The World Showcase was one of the more exciting parts of the parks in Alice's opinion. You could travel the world without even leaving the park- which was convenient for Alice and those like her, who couldn't leave the parks. Of course, the UK pavilion was Alice's favorite. It was a friendly piece of home, that she could return to when she liked. But Alice also liked to explore the other pavilions on occasion, and Japan's was particularly nice.
As she walked past the pagoda at the entrance, waving amicably to passersby, Alice noticed something different. A sign in front of the Tokyo Dining restaurant stated that "karaoke" would be happening. She didn't know what that was, but she could hear what sounded like singing coming from inside the restaurant. Intrigued and excited at the thought of a new experience, Alice rushed up the steps to the restaurant.
Inside, part of the restaurant was sectioned off into a karaoke room, with a music player, microphone, and video screen. Currently, one man was enthusiastically belting out "Friend Like Me", with a small audience enjoying the performance, some of whom were poring over a provided song list. A few of the guests looked toward Alice with surprise as she approached- the English girl was a bit out-of-place among the Japanese decor of the restaurant. They seemed pleased to see her, though, and one of them handed her the list of songs to look over. It didn't take long for Alice to grasp the concept. "So, this is what 'car a oak' is," Alice said, garnering gentle chuckles from the guests before being corrected. She took a seat and started looking over the list of songs, scanning each choice thoughtfully. There were many songs to choose from- not just Disney songs, but other types of popular songs as well. There was even a selection of songs in Japanese, fitting the setting. Nearby, there was a signup sheet where people could put their name and choice of song.
As "Friend Like Me" ended, Alice clapped appreciatively. "Bravo!" she exclaimed. She looked around at those gathered as the singer returned to his place, feeling a bit nervous about the prospect of singing herself. Alice was used to being the subject of public curiosity, but a performance like this was a different matter entirely. Well, it wouldn't have been her turn yet anyway, so she had time to decide. She looked up expectantly, as the next singer approached the microphone.
