Real vs. Movies

This message was sent to all members as a PM, but I thought it best to repeat it here:
There is a tendency on the board to regard the Disney characters we play as fictional characters who exist in movies and television shows. I feel the need to make the WoD position on that clearer.
Even if your character comes from the present, they are not allowed to know other members as fictional characters. As much as possible, every one of our characters hails from the same multi-verse, though there are of necessity some parallel universes in it. Allow me to name some specific examples.
Sleeping Beauty takes place in the 14th century of the same world in which Lady and the Tramp takes place in the 19th century in which Bolt takes place in the 21st century. We will stick with this model whenever possible, creating alternate realities only where necessary; DuckTales and Robin Hood take place in a parallel universe of anthropomorphic animals, Big Hero 6 takes place on an alternate Earth with different geography, and Treasure Planet exists in an alternate universe filled with Etherium instead of space. In none of these worlds do the characters get to watch movies featuring our member or potential member characters. Even the books in which these characters were originally created can not be referenced. Your character can't be a fan of the novel Notre Dame de Paris unless it can be passed off as a history book, because Quasi and friends are real people at WoD.
The only exceptions I can think of are as follows:
Woody and his gang were featured on a TV series in the 50s, and your characters may be aware of that program. However, Woody is not actually that character; he is one of a thousand toys made in the image of that fictional character. Likewise, Buzz has his own series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and the Buzz you play, if you choose him, is either that space ranger or a toy made to look like him.
Bolt also had his own series, which fictionalized his life. Your characters, if from the right era, may recognize Bolt and Penny, but they know only their fictitious adventures.
If you can think of any other characters that warrant an exception, feel free to bring them up to me.
Now, a member recently mentioned Sherlock Holmes in a post, a character with a significant connection to a Disney movie. Our policy on Holmes is the same as that of Holmesian fandom worldwide, namely that he is a real person, and his adventures are historical fact. Therefore, it is perfectly all right to reference him in a thread, as long as he's not called fictional. You can even mention one of the multiple film versions; just as movies have been made about other historical persons from Columbus to Nixon, they have been made about Sherlock Holmes featuring any number of actors.
Similarly, Pocahontas, as a historical person in any universe, might be familiar to some characters, though it is doubtful they would recognize her face. Anyone who studied Greek myths has heard of Hercules, and Wart, as King Arthur, is a well-known figure.
That said, it is all right for tourists and cast members to recognize our heroes from movies, merchandise, and theme park attractions. There is a Peter Pan ride in Fantasyland for all to see, there are movies played in the hotels, and there are tee shirts with mice, ducks, and princesses for sale everywhere. Your characters may encounter these things and act accordingly.
To sum up, the characters we create are not fictional characters transported from their movies to a theme park, they are real people (animals, robots, etc.) transported from their homes to our world.
Forgive the length of this message, but I wanted to be precise. I hope that makes things clear. If not, any questions are welcome.
