It took Giselle almost no time at all to get used to the parks. She still missed Robert terribly, but she found some comfort that Morgan was with her. Surely, though, Robert was searching all of New York City for Morgan and Giselle. Giselle had no doubts about that. Even if Robert wasn’t the deep romantic Giselle had long-believed she would be with, he was a worry-wart, and he would turn the city upside down to find them.
The only problem was, they weren’t in New York City anymore, and apparently there was no chance of him finding them. With Morgan, she had written a letter and given it to one of the “cast members” but he had given them a sorta sad look when he said he’d mail it for them. She wasn’t sure what it meant though.
With her hands clasped behind her back, she strolled down the street, humming the song she’d sang in Central Park. She’d fully meant it for Robert and Nancy, and she knew Robert probably wouldn’t do any of the things she suggested for Giselle herself, but she found that she didn’t really mind. There was one thing in her song that she knew Robert would do, and did. He found his own way to tell her, and that was all Giselle needed.
”That’s how you know she loves you,” Giselle murmured the line of her song, pausing to check her reflection in a shop window.

After having a wonderfully, successful Valentine's day, his first one in the land of the living since he was alive, one would imagine that Héctor Rivera would stop all his romantic schemes to please Imelda! He was a famous celebrity, a married man, and he had two great-great grandchildren to take care of with her! The skeletal ancestor should just slow things down, be complacent, right?
In fact, one of the most important "holidays" was coming up! Even more important than Valentine's day! This upcoming month was going to be Imelda's birthday! You can bet that it was as big of a deal as a holiday for Héctor. It was her first birthday in the land of the living - with him! The other one she had without him.. well, it did count, but.. He couldn't have his reina have a simple birthday when it mattered so much to him that he was in the land of the living celebrating with her! He had to make it special!
Therefore, through the next few days after Valentine's Day, Héctor was already pondering on how to make Imelda's first birthday in the land of the living special. Unfortunately, thinking of some ideas was already distracting him from otherwise working. He told his family that he was going to look for gigs that his family could play at Hollywood Studios, but even the famous musician distracted himself again as he thought mostly about what to do for Imelda's birthday. Perhaps this was why Ernesto usually looked for the gigs, considering Héctor was too distracted by Imelda when he was younger.
But what could he do for Imelda? Something that she likes, obviously. This had to be really special though. At the moment, all Héctor could do was glance down at his guitar that he held in his skeletal hands as he sat on a bench by the stores. Héctor shot a sweet smile and gave them a friendly greeting at the few people that greeted him on the bench, especially the children that he always had a tender spot for. However, his thoughts were still on ideas for Imelda. Whenever he thought about Imelda, all he could think about was the music that inspired him to play for her.
”That’s how you know she loves you,”
Then he heard it. A soft, melodious song lyric that reached the Mexican musician's would-be ears and caused the skeleton's large brown eyes to glance over at the one who made it in front of the storefront barely a foot away. Even Héctor believed that the best kind of music were the ones uttered gently in a murmur or a whisper. It was more genuine. It instantly caused him to brighten up with a grin as he instantly stood up from his seat on the bench. "Hey! That is a great song verse!" Héctor exclaimed to her enthusiastically with a broad smile that bared his gleaming golden tooth. It wasn't for him to steal it, of course, but it did make him want to play with her. Inspired, he placed one foot on the bench as he stood adjacent to the bench to hold his strapless guitar that his family gave him before he strummed a chord that was in tune with the melody of the verse, starting with a D chord, then moving through the G chord and the A chord. "That's how I know, she loves me!" Héctor sang the same tune as he strummed the same chords again on his guitar. "Y ella sabra, que-es mi amor! (And she will know, that she's my love!)" The skeletal musician sang in Spanish as he strummed the same chords once more on his guitar, before looking up at her with a gold-toothed grin, wondering if she was going to add another lyric to what sounded like a great, romantic song!
Giselle flashed back to when the strange man had joined in her song in Central Park. Only then, he had been singing in the same language as her. This man sang in a different language! She couldn't understand the words, but she found herself very impressed that he had matched her melody with another language.
As soon as she turned around though, she was startled to see that the man singing had no skin! Her shock didn't last too long, though, as she was far too excited about the singing. She wasn't sure how to proceed though. Should she make up new words? Or continue with the words she had made up before? She didn't know anything about the skeleton or the woman (skeleton?) he loved. She could tell there was someone though. Just by the way he sang. There was a tenderness in his voice that Giselle couldn't miss.
She hurried to sit next to him on the bench, her hands poised before her as they often were. She decided she wanted to know more about this skeleton and his lady (skeleton?) love. "You have such a lovely voice," she told him. "Oh please, tell me about her. I want to help you make a song you can sing for her! How do you show her you love her? How does she know?"

"Hey! Thank you," Héctor responded with a friendly smile when the girl complimented his singing and sat all formalita next to him. He wasn't shy about his singing, and had a healthy esteem enough to know he was good at it. If you were to ask him, he'd still prefer Imelda's voice. When it came to guitar though, he knew he was definitely better than even Ernesto. "I really liked that sweet verse! How did you learn it?" He didn't ask where did she hear it, leaving it open for her to answer if she made it up herself or if she heard it from another song. He wasn't used to the former though. In fact, the last time he asked this question was when he first heard his secret song to Coco being sang by a stranger in the land of the dead. The skeletal musician raised an eyesocket curiously when she asked him to tell him about her, meaning Imelda. How did she know that? Was she a secret reporter or journalist? "..That is weirdly sounding like an interview.." He smiled a little awkwardly, not sure if she was trying to ask him questions the way everyone suddenly found an interest in him after ignoring him for so long in the land of the dead. He tried to avoid interviews unless it was going to help advertise Imelda's shoemaking business. His family asking questions was a different story, though he'd make some exceptions with close friends. As far as best friends though? He had none. Not since Ernesto, and he was especially hesitant about calling anyone a best friend after what happened last time.
Then, both of the skeleton's eye sockets rose upon hearing the living young lady say that she wanted to help him create a song about her. Well, that changed things! It wasn't an interview at all. It was only friendly questions musician-to-musician, like Miguelito would say. Before he could answer her additional questions, he blinked as he placed a hand up for her to pause for a moment. "..Wait, wait, wait..You're a musician, too?!" Héctor asked enthusiastically, always interested in meeting other musicians. This one seemed to be from around here in America, and he was very curious about American music! He didn't say he was a famous one though. Héctor wanted to know more about her as a musician, but he decided to introduce himself first before formally answering her questions. "I'm Héctor!" Héctor jutted out a skeletal hand for her to shake it, bearing a gold-toothed grin. He was still getting used to introducing himself with his last name, but he forgot this time because he was distracted by the talk of music! "Oh, great idea! You could help me write another song about Imelda!" It was like this girl came at the right moment to figure out Imelda's birthday present!
"You wanted to know more about her? Okay! Bueno.." Héctor began to strum a chord on his guitar absent-mindedly with an enamored smile. Imelda was his favorite subject! "Her name is Imelda, and she is my wife!" Héctor said that in such a heartfelt way, more than it needed to be for anyone else probably.. but only because for him, it was not long ago when he didn't think it was possible to even call her that. "Oh, she's so beautiful..even the way that she carries herself..it's why I call her my reina, because she is like a queen for me.." He trailed off with an affectionate smile, just thinking about how she moved; even when she would pace like that with her hands on her hips or make that adorable hop when she'd take off her shoe, it was all so graceful and elegant to Héctor. "She's got this presence about her, you know? It's like this fire inside of her.. even when she doesn't sing, she can grab the attention of the entire room whenever she wants!" The hopeless romantic Héctor tried to describe what was the most powerful, most captivating thing that he loved about Imelda. She could easily command the attention of anyone. He wondered if she knew how powerful she could be to an audience in comparison to even him.
Next, he proceeded to answer her question about how does she know that he loves her, which was out of order from her list of questions, but he wanted to continue talking about her before he'd talk about himself. "Imelda could have anyone she wants, but she said I was the love of her life!" Héctor would forever feel like the lucky one to even have not only one chance but two chances where she chose him! "I see it the way her beautiful eyes meet mine...with that smile she wears.. she doesn't smile for no reason, you know? So, when she does, I know that it's real.." She wasn't like a lot of girls that would have these fake smiles even when they were feeling sad; even he did it sometimes to hide his own sadness. If she was happy with family or friends, then she'd smile because she had a reason to; but if she wasn't happy or pleased with something, she wasn't. Simple as that. It was one of the things that he greatly respected about her, that she was her genuine self. "It was not easy to convince her to give me a chance..but that was what made everything worth while!" It was hard to win her affections the first time, and even harder the second time around. It was always worth it though. Héctor could have eyes for no one else. "Ah, I tried everything I could think of to show her how much I love her..I used to write letters just to let her know how much I was thinking about her..taking her out to eat, taking her dancing, serenading songs to her every night at her balcony... eh, and I've done some pretty loco things.. I even wrote a song about it once when we were young..wanting to tell her how crazy I am for her.. that I would do anything for her.." The skeletal musician smiled amorously at the ideas he had to impress Imelda, and still continue to do even now. The only one he'd do that for is his daughter, Coco. He warmly upon thinking of Coco. He missed having his two girls at home, though having Rosa there helped having that sense of familiarity. "Just like I would do anything for my daughter.." He'd face criminal charges for her. The smile that the skeleton wore tinged with sadness at the ends of his mouth at that moment, just missing Coco so much and wishing that she was here with him.
"Bueno, what about you? What inspires you to sing?" Héctor quickly brightened up again, asking more about her as a musican as to what inspires her music. "You got someone in your life to sing for?" He asked with a curious smile, though he wasn't quick to assume that the young lady would be a romantic relationship given that he wrote Remember Me for his daughter, which wasn't meant to be sung in a romantic way.
Giselle’s hands folded together, resting on her chest. ”Actually, I came up with the song myself. For a friend, about the woman he loved. But now he loves me instead. I’ve been changing some of the words around so they fit me and him better.” His interview comment went over her head. While she had been interviewed herself about Pip’s appearance at the pizza restaurant, she wasn’t really familiar with the word itself.
Giselle practically melted at her new friend’s words. She wanted to find Robert in the parks, drag him to the skeleton, point and say, ”See, true love does exist!” For once, she didn’t feel the pang of missing Robert. Maybe because Hector was so... alive when he talked about Imelda. ”I wouldn’t exactly say I’m a musician, I just like making songs up. I’m Giselle!” She shook his hand eagerly, not bothered by its boniness.
The initial thought that crossed her mind was a question of how anyone could not smile for no reason. But then, Giselle thought perhaps she was very good at finding reasons to smile, and maybe Imelda wasn’t as good at it. Still, Giselle knew she’d have to work a line about her smile into the melody.
At Hector’s words, Giselle realized that the song as it was almost exactly matched what Hector had done. Letters, dancing, singing, telling her he loved her... It was uncanny! It seemed he was following all of the advice she’d given to Robert, without having heard any of the advice from her.
Hooking some of her red hair behind one ear, she considered the few songs she’d come up with. She had told her animal friends about true love’s kiss, convinced other animal friends to help her clean, and explained love (as she saw it) to Robert. She’d never really considered her inspirations before. The question stumped Giselle. ”I guess I don’t really know what inspires me. The moment itself, maybe?” She’d vocalized a lot before meeting Prince Edward, and had done it less frequently after her move to New York City. It just hadn’t seemed as necessary. In her cottage in the woods, her animal friends were her only company. Singing drew them to her when she needed them most. In New York City, she had Robert and Morgan.
She did think she had someone to sing for, even if she didn’t sing as often as she used to. ”Oh, yes. I live with Robert and Morgan, and I would definitely sing for both of them! Robert is my true love, and Morgan is his daughter.”
