'Twas a fine day as Merida and Angus raced through the forest. A slight breeze was brewing in the east, but it was barely noticed as she raced through the new course that her da had set up to prepare for the upcoming games. Merida knew she had little need of it; she had already won the year before (despite nearly, ye know, causin' a war and refusin' t' git married 'n all that...) But the course provided some new challenges, which, though not near enough for her to miss a single target.
As she brought Angus to heel, Merida hopped off with a giggly smile. "Well, how's tha' run, d'ye think, Angus?" A slight nicker was all she got in response, and Merida smiled, running her hand through his mane.
The breeze from the east picked up again, and this time, Merida felt she could hear a slight whisper in the air; a whisper she swore she'd heard somewhere before. Angus shuddered nervously, and there in the distance, a familiar sight appeared. Merida gasped, "A wisp...."
Angus tried to back away, but Merida pulled his reins. "C'mon, ye goosey nag! It's jus' a wisp!" With another pull of the reins, Angus began to follow the red-haired girl as she followed the trail of wisps ahead of her. As they walked, Merida noticed as the trees began to change, their leaves growing broader and thicker.
As the last wisp disappeared, Merida and Angus found themselves looking at a barren grassland, with a small pond filled with large pink birds on thin stalky legs. "Great honkin' gooseys, would ye look at tha'! What kinda birds d'ye figure'd be traipsin' around loike tha'?" Angus shook his head and Merida climbed up the saddle and onto his back.
She did so not a moment too soon, because at that very moment, a small boulder suddenly sprouted teeth and lunged at the pair. Angus reared up, and Merida squealed in fear, urging Angus to jump the strange creature and run. As the two furiously raced across the plains, they came across a used and dusty path, which Merida took to be a path of safety. The path eventually led to a strange castle of some sort, and at the sight of it, Angus began to slow down.
Still gasping for a breath, Merida watched as scores of people stood in a line and got aboard large horseless carriages, some of them pointing and waving at her. "Wha' in th'world is this place, Angus?"
