Has anyone gotten a chance to see "Wreck-It Ralph" recently? Well, I did just today, and let me tell you: It was REALLY good! ;D
For those of you who don't know what the plot is about, it's about a video game character named Wreck-It Ralph who yearns to be as beloved as his game's perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. The problem is that nobody loves a Bad Guy, so he leaves the game one day to seek out heroism and happiness. During his search, he comes across another video game character named Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking "glitch" from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it's "Game Over" for the entire arcade?
Here are my thoughts on it:
When I first heard about it and saw all those trailers and commercials from the beginning, I thought it seemed like a basic story that wasn't so special, but after seeing it today, WOW! It was a big surprise for me. It's got very smart writing, it's very creative, and it's a lot of fun. It even takes advantage of both the scope and designs of the different game settings to help make the story really work. I even got a chuckle out of the subtle jokes from some of the classic game characters that make cameos in this movie.
I'd give "Wreck-It Ralph" a 10 out of 10, perhaps the best new Disney movie I've seen in years. ^^
On a side note, the animated short that plays before the movie (called "Paperman") was very interesting to watch, for it seems to mix the traditional 2D style animation with the smooth flow of computer animation to bring out a quaint and cute love story, all without any dialogue.
