Chip inspected a few of the Donald toys on display, one noticeably gone from the rest. It didn't appear stolen, in fact, someone had probably bought it. The asking price was awfully steep, all things considered, ranging from at least a hundred dollars at best; but would a villain even want to buy a toy when he could just steal something right off the bat? He decided to investigate the scene by talking to a few of the guests and tourists, to get a good bearing on the villain himself - the chipmunk still didn't know what he looked like, or even the previous past it had with Basil either. Chip remained awfully curious at this point.
Managing to make his way from one counter of clothing to another small display he could get his feet and hands on to climb, Chip watched the humans go about their daily concerns despite the robbery that had gone on. Placing his hands on his hips he managed to catch the attention of a small child and her mother, having been here for at least a few days and were now going about to collect some fine memorabilia on the matter. The younger girl, about eleven, was quite pleased to see the chipmunk there on top of some Goofy porcelain figurines right above him.
"Look mom! It's Chip!" said the girl, "And he's standing right there!"
Chip finally beamed the happiest. Finally, a little bit of recognition for a change! "Hi there! I don't suppose you could help me out, could you? That okay with you?" he squeaked, prompting immediate attention from the younger girl and soon a few other youngsters and teenagers in the area. While he wasn't expecting this much of a turn-out, the attention was enough to make him happy for hours, maybe even longer. "Hehe, don't worry, it's nothing - but did you all hear about that theft a little bit ago?"
"Yeah-huh!" said the girl, "Are you gonna solve the case, Chip? Where's Dale?"
The chipmunk didn't answer the latter, but he did not. "You betcha, I am! I've got a few leads," the chipmunk added, unintentionally leaving Basil out of the running, and then adjusted his collar of the jacket, "I just want to know, did anyone come here and buy the Donald toy here a little while ago? Anyone big, or thin, or something? Maybe a floating blob?"
Chip looked into the crowd. It was perhaps the best moment he had so far at the park, and used this to only gain himself some confidence. As far as actual help, he managed to latch onto something juicy - it didn't come in the form of a physical clue, but something all the more merrier.
"Well, see," began one civilian, "There was this guy, ya see, and - big, lanky. I guess he loved a lot of the toys in here, even that one Mickey mirror in the back. He couldn't get one though; he had this kinda Snidely Whiplash thing going, ya know?"
Chip nodded. "Yeah, yeah! Keep going!"
"Well, I bought him one of those things. I figured he wanted it as a momento. Why?"
"Welp," concluded the chipmunk, "That's one of the things that was left behind at the crime scene! If anyone can tell me where he ran off to, that'd be great! Did anyone spot him run off or anything like that?"
Not a clue.
"He looked like a bum!" shouted another young boy in the small crowd, issuing quite a lengthy response of chuckles - Chip being one of them as well.
"Okay guys! Thanks for the help! You're doing this for a good cause!" spoke Chip allowed, stirring claps from the crowd who hoped to see the villain brought down, even as far as the cape was concerned. Feeling happier now, he knew just -who- to look for. It was only a question of where to get him; he'd have to stick close...
