Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's Neo, and I wished upon a star from here. My other imaginary friends include Jake, Shere Khan, and many others. Corey and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: The Manticore, or Corey
Age: Over 1000 years old
Species: Manticore
Birthplace: Unknown
Movie: Onward
Custom title: The Manticore
Why'd you pick this character?Quite a few things. I enjoyed the modern fantasy theme of the movie, and I enjoyed Corey’s character. Being a former adventurer and quest giver who lost her way, only to get her spark back, I figured she would be fun to play in the setting. Also, I played a lot of Dungeons and Dragons, so that's another reason why.
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Corey sports a dark brown afro that almost resembles a lion’s mane. She sports lighter brown fur that goes well with it.
Facial description/mood/expressions: She sports a lion muzzle and a brown nose. Her eyes are light brown in color.
Expresion wise, she is capable of many things. Due to taking back her life, she is more eager and brave looking. When angry, she can be downright frightening due to her sharp teeth. But when she isn’t excited for adventure or snarling at someone, she usually keeps a normal expression on.
Clothing style: There are two styles one might see Corey in. The first, and the one she tends to be in the most when adventuring, is her armor. It appears to be dark red in appearance with a yellow pattern on the chest, and sports spikes on the shoulders. She tends to wear this armor often now that she rebuilt the tavern.
Though she enjoys the armor, she is still okay with wearing normal clothing. One she tends to wear is simply a red shirt and green pants, although the colors can vary depending on what she feels. She is still a civilized person, despite her desire for adventure.
Body build: Corey, due to her years of adventuring and fighting, has a strong build. She possesses a long scorpion tail and large leathery bat wings, all of which are standard traits to her race. She uses all of her given traits, and is quite a force to be reckoned with as a result.
Any unique traits (optional): Corey sports two different tattoos on her arms. The left arm shows a dragon, the resulting creation of a curse she often encounters. The right arm shows her sword, which is what she used to defeat curses. She doesn’t bother to hide them. Nor does she want to.
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
Eager, adventurous, brave, dangerous, scary...all of these words can be used to describe the legend that is The Manticore. Having been adventuring for half of her life, only to fall into a state of dullness, Corey had just recently gotten her desire back. As a result, she is always ready to tackle a grand adventure, and isn’t afraid to throw herself at danger just to get it. She is a warrior at heart, and shows this by always keeping her sword at her side, regardless of what she is doing.
Besides adventuring, Corey is a great business owner. She had years of experience in running a successful tavern, and knows how to adjust in order to satisfy her customers. Although said changes made her forget about her previous life, she eventually found a balance in both her business and her desire. Though being the owner of a tavern means she has plenty of stories to tell, and is always ready to pick up rumors and pass them along to anyone who is interested in an adventure.
Yet, despite her dangerous interest, Corey is a kind person at heart. Even with the tavern’s reopening, she still enjoys making people happy. She also has taken a liking to children, as they are always in awe at her stories and how she tells them. She likes to be social with others, and isn’t afraid to teach someone new skills. She is also easily impressed by heroic feats, such as determination and cleverness. Just don’t get on her bad side. There is a reason she had to rebuild her tavern.
History:
During the age of magic, when the world was still young, The Manticore started off as a simple adventurer who desired to explore the world and make a name for herself. As she undertook each quest, she grew more and more confident and capable. Groups often traveled with her, knowing well of her bravery and strength. And as the years passed, her legend grew. The Manticore was a name of legend, of a warrior who could best anything that could be thrown at her. Armed with her mighty blade known as the Curse Crusher, she was far capable of slaying any curse that was brought on her. This was why many young wizards often sought her out.
As the age of magic waned due to the rise of electricity, The Manticore started to settle down. She still went on adventures, but she maintained her own tavern when she was free. Often, she would see a group of adventurers who were itching to explore. And all she needed to do was point them to the right cave. Her experience of exploring the world made her aware of every legend that had an artifact at the end, and people came wanting that information.
But, that time started to end. As the years passed, less and less people came to her tavern. No more were there interests in magic and adventure. Instead, elves were driving self-driving machines and pixies were walking instead of flying. The Manticore thought she would lose the tavern. And yet, she kept with the times. As the modern age came closer, The Manticore redesigned her tavern again and again. First, it was a pub for gatherings. Then, she turned it into a drive thru. Finally, she decided to turn it into a family restaurant. The kids were still adventurous in a way, so why not let them have fun?
To appear more civilized, The Manticore had to change herself. She adjusted her hair, making it look more neat. She stored her armor and donned more fitting clothing for the age and for her business. And her sword, she soon sold to a pawn shop in order to acquire some extra money. She forgot what she loved to do, and settled into the normal life as a restaurant owner. She wasn’t aware of what she lost, even though she plastered it everywhere in the tavern. Even the mascot was a twisted image of what she once was, and what she is now.
All that changed when two boys and their half-resurrected father walked in. Corey, as she called herself now, was used to tabletop gamers coming in demanding to get her to go back to her ways. When Barley wanted to see the map, Corey refused, believing that they shouldn’t go on adventures. But to her surprise, it was the younger and more meek Ian who convinced him. With his passion, he called her out on what she became, and pointed out that she herself was once adventurous and dangerous. His words got to her. In an instant, reality crashed down as she realized that this wasn’t what she wanted to do. She still wanted to be an adventurer, to encounter danger and take risks. She saw her tavern, and became disgusted by what it became. And when that mascot came over and started to play around with her state, she snapped.
The mascot suit was burnt to a crisp. She set her tavern aflame. The brothers and all the patrons of the restaurant fled in fear. And it took her a few minutes to realize what happened. The fire department arrived on scene, as did the police. Questions had to be answered, and Corey was still in a state of shock over her mid-life crisis. But as she was answering questions, another elf, the mother of the two who opened her eyes, came. She was seeking her children, and Corey was quick to reassure her that everything was okay. She told them about the map, she told them about the gem, she told them about the curse….
She forgot to tell them about the curse!
This worried the mother, and as much as Corey wanted to help, the police still wanted to interrogate her. However, to Corey’s surprise, the mother, Laurel, tricked the police and was able to transport her away so they could save the two brothers. Instantly, Corey took a liken to the mother. Along the way, Corey revealed what the curse was, and explained that the only way to slay it was with her sword. Which meant a trip to the pawn shop. The goblin was greedy, but Corey was able to paralyse her using her tail. With her sword back, she was eager to get right into action.
But the car crashed due to a pixie who was just getting back to flying. They had only a few hours to spare, yet Laurel was able to convince The Manticore to get back to flying. With Laurel on her back, Corey flew right to where she knew the gem was kept. It wouldn’t be in a cave, but in a fountain. A fountain that was right in front of the school, and was slated to be demolished. The boy’s travel led them right back home, and Barley found where the gem was located. But the guardian curse was active, the school was demolished, and a concrete dragon now hunted the brothers.
With a roar, The Manticore charged in. She cut off one of the golem’s wings, and swooped in to land a blow to kill the beast. But she was blindsided by the sudden swing of its tail, and she found herself on the ground with the wind knocked out of her. Laurel, to Corey’s surprise, took up the Curse Crusher and rushed head first into battle. It was a battle of epic proportions as mother and her spell-casting son worked together to slay the beast. And in the end, Barley was able to see his father one last time.
The story that happened inspired many. Those that witnessed it realized that there was more to the past than what they remembered. Those who heard of it rushed in to witness the sight of the battle. After Corey was able to get the insurance for her tavern, she decided to rebuild it on a hill that wasn’t far from where it was first built. Instead of making it back into what it was, she merged the old and new. The tavern would still be open for families, but there would be no gimmicks. Instead, the tavern would be a place where servers brought out food while being dressed in armor and where children would be able to participate in fun activities that brought the adventure in them. And Corey wouldn’t manage things in the backroom, no. She would be up front, boasting tales of her adventures and being true to herself. The kids loved her stories, and the adults enjoyed the history.
The Manticore wanted it to stay that way.
