get his food so they could talk again. He briefly turned and smiled when he saw Hector's new duds. Good, it seemed his prank hadn't ruined the skeleton's party experience. "Yo Hector! Who's the kid on your shirt?" He asked, in case the skeleton knew. Then he turned to listen to the hostess, Dashiell's mother, announce her thanks for the potluck attendance. He tore a bite out of the turkey leg in his hand, and chewed furiously as he focused his attention back on his cousin.

Héctor looked surprised by her preparations for anything and everything happening. Imelda knew how it may look, but then...Héctor did also have a tendency towards mishaps even now. She had yet to see what, if anything, Rosa had fetched for her on her trip to the local shops, and seeing what she got Héctor, Imelda was almost worried.
She'd of course sent the girl with generic instructions on her Papa Héctor, but as for her! She had very specific tastes she doubted the clothes of this century could fit.
She got even more worried at Rosa's comment on the clothes looking old so fitting, though she knew the girl was just teasing Héctor as he was amiable enough to allow for even in his patriarchal position.
Even Imelda had to hide a smile at Héctor's protests on the clothes though and, much like she would, trying to describe what they wore.
"Look it's you!"
Imelda's eyes next widened as she still smiled a small smile. She was perhaps more used to printed Tees, having visited this century more times than Héctor, and even if it was mostly Benny and Manny who had the little kid versions, but them on shirts was just disconcerting! And not just for the fame issue.
Héctor of course passed up the one with him on it for the one with Miguel. Still unsettling, but Imelda had already had a brief idea of what her great-great-granddaughter had been able to find and come to terms with the fact that, as she said, 'That was all they had that would fit'. She didn't know if the girl had meant style wise or skeletal frame.
Héctor changed, and then emerged wearing the new clothes.
"How do I look, eh?"
Imelda hid a smile again, "Like Abel that time he went through that phase before Elena put a stop to it", was her first comment, before she smiled more naturally, "It'll do". She knew neither of these was the comment Héctor had been hoping for, and was just teasing again. She then slightly made up for it by taking his arm, "Come on, let's head back". They reentered just as Helen was making her announcement it seemed, not that Imelda minded, and they still caught it.

Papa Héctor thanked her as she handed over the clothes Mama Imelda had sent her out for a while back, and Rosa smiled just smiled back, but did take it to heart, as she always did, that she could be helpful; though, and almost more so because, Papa Héctor was helping her discover what she really wanted to do along with and amidst all the just filling duty towards family.
"Oh, how considerate!"
Rosa giggled, the banter was also just part of their understanding as well! As he went on to defend what he did and didn't wear. Rosa didn't miss that he probably tried them on because she'd picked them out though and just smiled again as she handed the pants over.
A small part of Rosa's soul was pleased when Papa Héctor took the shirt with Miguel on it just because that would mean it would be more in public display of their small familia at least and she could rag her primo more on it! She had not forgotten that joy in life just because she was a violinist now too! Miguel probably still hardly went a day when she didn't have some small comment or nudge for him!
"This one also says Coco.."
"Yeah Mama Coco seems the most well known out of all of us here, if people know about us", Rosa commented, and just what she had discovered in her time around the parks, "It's odd...", she didn't mean bad though. She just still couldn't figure out why that would be, but then if she was the one that had made sure her father's memory was preserved, Rosa supposed it made sense.
"How do I look, eh?" "Like Abel that time he went through that phase before Elena put a stop to it"
Rosa laughed again, partly from recalling that incident, and when her brother tried out something besides the modest clothing the Rivera's had become known for in trying to fit in with some kids at school, blowing his allowance only for Abuelita to set him straight and tell him his old clothes were fine. They returned the clothes, but somehow Abel never got his money back.
Reuben agreed with his choice of going for the closer one, of course his cousin was also well known for taking the easiest way possible about things...
And not that Fibber would criticize him for it. He was just concerned with truth, laziness was a gray area and of no consequence.
"And I thought it'd be betta' for us to share the first BLP 'fore we make it public."
That was actually a very good idea and point! Fibber realized. What if it was bad? they didn't want to tarnish Reuben's sandwich making credibility for no reason.
"I brought BLT, like you had last time."
Great! Fibber nodded eagerly. Reuben probably assumed that he had a favorite, and possibly in the BLT, and though it had been good, he knew all of his cousin's sandwiches were and couldn't wait to try something else also!
Oh and I made pineapple cookies. The second turned out better than the first. Fibber made his own comment on food stuffs he'd made and off the idea Reuben had given him his first day here.
As Miss Helen gave her announcement and said it was ok to start eating, Fibber felt even less bad about starting in. He tried to not crawl over the table as much as he could.
Putting a sandwich on his plate, he then chose a tamale and some casserole stuff. He would get the dessert stuff later. Fibber then hopped down.
Wart just moved over to the wall and tried to look unobtrusive, though he wouldn't have known that word.
Hey, thanks for coming to the party! Sorry, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Helen Parr.
It took him a second to realize the voice was speaking to him.
"Oh. H-hello. My name is Wart, ma'am. Um, thank you for inviting me. It's a very nice party." He couldn't tell if that was a good thing to say or not, but it was out and couldn't be recalled. Besides, he meant it; he was thankful for being invited, and he thought it was a nice party.
While trying to think of something else appropriate to say, the boy king happened to notice the face of someone he'd met before.
"Rosa!" he blurted out. "I know her!" He had thought he'd never again see the girl he'd met on his first arrival, though why Wart couldn't have told you.

After seeing Papa Héctor back safely to the party (though really Mama Imelda was doing that, Rosa just joked to herself that she was) the girl went to mingle again when she caught the sound of a young boy calling out. She had drifted near Miss Helen so was in earshot of Wart’s call, though it didn’t seem fully directed at her.
She still glanced over with her own stunned smile at spotting the boy who had seemingly come in at the same time as her, and whom she still didn’t know was a king.
”Hey Wart!”, Rosa gave credence to his words by commenting as she walked up. ”How have you been?”, she asked. She of course noticed the mouse and Miss Helen also, and was polite as well, as she knew she should be, but also genuinely. ”It really is a great party Miss Helen, gracias for hosting it!”

Like Abel that time he went through that phase before Elena put a stop to it..It'll do"
Thinking it started out as a compliment, Héctor grinned broadly at first upon hearing that he looked like his great great grandson, Abel, but then it faltered a bit into a confused one by the end of Imelda's statement. That phase? What was that phase? Also, she said their granddaughter, Elena, had put a stop to Abel's phase... yet Imelda said that it'll do. What was that supposed to mean? Was that a good thing or not?! Oh, the sense that she was not making! Did it have something to do with music? No, but he had no idea why Rosa would be giggling, though he smiled at how cute it sounded. Before he could ask, Imelda took his arm and suggested that they head back. Always one to melt with any affection Imelda would give, the famous musician decided to let it go until he'd ask Rosa later, allowing his wife to lead him away back to the ballroom again.
"Yo Hector! Who's the kid on your shirt?"
Now entering the room wearing his face painted Miguel shirt that said "Coco" on it along with his striped Jack Skellington tied up pants, Héctor was instantly greeted by Reuben again with a "yo," which he learned did not mean "me" but was actually a greeting. "Ey Reuben!" A bright smile lit up his face upon hearing his question about his shirt! "Oh, that's Miguel! I'm his great-great grandpa!" The jovial skeleton jabbed a finger to his ribbed chest proudly. Well, it was only recently that he was able to say such a thing after all. Besides, Héctor was more proud to be known as the great great grandpa to Rosa and Miguel than to be known as a famous musician. Eh, he was a simple guy. Let Rosa and Miguel have the spotlight. Unfortunately, Rosa had already migrated to that blonde boy he had met earlier before he could introduce her as his great great grandpa, too. That was okay though! After he helped to serve plates for Imelda and his great great grandchildren, he was entertained by stealing a glance over at Rosa and the blond boy, amorously whispering to Imelda about how he felt for her in these meetings when they were young.

"Oh. H-hello. My name is Wart, ma'am. Um, thank you for inviting me. It's a very nice party."
His name is Wart? Helen's motherly instinct would have been concerned if this poor boy had a tough family life to be called something like that, though maybe it was a cultural thing? Either way, she couldn't judge. She had heard similarly unique names of Supers, she supposed; Reflux being one of them. "Thanks, it's really nice to meet you..Wart!" Helen smiled warmly down at the boy, wanting to help him get more comfortable with meeting others. "Were you able meet anyone else here?" Just as she asked, Wart seemed to instantly be steps ahead of her by noticing Rosa, Imelda's great-great granddaughter!
"It really is a great party Miss Helen, gracias for hosting it!”
"Aw, that's sweet of you to say, Rosa. Thanks! Glad to hear that you're enjoying the party!" It was always a positive thing to hear as a host of these sorts of parties. She had never really done anything like this before, but it was encouraging that perhaps she could do something similar next year. After all, this first started off as just a close-family type of idea until Helen realized that a lot of people here didn't get to have families to have home-cooked meals on this day. Even as a stay-at-home mother, she was happy that she could give back to her community in this way. "Well, I'm off to check on the baby, but feel free to dig in on some of the food!" With a wave of her hand, Helen walked to check on the baby at the other end of the room, just to make sure that he was behaving well. The undercover super learned that if she was far away from Jack-Jack for too long, this would end up with a whole spectacle of powers that she did NOT need to happen in front of everyone. Aside from the usual argument that ensued within her family, this event ended up perfectly normal, and was a promising end for the stay-at-home mother to host more events in the future.
