(SEE THANKSGIVING POTLUCK SIGN UP)
Title based on the quote:
Bob: We're always united, against, uh, uh, the forces of, uh--.
Helen: Pigheadedness?
Bob: Uh, I was gonna say, "Evil."
It was finally November 22, Thanksgiving Day. Helen Parr was going to have to be more than flexible today. At first, the mother of three was just going to go for something simple given that it was the first Thanksgiving where she was fully reunited with her family. Yet after having met so many friends along the way here, she had decided to plan out a Thanksgiving potluck to celebrate. It was her first time actually doing this kind of “neighborly” thing in a long time, given all the moving, but she decided to try it out to see how it went.
Granted, some of her friends were from countries that were outside of celebrating such a thing as Thanksgiving, but she made it a potluck to celebrate togetherness rather than the historical accuracy of the holiday. Plus, people being from outside of the country might make the potluck dinner a lot more.. diverse! In the end, it was a chance for everyone to really come together, which was what Helen was all about!
Thankfully, Imelda was also on board with the idea and helped her reserve a ballroom at the hotel that the Riveras stayed at, The Grand Floridian. Meanwhile, Héctor assisted with the marketing aspect earlier this week. He wrote up an advertisement on paper - who would have thought he had such nice handwriting? - and several copies of it were made from the copy machines (much to his surprise), which he passed out to all the kids he knew to make them productive in spreading the news.
Back in their hotel room of the Polynesian, the super-powered housewife was stretching herself around in the kitchen, finishing her sweet potato casserole while the turkey was cooking in the oven. She baked the sweet potato casserole first, of course, because baking turkey would take forever! "I dunno... I think I should maybe add in some collard greens at least.. I just don't feel comfortable havin' a dinner with just pure meat! What if no one else brings anything for-?" The southern mother mused pensively, turning her neck to check on the turkey in the oven while she was putting on the cinammon crumb coat on top of the sweet potato casserole, when suddenly she felt a faint breeze in the air. At this point, Helen already knew the difference between Violet in the room and Dash being in the room. "Dash! Stop eating all the marshmellows!" Helen knew exactly that it was her older son trying to eat the marshmellows that she needed to use for the top of the sweet potato casserole. "What do ya think, Bob?" Helen asked her husband on the advice of the collard greens then narrowed her eyebrows upon catching Bob encouraging Dash with the marshmellows. "Honey! Don't encourage him!" It was bad enough when Bob did that. Helen waved off getting the advice from Bob, already stretching her arms to fetch the vegetables that they needed from the fridge. "Ah, just forget it. I'm makin' it anyways.." The southern mother decided to make collard greens, but two separate ones. Plain collard greens for the vegetarians, and her traditional southern dish cooked with chicken broth, crispy bacon, sauteed onion, ham, and garlic.
While she was busying herself with cooking the two different types of collard greens, stretching over her neck every now and then to check on the turkey, Helen had half a mind to check on the temperature when suddenly Jack Jack floated in to her arms, causing her to stop what she was doing. "Jack Jack?! Aw sweetie, I love you, too...but mommy really needs you to stay out of the kitchen, okay?" Helen nuzzled Jack Jack as she spoke. "VI! I need you to watch Jack-Jack!" She called for her daughter to please watch over him and keep him away from the kitchen while she would take the turkey out to inspect the time and to add more broth to keep it as moist as possible. She really didn't want to have Jack-Jack copy the oven and self-combust. If the turkey were to be burnt up because her baby decided to self-combust, well.. that would probably be the end of any get togethers with the Parrs. "Dash, help me take the sweet potato casserole over there, sweetie..And see if you can start settin' up the table while you're there?" Helen asked with a smirk, hoping Dash would remember how to set up the table the formal way that she taught him a while back. They were having guests over!
After Helen was able to pass Jack-Jack over to Violet, she was able to check on the turkey and provide the final broth over to make sure it was moist. "Looks like the turkey's ready! Hey honey, can ya help me bring the turkey over? I'm gonna head over to make sure the decoration gets done!" Helen asked Bob with a smile before taking Jack-Jack from Violet's arms and nodding at her daughter to follow her back to the Grand Floridian ballroom. The cast members decorated most of it, thankfully, but Helen offered to finish it off faster by offering to stretch up into the corners of the ceiling to hang up the final decorations a lot faster than them having to use a ladder. There. The decorations weren't so over the top. It was simple, but to the point. Just the way she was. Before Helen could make sure that Dash had the utensils placed the right way on the tables, the auburn haired woman dressed in pink turned her attention over to the door opening. "Oh! Hey! Glad you can make it!" Helen welcomed the guests that would start trickling in with a warm smile, completely acting as if everything was normal and the chaos that ensued earlier did not happen. That family chaos was actually normal for her, and the undercover super wouldn't have it any other way.
(You don't have to post about making it, I just did because Helen wouldn't be Helen without a little chaos in her family xD)
