ABOUT THE SITE IN GENERAL.
What is the role-playing level?
We want role-players to be advanced and literate writers, but we also welcome those who are striving to improve their writing skills. Posts should be 125 words or longer.
Is this a Disney personification site?
This is a canon-character roleplay only. While many Disney RPGs these days are Disney-personified, Worlds of Disney is not. You cannot create an original character based off a Disney one.
Who are the administrators and how can I contact them?
Current admins are Walt, Basil, and Elsa, though we each play other characters as well. Please note that Walt is the site's admin account; consequently, I don't use it very often and will see your query a lot sooner if you contact Basil instead.
You can contact us in 3 ways: send us a PM (personal message) by clicking on our names anywhere they appear, post a message in the c-box (chat box), create a thread stating your question in the Your Wish is My Command section of the board.
How is the application reviewed?
We review it based on both quality and quantity. We want to see character accuracy and how much you can discuss about him/her. If you can't think of anything to write, you've probably chosen the wrong character. We will look for the major details about the character you choose.
How you write is also an integral part of the application process, as it will show us your ability. Your writing must be understandable without major errors that make it hard to read. You will want to make a good first impression on the admins, as the application will determine whether you will be approved as a WoD member.
Can I use the Disney Wiki to write my application?
You may not plagiarize from any Wiki or other website; your app must be your own work. You are free to cull information from such sites ("I didn't know Donald's middle name was Faunteleroy") if you don't copy and paste text written by others. But, BEWARE! Wikis are filled with misinformation which they copy from one site to another. Just because you read something on the internet doesn't make it Disney canon.
Besides which, Wikis are notorious for their POOR WRITING. If you lift portions of a wiki to fill out your app, you will be instructed to remove those portions or lose your account.
My character's name doesn't appear in the movie. How do I fill out the app?
If your character has no name specified, you are free to make up a name. Other characters have to call him something. And if that character has been here before with a different name, don't worry, we'll just ignore that little inconsistency.
What do I do when my thread is finished?
If you end a thread, feel free to write "The End" in the final post. If none of the admins spot it, you can always send us a message. Then, after a few days to a week (giving other members who might be following it time to read the final post), it will be moved to the Hall of Fame section to be preserved for posterity.
If you have an unfinished thread that the participants don't care to finish, a message to the admins will get it moved to the Graveyard. If a thread languishes for too long with no new posts, or if some participants are no longer members, it will be moved to the Graveyard as well.
I see some other members make their characters' dialogue in bold type. Do I have to bold my dialogue?
Nope. That is totally voluntary. Just remember you are shooting for clarity and ease of understanding.
HELP! I was gone for a while, and now my character has been deleted!
Sounds like you failed to log in last month. Members who fail to post anywhere within a calendar month risk having their characters deleted and their accounts terminated. This is how we clear out unused characters, making them available for other members who may want them.
Should this happen to you, fear not! You can always create a new account and re-apply, as long as that character is still available. We can resurrect your old application if asked. Or, you can find it yourself in the Graveyard, copy the information, and paste it into a brand new application.
I am just a member, but how can I contribute to make Worlds of Disney a better place?
There are lots you can do as a member! You can advertise for us, invite and welcome new members, answer questions... The admins are not available 24/7, so your help is still vital for those in need!
ABOUT THE PLOT
What is the setting for Worlds of Disney?
Our setting is Walt Disney World in Florida, which is actually 4 theme parks in one, also including hotels, Disney Marketplace, and the Disney Cruise Line. However, we do have The Nexus section, where you can cross over into Disney's other parks. We are not worried so much about accuracy when it comes to park layout, so don't worry if you've never been there. Just take a look at a map on the internet to get an idea of the lay of the land, and go from there.
My favorite ride is gone from the parks. Can I still use it in a thread?
Sure! Nothing is ever really gone from our online theme park. Feel free to find the Rocket Rods, Kitchen Kabaret, or Adventures in Inner Space up and running as needed.
Can characters go back to their respective realms?
No. Walt Disney World is a prison! Part of the plot is coping with the real-life adversities of real-life people. Like the film Enchanted.
Have all the animated characters become...life-like?
They don't look like cartoons, as in Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Bonkers. Neither do they change in appearance as in Enchanted. We are somewhere in-between: your characters look like they do in their films, but they are recognized by others as real people, not animated.
What's the conflict and mission?
The conflict is the Disney characters finding themselves trapped in the harsh realities of our world. Although there is no solution on how to escape, their mission is to cope with the adversities of life and interact with characters from other realities. That said, you are free to create your own conflicts and missions in the threads you create. Does Maleficent want to cast a curse on Peter Pan? Does Grumpy get along with Tarzan? Does Kuzco look down on Rapunzel? The possibilities are as vast and varied as the Disney characters themselves.
Does my character come with any items from the movie?
This has to be a case-by-case decision. Small personal items are fine: Flora can have her wand, Taran, his sword, and Lilo her doll Scrump. Some characters might be allowed larger items, if they are unique and ubiquitous, such as Vanellope and her Kart.
Most things you need can be found in the parks, with a little creative imagination. Does Launchpad want a biplane? Try the prop room at Hollywood Studios. Does Grammi need some Gummi Berries? No doubt there are berry bushes growing in Fantasyland. Mr. Toad looking for a red motorcar? Why, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, of course. We have even seen a pop-up selling magic potions, just in case.
What is that Flashback section about?
Our Blast to the Past area was created to allow members to create threads about what happened before coming to Walt Disney World. You can post Peter in Never Land or Robin Hood in Nottingham, or wherever your character lived before. But you'll need other members from the same movie to interact with. You can't create a thread between Hiro and Tadashi if our site doesn't have both characters as members.
What if I pick a character who has been here before?
If you choose a character who once appeared on Worlds of Disney but has since been deleted, then he or she was whisked back to their own time after their adventures here, only to return to Disney World via that same unrevealed magic. Although other characters may remember yours, rest assured you are starting fresh and have no memories of your time in the parks.
Is this site for animated characters only?
We allow some live-action characters, as well as characters from the parks, but they must be Disney-created (not Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Muppets, or Avatar). However, we do NOT allow later versions, live-action or not, of established Disney characters. In the case of remakes, the originals stand.
I'm using a modern character...does that mean he's seen the Disney movies the other characters come from?
No. With the exception of Woody's Round-Up and Bolt's TV series, which your character might be familiar with, your characters will react to others as people, not film characters.
Can I choose any non-Disney characters?
This is a Disney-only site. However, if you think the character you have in mind merits an exception, contact the admins for permission. Hint: you just might be allowed a character from Voyage of the Dawn Treader, a film that should've been Disney.
What is the mood of the plot?
We have both serious threads and comic threads.
If I play a Disney character that possess magic, does that mean he/she has completely lost it?
Not at all. Your character's magical powers are intact up to a point. Characters with uber-powerful magic (Zeus comes to mind) must be treated with extreme care or they will ruin every conflict in which they get involved. Expect to have some discussions with the admins if you choose such a character. If, on the other hand, your character uses magic on a more normal level, like Merlin or the Fairy Godmother, you should have no problems. Anyone who possesses a way out of the park in which all are trapped must PM the Admins before putting that into a thread.
Can anyone die?
Never! If your characters died in the movie, they are alive and well here. Except, of course, for the skeletons of Coco, ghosts from the Haunted Mansion, and Mulan's ancestors, who are all dead, but can still be used here. And in a Disney park, no one ever ages.
