Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's Ret., and I wished upon a star from A Matter Of Pride. My other imaginary friends include Smee, The Tramp, Shere Khan, and Willie. Bruton and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: Bruton
Age: Late 50s, early 60s.
Species: Iguanodon
Birthplace: The Nesting grounds.
Movie: Dinosaur
Custom title: The Noble Brute
Why:
Character appearance
Hair description: No hair. The closest he has is a ridge of spines running from the top of his head to just in front of his hips.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Bruton's face is heavyset and craggy. His jaw is pronounced and powerful, a prominent, bony knob rises from the end of his snout, and heavy ridges surround his eyes. His typical expression is a deep scowl, as if he disapproves of everything he sees. So deeply ingrained is this scowl that it looks like a smile would hurt his face.
Clothing style: Being a dinosaur, Bruton doesn't even know what clothing is.
Body build: Like all Iguanodons, Bruton is quadrupedal, covered in thick, scaly hide, and has a long, thick tail which makes a handy bludgeon. What sets him apart is his rougher hide, and overall size. His body is heavyset and muscular.
Any unique traits (optional): His 'thumb' spikes which can be used for defense are unique to his species.
Original character analysis
Personality:
However, despite all that, he genuinely want what's best for the herd, at least as a whole, placing the good of the group over any individual. He is courageous in the face of danger, highly perceptive, and possesses a high level of gritty determination. He is also loyal to a fault towards whoever he decides is worthy of such loyalty. Usually, this would be the leader of his herd, but not always. He endures pain and injury with stoic acceptance.
After Aladar showed him kindness without expecting anything in return, the deeply buried, caring part of the old dinosaur started to resurface. He began to rethink his principles, even if it was a slow process. While he tended to feel this way before, his desire to protect the members of his herd were only strengthened after he briefly joined with Aladar's small splinter herd.
History:
Over the years, his competence was bolstered by experience, and he survived many migrations, which only served to mask his caring side beneath a callous exterior. He became completely inured to the deaths that unfortunately but unavoidably occurred during the migrations. He'd have preferred to lose nobody, but he simply saw it as their fate.
However, his life would change when a young Iguanodon named Aladar joined the herd for the migration, together with a family of lemurs. Bruton saw Aladar as an insolent upstart, and viewed the lemurs as worthless parasites. However, the migration continued as all the others had, up until the lake they were planning on using to drink after crossing the desert had apparently dried out, and Kron sent him and a young scout to explore the perimeter after he suggested there might be water nearby.
However, he and the scout were ambushed, leaving Bruton severely injured and the scout dead, killed by Carnosaurs before Bruton's eyes. He manage to fight his assailants off, and return to warn Kron of the Carnotaurs' presence. Kron, furious, blamed Bruton for leading the Carnotaurs to the herd, but ordered him to signal the herd to move. However, with his injures slowing him down, Bruton was left behind to die.
Aladar tried to help him after he wandered close to the cave where Aladar's little herd had gathered to shelter for the night, but he rebuffed the younger dino's offer. However, he did eventually take Aladar up on his offer, and limed into the cave, even though he felt he was fated to die in the cave. But Plio, while treating his wounds, advised him to not lose hope. Considering her words, he accepted her offer of a plant that would help soothe pain of his wounds.
Unfortunately, the Carnotaurs had wandered near the mouth of the cave, and when a loose rock dislodged by Baylene tumbled out of the cave at their feet despite Aladar's best efforts to catch it, they were attacked. In the ensuing scramble to escape, Aladar was seized by one of the Carnotaurs, and was about to be devoured when Bruton, remembering his failure to save the scout, charged into battle, ordering Aladar to help the others while he held the Carnotaurs off.
In the ensuing struggle, he used his tail to knock one of the beasts down, then, having spotted the loose ceiling, he crashed headlong into the other Carnotaur, sending it crashing into a rocky spire, and causing a cave in. The ensuing rock-slide killed one of the Carnotaurs, and left the other severely wounded, while also barring any attempt to chase the rest of the herd it may have tried to make. However, Bruton himself was caught in the rock fall, and succumbed to his injuries...
...only to awaken, dazed and confused, in some strange new world.
Ambitions: Bruton isn't all that ambitious. Right now, his overriding desire is to try to understand Aladar's philosophy. He's not quite convinced it's a perfect system, but he's seen enough to be intrigued.
Strengths & abilities: His sheer determination is a powerful asset, and he possesses a great deal of strength and endurance. He is also ready to place himself in harm's way, if need be, for the sake of other members of his herd.
Flaws: He lacks social skills. That, together with his grumpy nature, means he has a hard time getting to know others.
Likes: He enjoys relaxing and eating, knowing his herd is safe. He also takes pride in knowing he's depended on, and acknowledged for his skills and abilities.
Dislikes: Going hungry and thirsty, Carnosaurs, disorder, weakness, and back talking. He is also easily irritated, which can lead him to dislike individuals who don't meet his standards.
Fears: Carnotaurs, and failing others through his own personal weakness.
