Life with Robert and Morgan had shifted subtly since the Kings and Queens Ball. Giselle couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, but after Robert had saved her and then she had saved him, things were different. Better, to be sure. She was still settling into her role as Morgan's step mother, but both Morgan and Robert were so very patient with her as she learned.
Her first time doing laundry alone, without help from her animal friends, Robert and Morgan had come home to an apartment full of suds, and Giselle leaning out the window to sing.
Some habits were harder to break than others.
Still, telling stories to Morgan at night was very pleasant. Sometimes Robert took a turn, but Giselle never minded. In fact, Giselle was planning on buying a big book of fairy tales, the biggest she could find. She wanted to do it that evening, when Robert took Morgan to karate. But first, they had a picnic planned.
Giselle had spent the day, while Morgan was at school and Robert at work, gathering and preparing a picnic for the three of them to take to Central Park. She'd called in some help from pigeons and mice-- something she'd planned to keep secret from Robert--to get everything ready. Of course, she'd texted Robert about the picnic first, which was practically a story on its own.
Robert had left work early to pick Giselle up, and then they went to get Morgan from school. After that, they went to Central Park.
Robert had a few choice words for Morgan about the use of his credit card, and Giselle watched, feeling kinda bad. Morgan had used the card because of her. She thought it had all turned out okay, though, considering how well the ball had gone overall. Sure, she'd been poisoned and knocked out, and Narissa had shown up, turned herself into a dragon, and then kidnapped Robert, but Giselle and Robert had shared their first kiss--True Love's Kiss, in fact. Giselle would do it all again, in a heartbeat.
Giselle skipped ahead a little, swinging the picnic basket as she did. She spun around, checking to make sure Robert and Morgan were still close--maybe Morgan would skip with her! But instead, Giselle found herself in a new place. Instead of grass, she stood on a cobbled road. Around her, unfamiliar trees stretched to the sky, and Giselle felt a faint panic she hadn't felt since her arrival in New York City.
But, she hadn't been near a well! And where were Robert and Morgan? She called for them. No one responded.
Giselle knew there was something she could do to find them. She decided to sing, vocalizing in her usual way, to draw animals to her.
