You know, there's a recipe to making a proper snowman.
Building a snowman was a favorite hobby of the young princesses of Arendelle. And with Elsa's magic, it was an activity the girls could do year-round.
It was a late summer evening, and technically the girls were supposed to be asleep. Their parents had already told them goodnight and tucked them in. However, as the girls shared a bedroom, they almost never fell asleep at a good hour.
Most often, the girls discussed snowmen. Sometimes Elsa told Anna about something she had learned from her tutors, or Anna would tell Elsa about a shiny rock she'd found in the courtyard. Whatever they discussed, it was a special bonding time for the sisters.
Talking quietly also ensured their parents and the castle's workers went to bed before the girls got back up.
The nights that the girls would sneak out of bed to play, they always went to the ballroom. It was spacious, and the hardwood floor was better for ice skating than their bedroom. Not to mention their bedroom had toys and their beds. Elsa didn't mind sleeping in snow, but she knew Anna didn't like it.
Eight-year-old Elsa had spent most of her day thinking about that evening's conversation. Her tutors had realized she was too distracted to get much done, and had released her early. She'd retreated to the library for further daydreams. Elsa knew she'd have to make up the extra work in the next few days, but she considered it worth the daydreams. She knew it was an excuse that wouldn't always work, and she also knew it wasn't something that would happen often. She felt responsibility enough to ensure that. Her studies were important, after all.
Elsa heard Anna shifting restlessly across the room. She thought now was the perfect time to say, "You know, there's a recipe to making a proper snowman." She kept her voice quiet enough that if someone passed in the hall, they (probably) wouldn't hear her, but it was loud enough for Anna to hear.
