Of course, leave it to a character from the Black Cauldron to come up with the topic about their movie..
The Black Cauldron is probably considered as one of Disney's Darkest Animated Features, the other being Hunchback of Notre Dame. A few scenes had to be cut from the movie as to not get a PG-13 or R rating! In the end, it ended up with a PG Rating. Alas, from what I've recently discovered, not many people know the movie or not many people really like the movie because it's either
A: "Differs" to far from the books, or..
B: Because the movie was "Too dark"
Honestly, i don't see anything wrong with the movie. I thought it was very good! I mean, i never watched it none-stop when i was little(That went to the Lion King), but i enjoyed the movie. Undead Skeleton army never bothered me one bit. I thought the Horned King was perfectly normal.. Well, for a Disney villain. Of course, this is all coming from someone who also loved watching Jurassic Park, so.. And i've never read the books.. ;D
But the movie never fazed me one bit. Although there was that thing outside of the witches' house that used to scare me. Looks like a Tiki Totem of a Demented Gurgi.. But i enjoyed the movie! I thought it was just as good as any other Disney movie. But yeah, the movie is not really that popular when it comes to Disney movies..
You might have seen a few merchandise(Such as pins or the infamous bust of the Horned King), or maybe you've seen the Horned King on a beach towel with various other villains? But other then that, there isn't really much when it comes to merchandise. You might have heard of "Gurgi's Munchings and Crunchings" or the "Cinderella Castle Mystery Tour" which was the only attraction to ever feature the Horned King over at Disneyland Tokyo? Both were closed and that makes the Horned King sad..
Why, i haven't even seen a single commercial about the DVD on TV! If it weren't for me researching the movie, i probably would not have known it was coming out. Of course, when i found out they were coming out with a DVD, it made me start obsessing over the movie(I had to wait six months!) and it eventually led me to RP-ing as who? ;D
But these are my thoughts on the movie. What about you guys and gals?
