Barley always enjoyed walking around Fantasyland. However true to life it was for this world's history, it held a lot of recognizable things from The United Realms past and gave a sense of home.
That was why he felt the Fairy Tale Treasures store might be the perfect place to continue his mission of gathering up and making a makeshift Quests of Yore game. The ambient music from their speakers, while low, was befitting of Quests of Yore even!
Sure the actual game and game pieces and cards weren't here, but Barley saw enough figures in stores about the Park to give him the idea that he could get something up that would be workable.
Even without his Manual here, he also felt he could recall enough of the monsters to scribble on some note-cards and make due.
The Elf entered Fairy Tale Treasures only hoping to find a few more figures to add to his collection and planned up game. Picking up a Mushu figure he pondered its Monk capabilities. Something about it seemed to work.
"Another one down" he proclaimed to himself before becoming aware that the lute music he was hearing actually seemed to be coming from behind him instead of the speakers, as he had thought when entering.
Turning, he glanced around until his pointy ears directed his eyes to a low shelf.
Though Barley still planned to buy the Mushu figure, it was dropped as he spotted the game, out of its packaging even, sitting on the low shelf. The front said Jumanji, an odd name, not quite fantasy, but the woodcarvings all along the box were of fairies and a wizard holding a staff and such.
Barley had thought he would just have to scribble on a Candy Land board or such when the time came to find a board for his Quests of Yore game, but this was perfect!
He of all people should have really known it was Too Perfect, but he willfully ignored things like the lute music stopping when he picked up the game. A small inspection showed that it hinged open, to the full board no doubt, but try as he might, Barley couldn't get the flaps to open.
This hinted at the board being defective but...it was just so perfect he figured he could always gently pry it open after he got back with it and went to set up the game. Determined that nothing would ruin his plan, Barley retrieved the Mushu figurine and walked with both the board and figure to the check-out counter.
As he did so he kicked aside a glass bottle of some kind.
Warning Number Two (three?) had been when the human-bean girl behind the counter said they didn't sell Jumanji...something about not having the license to it. In the end she didn't sell it to him, as it wasn't their inventory, but didn't stop Barley leaving with the game, though he could tell she really wanted to.
"Just...be careful", she'd called as he left.
Odd.
Deciding that still within Fantasyland was the best place to set his game, Barley jotted some quick Game Master's notes back at his hotel room (if Ian came by he would shield his work and say it was a surprise) and before long he felt he was ready.
Posters were soon plastered up everywhere he could think to put them announcing the Table Top Gaming session just under the shadow of Cinderella's Castle. He felt like for those who didn't know what Class they wanted to be in, Wizard, Ranger etc, he would just assign or take preferences and if it was a party of all Rangers sometimes that made for an interesting Campaign so there shouldn't be any disputes too early on.
Maybe once he threw some of his threats at them! Though Barley was generally known as a pretty fair Quest Master.
If Ian took him up on his invite to play, his little brother knew some of Barley's favorite threats from the deck as it were so might know what Barley had scribbled and saved on a few note cards, but that was a challenge Barley was willing to take.
"Welcome Adventurer!", he greeted...honestly the first person who walked by even before they said if they were there for the game or not.
<<OOC:Jumanji was thrown out as a descriptor more, I know, but Barley and I took it and ran with it. Same concept (of the first) threats will come out of the game but players will also have the skill set (just not high level) of their chosen DnD Class. Don't worry about hopping in late, you'll just join the center of the action wherever that is on the board and of course in the Parks >>
