Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
Tamatoa is rarely a kind and gentle crab, and even then it’s usually a ruse to acquire something. From his younger days to his current ones, he always found an unhealthy obsession with food and Jewelry, to the point where he will actively hunt down both given the chance. To him, it’s all about outer beauty and being the most eye-catching as opposed to being yourself and going with what your heart says. Especially when being shiny attracts your food and you don’t have any more friends to tell you otherwise. While not completely evil, he has no problem getting back at someone that committed wrongdoings against him, even if what he does turns out to be emotionally painful for the other. A quick way to get on his good side is by flattering him with questions about himself or saying how pretty he is. A quick way to get on his bad side is to stare at or say anything about his missing leg.
History:
Thousands of years ago, a small crab used to barely brave his dangerous home of Lalotai, constantly having to avoid dangerous monsters that would love a seafood dish. Aside from his recently deceased grandmother, he had no one to help him survive for much longer in the difficult world he knew then...until there came a loud sound from entrance to Lalotai. Tamatoa was soon to meet a demigod feared by all the other monsters, wielding a massive fishhook and shapeshifting into any creature imaginable. The small crab was delighted by the magical feats, but was most interested in the tatoos that the demigod bore. He introduced himself as Maui, and that he was there to find ancient gem stolen long ago by a large lizard monster. The crab was eager to aid the visitor in finding the shiny item, even if he wouldn’t get it himself. As a surprising reward for his help, Maui gave him the gem and offered the crab a trip to the surface world. That, and his very own name: Tamatoa.
Tamatoa and Maui became best friends for centuries, sharing personal secrets, constantly testing out the depth of Tamatoa’s belly or occasionally pranking sea creatures for a good laugh. Mostly, they went on adventures to seek jewels, but instead of tamatoa being the recipient, it was the humans that his friend gave them to. It was no big deal at first, and neither was the issue of Tamatoa’s growing size. Maui had leave him on an island when he had grown too much for the boat, but promised to return soon...only to end up being sidetracked with things to do for the humans. The crab eventually grew cold and distant from his missing friend, while his hunger and size grew to threatening proportions for the wildlife on the island. He even developed strategies of using his shiny shell to attract sailors to their doom. When said sailors spread tales of a giant crab terrorizing them, Maui finally took an interrupted trip to the island. The kind greetings were very brief as they both argued with each other over what they’d done, and whether or not the crustacean would be going back to Lalotai. It began with a rude comment about Maui’s abandoning parents, continued with a heavy fight and ended with Maui ripping off one of Tamatoa’s legs. The demigod managed to carry the unconscious foe down into Lalotai, where he left him once more.
Soon after, Tamatoa came upon rumors of Maui losing his hook in the process of stealing Tefiti’s heart and he searched feverishly for it in hopes that Maui would return and he would have his revenge. But time passed slowly and the crab went from preparing a revenge song to getting comfortable in his new cave. Maui was nearly forgotten, until that fateful day when the human girl claimed to have come to see his awesomeness. Bored as he was, he’d begun his song and prepared to feast until Maui appeared on his shell, unable to shift forms quite right. Tamatoa readily sang the rest of his cruel tune, tossing his former friend around like a limp doll and even jabbing at his parents again. But the human girl was clever; She made him think that she had the heart of Tefiti and the next thing he knew, he was flipped on his back by a geyser. The crab sat there for many days after, grimly whining and talking to no one.

His eyestalks briefly swiveled towards each other before popping wide open, matching his crazed grin eerily well. He'd had years to practice it. "...Well,well,well! Little Maui's having trouble with his look!"
This was just too good to be true! To think that Maui had lost total control of his hook, and was now defenseless was simply marvelous! The crab continued turning, wide eyes gleefully centered on the small demigod's form as he tried shaking his weapon. It gave Tamatoa an idea, and soon his entire shell was purposely shaking to unbalance Maui. "Ya' little semi-demi-minigod! Ouch! What a terrible performance," When the frustrated shape shifter tumbled steadily towards the edge of his shell, a claw was ready to grasp the end of his hook. "Get the hook--get it? You don't swing it like you used to Maaan!"
After grinning at seeing Maui flung into the nearest wall, he winked at his former friend's massive scowl. The fact that he was singing while effortlessly throwing him around must be insulting. Good--then this was really gonna be his least favorite song in the world. "Yet I have to give you credit for my staaart, and your tattoos on the outside! For just like you," Tamatoa swayed from one side to the other, before pausing to shoot a claw at Maui's hook. His claw easily tossed it high upwards , along with its helpless owner."I made myself a work of art! I'll never hide."
He struck a pose with claws raised in a shrug, grinning with yellow teeth. "I can't, I'm too SHINY!
