Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's Lyle, and I wished upon a star from being friends with a magical Sage. My other imaginary friends include Cousin Algernon, Maleficent and Ratigan!
Milo and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: Milo James Thatch
Age: 33
Species: Human
Birthplace: Beaumont, TX, USA
Movie: Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Custom title: Discoverer of Atlantis
Why: I feel that I've kinda taken on a sort of monopoly on villains for the moment, and I think it's time I change things up a little. Actually, when I first heard of this site from Sage, I wanted to be Milo, but just before I joined Milo was taken. Epic sad face. Funny thing about Milo though, he's probably the one Disney character I feel closest to. We're both enthusiastic scholars with diminished physiques and large foreheads and are certainly suited for nothing else. But I digress....
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Milo's hair is a medium brown, which he barely keeps under control. He just kinda lets it flop around naturally, not really bothering to comb it in any direction, giving him the "unkempt nerd" look.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Milo has what some people like to call a ‘rubber face’. His face always matches whatever his mood is, sometimes in rather odd and unexpected ways. He’s not very good at hiding his feelings, because they tend to naturally express themselves on his face. So, naturally, Milo would not be a very good poker player, because he could never keep a straight face during a game.
Clothing style: Milo prefers to dress both professionally and for the occasion, at the same time. His shirt may look all spiffy and starched, especially with his green vest and red bow tie (‘cause bow ties are cool!), but it moves comfortably, even in rugged terrain and harsh weather. Even his khaki pants are built to withstand wear and tear and his boots are designed to survive the harshest environments while still looking fashionable. Also, Milo never goes anywhere without his dorky coke-bottle glasses.
Body build: No one describes Milo better than his wife, Kida: “You are a scholar, are you not? Judging from your diminished physique and large forehead, you are suited for nothing else!”
Any unique traits (optional): Milo has a bad habit of ‘spacing out’ when he’s trying to think, to the point of he could be in actual danger and not realize it until someone literally starts pulling him out of the way.
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
Following the discovery of Atlantis, Milo discovered several new qualities within himself: leadership, courage, bravery amongst many others. However, even though Milo knows he can ‘take charge’ of a situation, most of the time he’s still an awkward, socially inept stick who finds himself at the end of a rude joke.
History:
In 1905, Milo relocated to Washington D.C., where he was given the position of janitor at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. He remained in this post until 1914, when he resigned after numerous stonewalled attempts to have an expedition funded to find the lost city of Atlantis. On the day of his resignation, he was unexpectedly taken to meet the reclusive multi-billionaire, Preston Whitmore, an old friend of Thaddeus Thatch. Whitmore reveals Thaddeus’ final discovery, The Shepherd’s Journal, a map to Atlantis, and informs Milo of an expedition already to set sail for Atlantis, the only person missing being “an expert in jibberish.”
The trip begins disastrously, as the Ulysses, a submarine designed to take the entire crew to Atlantis is destroyed by the fabled Leviathan, which was discovered to be a machine of Atlantean design. Milo and a skeleton crew of 38 others managed to escape during the attack. The casualty list of those lost aboard the Ulysses was eventually totaled at 162 hands lost.
Milo did not initially fit in with the other explorers on the trip, being the socially awkward egghead, but after some time he did manage to make some friends. After nearly two weeks of travel, the expedition suffered another misfortune, a major fire that ended up destroying several of their remaining vehicles, and an additional four deaths. However, this misfortune had one small silver lining: the discovery of Atlantis.
Ambushed by a tribe of Atlanteans, Milo managed to communicate with them, eventually granting them an audience with the King of Atlantis. The meeting did not go well, but the expedition was allowed one day to resupply before leaving the city. In this time, Milo was kidnapped by the king’s daughter, Kidagakash, or Kida, who lead him on a tour of the city while they got to know each another. During their travels, Milo discovered that no one in the city could read Atlantean or even remember much of their past culture. Later, Kida lead him on a swim to where numerous writings were found and Milo discovered that a mysterious source, known as the Heart of Atlantis, was responsible for keeping the city alive.
Upon returning, Milo became the unwilling part in the team leader’s (Cmdr. Rourke) true purpouse in coming to Atlantis: the recovery of The Heart of Atlantis. Rourke killed the king and Kida was ‘sacrificed’ to the crystal. After further terrorization, Rourke left Milo and several other crew members in Atlantis after taking Kida and the Heart and destroying the only bridge off Atlantis. Milo activated several ancient Atlantean aircraft and with several Atlanteans went off in pursuit of Rourke. This course of action resulted in a air to air battle between Milo and his friends and Cmdr. Rourke and the other explorers. The battle was abruptly ended after Milo caused the destruction of Rourke and his Gyro-Evac, and also caused the eruption of a volcano.
The crystal was rushed back to Atlantis, where Kida was released and an energy shield prevented the destruction of the city. Milo’s fellow crewmates later left for the surface, but Milo chose to stay behind with the Atlanteans to be with Kida and assist with rebuilding the Atlantean culture.
Several months later, Milo’s crewmates returned to Atlantis along with Preston Whitmore, in order to recruit his help with several problems occurring on the surface believed to be related to Atlantean technology. Milo and Kida agreed to assist, and helped with several major Atlantean discoveries. The last discovery was an Atlantean weapon, known on the surface world as Gungnir, or the Spear of Odin. Milo and crew eventually recovered the spear and brought it back to Atlantis, where Kida used it to bring Atlantis back up to the surface.
