Age: 70(And still lookin' good!!)
Species: Human
Birthplace: Presumably Bristol
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides(2011)
Title:
Black-hearted Blackbeard
Why: So, I finally got to watch On Stranger Tides. It was better then I thought it would be, but it just wasn't the same without all those other characters...
Anyway, Blackbeard seemed like a likable character, despite me going "Oh my gosh! What a jerk!" in the end. Also, I've only watched the movie three times! Three! Why am I apping for him so soon!? Blackbeard may end up like poor Maestro Forte before him(muse died, or coffee hype died down in this case), but he
struck me as a fairly fun character to play as, and when you mix that with coffee surging through your veins, vola! I'm probably going to think to myself "Why did I do this?" afterward, but boy oh boy!

Character appearance[/ul]
Facial description/mood expressions: Blackbeard's facial expressions, as well as his deep, raspy voice, are fairly easy to read. He often appears quite calm at times, though one can easily tell whether or not he is having fun. Or is extremely ticked off. As for Blackbeard's facial description? He is definitely not gaunt. In fact, Blackbeard is actually fairly decent looking for someone his age. 70 years old, but still has a strong and menacing face.
Clothing style: Blackbeard is often seen wearing a black captains coat, black boots, pants, a shirt, vest, and black leather belts. He is also seen wearing a large, black, feathered, tricorn hat. You could say that Blackbeard's wardrobe mostly consists of black clothing to match his personality.
Body build: Despite his age(70), Edward Teach's body is in fairly good shape. Normal, masculine build, and can easily handle a sword on his own at the age he is now. He stands to at least 5' 9 inches tall, and has fairly tan skin color.
Any unique traits (optional) : Often has lit fuses tied into his beard which he often uses to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. Also, "Redbeard" or "Blondebeard" simply doesn't have the same ring to it as "Blackbeard."

Original character analysis. (Everything must be in your own words! Please be thorough.)[/ul]
Blackbeard was infamous for his cruel, black-hearted personality and was feared by many a' pirate all across the seven seas. He had a very little sense of morality and cared not for a single soul, other then himself. Edward Teach was well aware of his wickedness and was not afraid to admit that he was evil, but did not care and made no effort to change his ways. Torturing, murdering, all of those terrible things he did; he enjoyed every last moment of it. He does what he does without regret or fear of the afterlife.
He may have had a small bit of sentimentality toward Angelica, his 'daughter', whom he admits was the only good thing he ever did in his life. He may have loved her, but if he did, it wasn't enough for him to risk his life to save hers. Blackbeard cared more about himself and is quite willing to sacrifice Angelica for his own, personal gain.
Being the sadistic, black-hearted pirate that he was, Blackbeard enjoyed torturing his prisoners, throwing them into a large cage that hung behind his ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, and using said cage to burn his victims alive.
History:
Not much was known of Blackbeard's past, though it is said that he was born in Bristol, England under the name of Edward Teach. Even though no one knows if this was his true name, many believe it to be.
Edward Teach was presumably born into a wealthy and respectable family, and went to sea at an early age. He served on an English privateer ship during the Queen Anne's War and fought against the Spanish and French armies while sailing from Jamaica. The war ended in 1714, and King George I withdrew all letters of marque, to which Teach found himself unemployed.
Edward Teach eventually turned to piracy and joined the crew of Captain Benjamin Hornigold, earning his trust, becoming first mate, and also being placed in charge of a sloop that had been taken as prize. Hornigold eventually retired from piracy after accepting a royal pardon from Governor Woodes Rogers. Meanwhile, off the coast of Martinique, Edward Teach captured La Concorde de Nantes, a French frigate on a slave trading voyage from Africa. Teach renamed her the Queen Anne's Revenge, and it was around this time where he became known as Blackbeard.
Teach's next battle was with the large British merchantman, the Great Allen, off the coast of St. Vincent, and the HMS Scarborough a 30-gun frigate of the British Royal Navy shortly afterward. The Great Allen was plundered, burned and left to sunk while the Scarborough escaped back to her homeport.
Blackbeard preyed upon coastal settlements of the West Indies and the Atlantic coast of North America during the next few months, plundering around forty merchant ships, sparing those that surrendered while burning those who resisted, including the Protestant Caesar, a merchant ship from Boston because of a few pirates who were hanged there.
Blackbeard then made his way into Cuban waters by the beginning of 1718, teaming up with fellow pirate, Major Stede Bonnet and placing one of his own officers in Bonnet's ship, the Revenge. Blackbeard now had three ships in his fleet, and preyed upon many more. He eventually made his way up the Florida Keys where he captured a Spanish Sloop.
In late May of 1718, Blackbeard entered the mouth of Charleston Harbor with the Queen Anne's Revenge, along with three lighter vessels, plundering five merchant freighters attempting to enter or leave the port. Aboard one of the ships that Blackbeard captured in the harbor mouth was a group of Charleston citizens, all of whom were being held as hostages for ransom for an unusual demand for a chest of medicines. The ransom took some days to be delivered, and Blackbeard came close to murdering all his prisoners, but the medicines were eventually turned over, and Blackbeard released his hostages.
Shortly afterward, Blackbeard ran two of his vessel aground at Topsail Inlet, including the Queen Anne's Revenge. Blackbeard had been accused by many, including his own crew, of doing this deliberately in order to downsize his crew in order to increase his own share of the treasure. Whether or not this was deliberate, Blackbeard stripped the three ships of all treasure, beached or marooned most of his crew, and went to Bath, North Carolina, where he at finally accepted a Royal Pardon.
Blackbeard was known to have had many wives. It was after accepting a Royal Pardon where the governor performed the marriage ceremony for Blackbeard's 14th wife, Mary Ormond. It is unknown as to what fate befell Mary Ormond, though it is presumed that Blackbeard offered her to his crew of the Queen Anne's Revenge.
Blackbeard eventually went back into his old pirate ways, and went off to Ocracoke Inlet in the last of his four vessels, the Adventure, to enjoy his loot
Having accepted a royal pardon, Edward Teach had apparently retired from piracy. However, Governor Alexander Spotswood of Virginia became concerned that Blackbeard lived nearby. Spotswood came to the decision to eliminate Blackbeard, despite the fact that he lived outside of Spotswood's jurisdiction.
Blackbeard operated in coastal waters, and was difficult for ships of the line to engage him in battle. Therefore, two smaller sloops were hired and put under the command of Lieutenant Robert Maynard, with instructions from Spotswood to hunt down and kill Blackbeard, offering the reward of 100 pounds, and smaller sums for the lesser crewmembers that served him.
It was often believed that this was the time where Blackbeard met his demise; It was said that Teach's headless body was thrown overboard and swam three times around the Adventure before climbing back on board the ship. Teach's head was placed as a trophy on the bowsprit of the ship, and later hung from a pike in Bath Town.
However, Blackbeard was not killed at all. He escaped with his treasure and returned to the Queen Anne's Revenge and had her repaired for use as his flagship once again. He added a cage on the back of the ship, and also added Greek fire cannons on the bow, and continued with piracy.
During later years, Blackbeard began to study Voodoo and became a master of the dark arts. For this, he changed his pirate flag, which was originally a horned, spear wielding skeleton, to a demonic, red-eyed skull with fire and fangs dripping with blood. Blackbeard learned how to raise the dead and began to include zombies in his crew. One of these zombies, known only as the Quartermaster, gained the ability to see things before they happen.
Blackbeard also came into possession of the legendary Sword of Triton, which was said to be forged in the very city of Atlantis. Blackbeard used this sword on many occasions, such as sea battles and increasing the speed in which his ship sailed, and to also keep his crew in line. The many ships that fell before Blackbeard, he had shrunk and placed inside a bottle, where he would store them in a cabinet in his cabin aboard the Revenge.
Blackbeard eventually crossed paths with a girl named Angelica, who claimed to be his daughter. Blackbeard took her aboard the Revenge and had many voyages together. Blackbeard trusted Angelica, and made her his first mate and second in command.
Angelica proved to be a very valuable and trusted ally to Blackbeard, but they both had different views on punishment, and Angelica wished to save Blackbeard's soul, despite his numerous evil-doings and misdeeds.
Blackbeard and Angelica would soon learn of a prophecy, foreseen by the Quartermaster, that told of Blackbeard's death in the hands of a one-legged man. This was when Blackbeard's quest for the Fountain of Youth began. Blackbeard, with Angelica's help, began his search for the Fountain sometime before the War Against Piracy. The first step to finding the Fountain was to seek out the Voodoo Mystic, Tia Dalma, to learn of the profane ritual needed for the Fountain to work...
A few years later, after the war against piracy ended, Blackbeard encountered a named theBlack Pearl, a pirate ship in command of Captain Hector Barbossa. With the power of the Sword of Trident, Blackbeard brought the rigging of the Black Pearl to life, and used it against Barbossa and his crew. Barbossa's men were defeated, and the Pearl was captured by Blackbeard. However, Hector Barbossa managed to escape, at the cost of his right leg.
After that, a young Anglican missionary named Philip Swift was captured by Blackbeard's crewmen during a raid on an island in the Caribbean. Blackbeard opted on killing Philip, but was stopped by Angelica, who believed Philip to be a key to Blackbeard's redemption.
The second step to finding the Fountain of Youth was to then find a man by the name of Jack Sparrow, a pirate captain with whom Angelica had a relationship with in the past.
In 1750, Blackbeard sent Angelica out to find Jack Sparrow and bring him aboard the Revenge. Angelica began to assemble a crew while in the disguise of Jack Sparrow, to attract him by the rumors that "Jack Sparrow(Angelica) was recruiting a crew in London in the Captain's Daughter tavern." Jack Sparrow apparently took the bait, and was forced aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, to aid Blackbeard in finding the Fountain of Youth.
During most of the journey, however, Blackbeard mostly stayed in his cabin and never came out. This led Jack to believe that the ship was not captained by Blackbeard, and that the crew had been deceived. The crewmen, after being persuaded by Jack Sparrow, opted to join in a mutiny, but was immediately crushed when Blackbeard emerged from his cabin and used the power of his sword on the crew.
Blackbeard opted to kill Jack Sparrow, but was interrupted by Philip Swift. Blackbeard and Philip exchanged words, Blackbeard once again intended to shoot Philip, but was once again stopped by Angelica. Blackbeard seemed touched that his daughter would go to such lengths to save him. Blackbeard believed that he could never be saved, wheres Angelica believed otherwise. Angelica believed that every soul could be saved, with which Philip agreed to the comment. Thanks to the faith his daughter showed, Blackbeard put his pistol away.
However, Blackbeard was not so merciful toward the Cook, who was to stand watch that night, but chose join in the mutiny against him. Blackbeard ordered the cook to go into a longboat, and... Well, let's just say that Blackbeard showed the entire crew why the cook was called the cook. Blackbeard unleashed the Greek fire cannons upon the cook as an example of what befell mutineers. Angelica pleaded for Blackbeard to spare the cooks life, but Blackbeard ignored her plea.
Blackbeard and his crew watched as the Cook was... Well, cooked by the Greek fire as he tried rowing away from the Revenge. Blackbeard told Philip that when he sees suffering, pain and anguish, he felt closest to his Maker, saying that is what the true design of the world was. Philip tried to convince Blackbeard otherwise, believing that there was still hope, but Blackbeard ignored him and gave the order to unleash fire once again.
Jack Sparrow was brought to Blackbeard's cabin by the Quartermaster for a little 'talk', where Blackbeard tried to convince Jack Sparrow to lead him to the Fountain of Youth. Jack Sparrow refused, and led Blackbeard to make a voodoo doll of Jack Sparrow. While Blackbeard was making the doll, Jack Sparrow tried to warn Blackbeard of Angelica, saying that she was not his real daughter. It was at that moment where Angelica entered the scene, and Blackbeard simultaneously started stabbing the voodoo doll of Jack and holding it's head over candle fire. Jack Sparrow, clearly feeling the pain, agreed to lead Blackbeard to the Fountain of Youth.
Three things were required to perform the profane ritual: the two Chalices of Cartagena and a Mermaid's tear; both chalices get water from the fountain while one chalice gets the tear. Whomsoever drinks the chalice with the tear gains all the years of the other who drank from the chalice without the tear.
The first thing for Blackbeard to acquire was a mermaid, but the true challenge was to procure a tear from the mermaid.
Following the mutiny lead against Blackbeard, the Queen Anne's Revenge sailed to Whitecap Bay, which was an uncharted island said to be the nesting waters of mermaids.
After arriving to Whitecap Bay, Blackbeard led the shore party. Some of his men deployed fishing nets to capture a mermaid, while he joined the others who made their way to the top of an old lighthouse. Salaman, one of his men, was able to get the lighthouse to work so that it could be used to attract the mermaids. Blackbeard then launched several longboats in the water with live bait to attract the mermaids.
The mermaids took the bait, and with the power of the Sword of Trident, used the Revenge to launch her Greek Fire cannons on the mermaids, forcing them to swim closer to shore. Anyone who cowered out was shot.
The whale oil used for the fire in the lighthouse exploded, and the mermaids retreated. However, not all of the mermaids escaped. Philip Swift managed to capture one mermaid by impaling the end of its tail with his cutlass.
After the Revenge was relocated to a protected cove of the island, Blackbeard and his men came inland to continue their quest. The next tasks were to find the Santiago which contained the two chalices, and procure a tear from the captured mermaid.
With the help of Jack Sparrow and his mystical compass, the crew made their way through the island, but were unable to move any further due to a broken bridge. One of them had to cross the river to retrieve the chalices, while the rest continued toward the Fountain. Jack Sparrow was ultimately chosen for the job. Blackbeard took Jack's compass and ordered Jack to jump off the cliff, but Jack refused. It was then that Blackbeard threatened to kill Angelica. Blackbeard gave his pistol to the Quartermaster, who had it placed with six more pistols, and telling him to load two pistols "but to not tell him which ones were loaded."
Jack Sparrow was then made to choose which of the Pistol's to use. The first one was empty, wheres the second one, fired into the air by Jack Sparrow, was loaded. Jack Sparrow underestimated Blackbeard, he asked the Quartermaster if he would survive the fall or not. After that, the Quartermaster took the Jack Sparrow voodoo doll, and tossed it over the cliff and into the river. When Jack was told that he would survive, Jack then proceeded to leap over the cliff. Sure enough, Jack Sparrow survived, and both Blackbeard and Sparrow went their separate ways; Jack to find the Chalices, Blackbeard to find the Fountain.
During the journey, the captured mermaid was carried in a glass tank filled with water. However, one of Blackbeard's zombie crewmen, Yeoman, tripped and dropped the tank, shattering it and spilling it. It was then that the mermaid's tail transformed into a pair of human legs. Blackbeard, not wanting to wait, told the creature to walk on its legs, but the creature was unable to. After threatening the creature, Philip Swift decided to carry the creature, whom he called Syrena.
Blackbeard and his crew arrived at the Jungle Pools, a place where mermaids, harvested for their tears, were tied up and left to die. Blackbeard had Syrena put into one of the pools while Blackbeard told Syrena of her fellow mermaids who were left there to die a slow and painful death. Syrena did not yield, so Blackbeard then used Philip, who shared a special bond with the mermaid. After realizing that Syrena would remain strong, Blackbeard ordered the Quartermaster to kill Philip. It appeared as though Blackbeard and his crew left the mermaid to die, but they were actually waiting for Philip, who was only sedated, regained consciousness and tried to save Syrena.
It was then where Syrena finally shed a tear of joy for their reunion, which was quickly obtained by Blackbeard and his crew. However, being the cruel, black-hearted villain that he was, Blackbeard ordered Syrena to be secured and left at the pools to die.
Nice guy, huh?
Blackbeard and his crew eventually met up with Jack Sparrow, who had successfully found the Chalices, which were tied up to a wild board that was held down by Joshamee Gibbs. However, Jack was not going to hand the chalices over unless Blackbeard agreed that Angelica would remain unharmed, and that he returned his compass so that Gibbs can go free. Blackbeard, annoyed by Jack Sparrow, accepted and took the chalices from Gibbs.
With the guidance of Jack Sparrow, Blackbeard and his crew found the entrance to the Fountain of Youth. It was then that the Quartermaster took lead, and led Blackbeard and his crew down further into the caves. However, they eventually happened upon a dead end.
Upon the unsuccessful attempts to gain entrance into the Fountain by hitting the two chalices against one another, Blackbeard and his crew realized that Jack Sparrow had never been to the Fountain of Youth. Blackbeard, angered by this realization, ordered the Quartermaster to kill Jack Sparrow. Jack Sparrow managed to shield himself with the chalices, and when Blackbeard aimed his own pistol at Jack Sparrow, he noticed words inscribed on the chalices and uttered the words aloud:
Aqua de Vida.
Suddenly, Blackbeard and his crew heard water coming from the cave, rising up along the walls and collecting into a pool above their heads. Blackbeard watched as Jack climbed onto Scrum's shoulders, poked the pool with his cutlass, and was sucked into it. It was then that Blackbeard and the rest of his men followed suit.
At last, Blackbeard and his men found themselves at the Fountain of Youth. However, Blackbeard was not the only one. To his dismey, Blackbeard was confronted by Hector Barbossa-- the one-legged man who was destined to kill him.
Jack had led Barbossa and his crew to the Fountain to confront Blackbeard. Barbossa declared Blackbeard his prisoner, stating the crimes he had committed, included the loss of his leg. Blackbeared questioned Barbossa's challenge as he drew his sword. If this were to be Blackbeard's death, he was determined not to go down without a fight. He ordered his crew to attack Barbossa's men, but was briefly interrupted by Jack Sparrow, who tried to convince everyone to just let the captains fight each other solo. The battle between the two crews began shortly afterward, and Blackbeard engaged in a fierce duel with Barbossa.
Blackbeard had gained the upper advantage against Barbossa, but was furious to see the smile on Barbossa's face. It was then that Barbossa pointed out to Blackbeard that they had more, unwanted visitors...
From out of the fog came the Spaniard and his men. The battle between Blackbeard's men and Barbossa's was halted, and the Spaniard declared that the fountain was to be destroyed. As the Spanish began destroying the Fountain of Youth, the Spaniard confronted Blackbeard. However, while Blackbeard's attention was on the Spaniard, he failed to notice Hector Barbossa stand up from behind Blackbeard, slicing his sword on Blackbeard's wrist. Turning around to face Hector Barbossa, he was then stabbed by Barbossa's sword, which had been tainted by venomous frogs. Angelica, seeing that her father was mortally wounded, rushed to Blackbeard's side to remove the sword, but cut herself in the process.
Barbossa left, claiming the Sword of Trident, as well as Blackbeard's crew and ship as his own, and The Fountain of Youth was destroyed, but despite this, Jack was still able to recover water from the fountain with the chalices, and added the mermaid's tear into one of the Chalices.
It was at this moment where Blackbeard was given the choice; save his daughter, or save himself. Jack presented the chalice with the tear to Angelica, saying that Blackbeard must drink the chalice without the tear to save his daughter. Of the two choices to either save himself or Angelica, Blackbeard opted to save himself...
However, after both of them drank from their chalices, Jack Sparrow announced that he may have had the two chalices mixed up; Angelica drank from the one with the tear while Blackbeard...
Blackbeard, furious at Jack Sparrow, tried to attack him, but found himself stuck in place. As the cut in Angelica's hand healed, Blackbeard was consumed by the flowing waters of the Fountain of Youth, surrounding him, entwined him, and rotted his body, dissolving his skin and leaving nothing but bones...
But this was not his end. Blackbeard's story continues in Walt Disney World...
Ambitions:
Aside from finding the Fountain of Youth, it isn't really clear what Blackbeard's ambitions are. Simply to be the most fearsome pirate to have ever sailed the seas-- that would probably be his ambition.
Strengths & abilities:
-Often strikes fear into the hearts of many
-Is an extremely good sword-fighter
-Knows a bit about voodoo and can make voodoo dolls of other people
-Wields the Sword of Trident, though this can be accomplished by anyone.
-Is the inventory of his own type of grenade; he filled empty bottles of rum with gunpowder and small pieces of iron or lead. Very useful for dealing damages to his enemies without damaging a ship.
Flaws:
-Is an alcoholic
-Tends to be a womanizer
-Is not very merciful
-Is very sadistic
-Has a low sense of morality
-Always chooses himself above others, including his own daughter.
Likes:
-Reminding people who he is
-Killing
-Torturing
-All those other deviously devilish things that Pirates are known for
-Striking fear into the hearts of his enemies
-Making voodoo dolls
-Drinking
-Collecting the ships belonging to his enemies, shrinking them and having placing them within a bottle.
Dislikes:
-Being disrupted from his rest
-Mutineers
-People who question his authority
-People who are religious
-People who forget who he is
Fears:
There are are very few things that Blackbeard actually fears in life, but even Blackbeard has his fears for a few things...
-He fears death
-He fears the idea of possible capture and imprisonment for the rest of his life
-He has a very small fear for Angelica's safety, but not enough to risk his life for hers.
What makes this character unique: Blackbeard is the first historical pirate to make his appearance in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. He is also the first to have a death where you can't help but say "Aww! You jerk!" at the end.
