Introduce yourself.
character basics.
Age: Mid 40's
Species: human
Birthplace: Scotland
Movie: Brave
Title: King of Dunbroch
Why: Because if he's left alone with the whole kingdom then utter chaos will...no, ok, the real reason is he's fun of a similar type as the Triplets, but he more so should know better and doesn't. I don't know alot of adult characters with the freedom he has as a character and it, and the movie Brave, just drew me to. Also he's been requested a few times so I figured, why not!

Facial description/mood expressions: Most often a jovial enough look is upon the boisterous kings face, but Fergus is given to dramatic swings and can frown in anger and insult in a snap ( and the latter is very easy to achieve). This works both ways, though, and just as quick his good natured look can come back. Even with his beard covering the lower half of his face, Fergus is expressive enough to show his emotion clearly through it.
Clothing style: Same proud Scottish sash of his clan that he made sure even the young princes also have, Fergus also wears the elaborate trappings of a king that are simultaneously flashy and subtle suiting the land's style. A bear skin throw/cape clearly identifies his legend as a master huntsman/marksman. Leather belt and even one across just under his sash with clasp also clearly showing his clan symbol. Kilt and customary pouch complete the outfit that is the epitome of manliness in his estimation anyway.
Body build: A rotund "mountain of a man", Fergus is stout but on now way to be taken for fat...or not very. Clearly from his waistband the castle cooking and giant portions of meat do not leave the king wanting, but he is proportionate and well fit and muscular as well. Outwardly the king is what he is inwardly, a somewhat boisterous warrior.
Any unique traits (optional) : A finely carved wooden leg where his left one was taken by an attack from the demon bear Mor'du.

Original character analysis. (Everything must be in your own words! Please be thorough.)
History: Raised the proud oldest son of a lord of the Dunbrock clan, Fergus' youth was spent training to be a warrior. From attacking straw bears as a lad to quickly following his father out on hunts, by even his early teen years Fergus was both a skilled marksman and hunter and charging out on his own on a steed to bring home dinner and stories. His own clan soon found him a like-able lad and young man, status aside, and he was included in hunting circles without fear of what "Lord Dunbrock" may say if his eldest were hurt or such.
Of course in and through these meetings, as well as in the history he learned at home, the status of the four varying clans was well known and Fergus both engaged in and happened upon gafuffles and tumbles with members of the other clans. He even gave a Dingwall lad of status as well, and a tad older than him, a sound punch after a scuffle and bragged on it for days.
Some wondered, even amongst warring clans, at the young Dunbrock heir's short fuse fighting.
Yet just when they began to view it a problem, both good and bad pulled Fergus' attention from such lighthearted tumbles for fame.
Firstly, the good was his meeting a very pretty young bairn by the name of Elinor. He soon became a very insistent presence to both her family and the maid herself in claiming her hand. Of course the lass seemed hesitant, but Fergus pushed past both manners and older brother to cultivate a friendship with her. Soon enough marriage was arranged, but most important Elinor didn't seem to mind too much.
Of course there was the customary competition to be had to secure the lass' hand, but Fergus made quick work of it and any other potential suitors who even got it into their heads Elinor was meant for anyone but him.
He gained much from his fathers inheritance when he passed, all but being the son of a very near up Lord, yet no king or prince yet. Still he had a castle to bring his bride home to and for the two of them to start out in.
Soon bad would come to demand maturity of him, though, as invaders sieged upon the divided Scottish lands. They would never be beat back by each Lord doing his best but upon his own land, Fergus could see this, and so he he swallowed pride and rode out on a crucial mission. Unite the clans to save the whole of the land. Speaking to Dingwall was the hardest but soon all four lords united to win victory.
They swallowed pride of their own and acknowledged leadership skill, making Fergus king for his noble deeds.
A princess was soon born to the happy couple and Fergus very much so let the wee girl wrap him around her finger. Anything Merida asked for was given bar her mother's absolute refusal; and on one outing when Merida turned seven, not even that could stop his giving her a bright white archery bow for her very own use. She missed on her first shot, but still Fergus saw potential in his biased way. Merida skipped off to fetch it and soon came back chattering of Wisps. Fergus, a sceptic, remained such.
Suddenly, onto this picnic scene burst the legendary and infamouse bear, even at that time, Mor'du. As Elinor and Merida sped off to safety, Fergus stayed and fought the bear to give them chance to escape.
He survived the fight, thanks to the skill and devotion of his servants, but was not left unscathed. His left leg had been severed during the fight with the bear, a trophy Mor'du took but which Fergus, a very firm avenger, would avenge.
The king's fame grew all the more for his having now survived the unsurvivable Mor'du, and he took great pride in retelling the tale to all who would listen.
Three sons later born to the couple, triplets, Hamish, Hubert and Harris, became his main victims once the boys grew old enough to be made to sit still.
It was during one such family dinner/legend telling time, after Merida was good enough to aid in the rendition, that his eldest own fate was thrust at her. The clans had peace between them, but more could be done, and a marriage of the princess to one of the other lord's sons would safeguard for future peace.
Fergus knew of this plan of course, little escaped the king, and most certainly that which his queen did. He knew from the first hearing of it; Merida would not like this, and she didn't. Fergus let the girls trying to come to terms on their own, and then later went to comfort Elinor.
For all his tries at humor and serious help, trouble still lay; yet Elinor took care of it as she always did, and next morning "The Presentation of the Suitors" began.
All seem to be going well enough at first, but for Fergus' halting inability to keep to proper form, but Elinor saved him in the end, as was her and their custom in a way. Only shortly, though as the leaders of the other three clans soon began arguing amongst themselves (peace had happened so long ago after all).
At first Fergus held to the form of a king; yet when the triplets unseen continued the fight, he joined in with full force as well. At least until Elinor regained control of all of them once again.
The proceedings commenced, and Merida seem to show surprising enthusiasm as she proclaimed Archery to be the trial for her would be suitors. The reason was soon shown, as she planned rebellion of the highest magnitude, even Fergus was shocked as she stepped forward to defend her own hand and rights.
Understandably the clan leaders were even more boiling over than usual. Elinor and Fergus soon got them pacified, though. Mainly Elinor, Fergus just amused and bragged on his tale of Mor'du yet again.
He's even missed the fact that Merida had left and returned with a cake made by a witch, one she gave to her mother. He just noticed vaguely when Elinor stumbled up the stairs, helped by their daughter, to retire and rest. He did halt his tale telling to inquire if she was alright, but she waved off any concern and told him to "go back to avenging his leg", which he did, explaining to the lords yet again exactly how he would kill Mor'du if the bear ever dared show his face again.
Fergus was entertained his own self and kept the lords captivated in boredom for quite a while longer, cycling between telling of his revenge and why he was planning it. Both stories all the lords had heard enough times already.
Suddenly, his ever attune ears caught an unmistakable sound, the roar of a bear! The lords heard nothing, but Fergus was adamant, there was a bear in the castle! He led them off to go find it.
Sound after sound he followed, and still the lords were sure they were on a goose chase, until his over exuberance almost cost Maudie injury. She was shaken by something other than that, though, and soon enough spat out what it was, a bear!
With a cry of triumph in being right as well as all his revengeful fervor coming on, Fergus charged after the sounds yet again to take care of this bear. It dodged here and there in a way somewhat surprising, but still Fergus would not relent (and had no idea it was only his wee sons causing a diversion).
Finally, the chase led to the roof, and the lords' assurance fell again as Dingwall skeptically asked if it sprouted wings, and the other lords joined in with their disappointed mocking. Disappointed as well, Fergus suggested they all just go back inside, before finding they couldn't as the door was locked.
The king, three clans lords and their three sons and assorted others of theirs debated what to do now and finally came upon a lacking in decorum but unavoidable way off the roof. Ah well, his servants knew well enough to never bring it up, even if any of them had discovered.
Back at the castle, Fergus debated what went wrong and was still adamant he had not been wrong and a bear had been in and then almost magically disappeared from the castle.
The lords at first argued him over this, but soon their concerns turned to the primary cause for disquiet, that their sons had still been disgraced and a decision had to be made.
With their anger riled and their insistence quickly turning to one too many insulting comments on Merida, Fergus answered back with just as much fervor and soon years of peace seemed threatened in one instant and all out war between the clans happened once more right within the main hall of Castle Dunbrock!
Tables were made fortifications and the four sects would have gone at it come conclusion or end of the world had Merida not strolled through their midst once more, all calm and composed the same way her mother often was. Fergus was as shocked, if not more so, than the others and especially as Merida went on to both remind the lords as well as her own father why peace had come in the first place and take up responsibility for her own duties in keeping peace as well.
Her answer would have seemed a threat in itself as she spoke of breaking tradition once more, yet she spoke of it this time, in clear terms and with backing up reasoning, claiming Elinor's approval upon the matter as well.
Whether or not this last part was true, it worked, and a conclusion seeming satisfying to both the three clan lords and Merida herself (as well as the other three heirs) was reached.
After stating his pride and surprise, Fergus next had to curb his entire wine stock from being devoured by the lords as Merida next proposed a toast (what had got into the lass?!); this accomplished though, and after a drink or two himself (alright more than two), Fergus went to tell Elinor of Merida's shocking decision, since he still felt she had just made up all that being in conference with the queen stuff.
He found a room in shambles and only tattered clothing and came to the horrible conclusion that something had happened to his queen. Tearing through the castle even more fervently than on the bear hunt, he soon came to the tapestry room and found Merida as well as a bear.
Believing them the source of all evil, it was not leap for him to figure out (wrongly) what had happened to his queen and he both defended Merida and set upon the creature to avenge his wife. It soon broke from the room and Merida tried to stop him, pleading something of it being Elinor and there having been a witch who gave her the sell, but Fergus found it all rot and simply thought his daughter stressed from everything.
He locked her for safe keeping in the tapestry room and entrusted Maudie with the key, setting out with his wolfhounds and the lords in tow after the bear. They cornered it by the Stones of Callanish and Fergus prepared to take his revenge when Merida, somehow having got out, stopped her father's sword with a shot from her bow and stood to defend the bear.
Both through his daugther's skill with a sword, as well as just his shock at the whole thing, Fergus was knocked back and three bear cubs also rushed in to stop him, ones Merida identified as the boys.
Shocking as this also was, it had further back up to get Fergus to begin to come to believe what Merida was saying, yet just as things seemed they may settle, Mor'du burst upon the scene once more.
Fergus had no hesitation in knowing what this bear deserved and setting the clan leaders to attacking him, of course charging in as well and wanting to be the main one to have at and done with the monster.
Mor'du simply swat the king aside, as well as all members of the clans that rushed in. He charged straight for Merida and Elinor broke past those holding her down to rush in and defend her daughter. In the battle that ensued it was really Elinor that defeated the legendary bear by killing him when she caused one of the stoned to break off onto him, killing the bear and freeing the ancient prince's spirit.
Still this didn't fix all of Fergus' problems, and he now faced one he'd never thought on, that he might lose his queen (and even perhaps his sons) forever to the shape of a bear. It was too ironically horrible to think on, yet Elinor's fate lay with Merida, as the one to call up the spell.
She tried her best with a fixed bit of tapestry, yet still it looked bleak and only when Fergus truly believe all lost did his daughter's tears over the same break the spell. Over flowing in joy, Fergus shot over to embrace and kiss his queen, as well as gather his children in an embrace when even the boys changed back and rushed over birthday suited and all.
The family regrouped at the castle and next day went to wish the clans a happy farewell with peace still up between them, and but for having to fetch the triplets after they stowed aboard one of the ships, Fergus expected his life to now settle into one of quiet and continuing to rule a quiet kingdom. Yet next morning he found himself upon not his bed but an odd and poorly built one and in a strange land.
Ambitions: Be seen as a good king and second good man. Rule is kingdom fairly and right, even if he's not quite sure how all times. Have his children be safe and grow to be happy in their fate. Always have Elinor near. Have a legend that lives on to surpass Mor'du's in both genuine wish and an bit of spite even after the bear's "defeat".
Strengths & abilities: Skilled on Sword, Archery, Club, All weapons of his time and some guessed at! Also possible greatest debater in his land and known to stick to a point.
Flaws: Stubborn. Very prone to jump to wrong conclusions. Prideful and bad about believing either of previous. Argumentative. Somewhat immature and unrefined. Also doesn't recognize these traits in himself. Won't take orders from hardly anyone but his wife ( and Merida's becoming more likely too as she becomes so "like her mother")
Likes: Tales of bravery he tells. People listening to them. Thrill of the fight! Fighting in general! Trophies (his). Mostly though, his family.
Dislikes: Mor'du!...Being fussed over. Being contradicted b anyone but Elinor ( not that he's overly fond of that one either). Major trouble in the kingdom. Any threat to his family. A doubt upon his or his clans worth similarly. Overly fancy affairs.
Fears: Harm upon his family. A fall in appearances of his he fears nothing. That if he did nothing Mor'du's would take over his kingdom (paranoid as it is especially with the former prince's death). Other unfounded things. Is superstitious so anything from bed time tales of old.
What makes this character unique: This whole family is perhaps a new one for Disney royalty, and Fergus a far cry from the regal kings of other movies. He is childish and somewhat petty , yet still manages to be a good king and one who is for the most part beloved. So he both fits and breaks tradition as well.
