Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's Neo, and I wished upon a star from here. My other imaginary friends include Jake, Shere Khan, Hyena Trio, and Nick Wilde. Delbert and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: Delbert Doppler
Age: 36
Species: Canid
Birthplace: Montressor
Movie: Treasure Planet
Custom title: Adventurous Astronomer
Why'd you pick this character? I enjoy science fiction, and Treasure Planet is a unique setting. For that, I thought Doppler would be a good character to explore such a setting in-depth. He is smart, adventurous, and a bit of a goof, in an adorable sort of way. I figured I can use him to expand on the world, and introduce Delbert to some 21st century life.
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Delbert has brown hair that extends down to his neck. However, Delbert keeps his hair stylized by tying it into a neat ponytail, which gives him a more elegant look.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Delbert has a noticeable, canine-like nose. He has large, expressive eyes with dark brown irises and thick brown eyebrows. Expression wise, he is capable of a wide range of emotions, just like a human.
Clothing style: Usually, Delbert can be seen wearing a white long sleeved shirt with a green handkerchief tucked underneath a brown vest over it, and a pair of brown pants to complete the look. He also can be seen wearing a red coat over his normal attire, though it depends on the occasion.
He always will be wearing glasses.
Body build: Delbert has an average build. He doesn’t fight or work out, so he lacks any muscles, but he does try to stay fit.
Any unique traits (optional): None
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
Delbert is a typical smart type who loves to make new discoveries. However, Delbert is also clumsy at times, and tends to stumble over his own words. It doesn’t help that he is both paranoid about the dangers of exploration, and eager to do such exploration. This often leads to some amusing scenarios, such as the time where he bought a rather useless suit, or when he was sprayed on by a space whale.
Despite this, Delbert is a rather smart individual. His expertise in astronomy allowed him to help Captain Amelia and the crew, and his quick thinking (and his surprisingly thin wrists) allowed him to overpower a pirate who was keeping he and Amelia hostage. While Doopler felt he was useless at first, he learned new skills, and learned how to be more confident and assertive when need be.
Delbert also doesn’t enjoy being insulted.
History:
Delbert was born and raised on the planet of Montressor. His father was a shipwright, while his mother was a teacher at Crescentia. This combination led to a young Delbert to develop an interest in the stars, and a desire to explore the etherium between planets and to find new discoveries, upon hearing legends such as the one of Treasure Planet. He was more interested in pursuing a career in the navy, to command his own ship for exploration purpose. However, when conflict erupted between the Terran Empire and the Procyons, Delbert was driven off of that path, and instead pursued a career in astronomy.
Delbert graduated with a master’s degree in astronomy at the age of 24, and by the time he was 30, he already had a enough money to own his own manor, complete with an observatory. This was all due to his contribution to the empire, which gave him a bit of a presence within the empire and its navy. However, his role as an astronomer meant that most people only saw him as a smart guy who only used a telescope. When he tried to re-open his desire for exploration, he was laughed at by the naval officers, and was turned down.
Thankfully, he had some respect. During the time between his graduation and the present, Delbert became friends with the Hawkins family. He always visited the BenBow Inn to receive breakfast and dinner. He was a regular at the inn, and the owner, Sarah Hawkins, enjoyed his company. When the family was in hard times, and the father suddenly left, Delbert offered support for the family, and even stepped in to help take care of a young Jim Hawkins, when the need came.
This, and his old desire, came together. When Jim Hawkins found a dying spacer by the name of Billy Bones, a group of space pirates arrived at the inn to find Billy Bone’s treasure. During the attack, Delbert helped the Hawkins family evacuate the inn before it burned down. With no home, Delbert allowed the family to stay at his manor, though the treasure, a strange orb, eluded him. It was a strange spherical object made of an unknown metal. It could be valuable in money, or it could be something powerful…
The truth was far from it.
Jim’s curiosity led to the activation of the sphere. The sphere itself wasn’t a random object. It was a map. A map, that, out of all things, led to the mysterious Treasure Planet. Delbert was ecstatic! All this time, he wanted to do something great in his life, and this was his moment. Jim also saw this as an opportunity to claim the treasure to help rebuild the inn, and although Sarah was hesitant, Delbert figured that helping Jim out was the best way to have him break his rebellious phase.
Delbert found a ship and a good captain, using his connections in the Royal Navy. A crew on the other hand, was harder than expected. Although the navy offered him a vessel and a rising captain by the name of Amelia, Delbert had to find a crew out of people who was willing to search for some ‘planet that may or may not exist’. This searching led to him meeting a cyborg by the name of John Silver. Silver was kind, and rather interested in the prospect of finding Treasure Planet. He was also a good cook, and knew people who would want to join the ship. Delbert figured the cyborg was a good guy, and so, allowed him onboard, as well as anyone else who Silver had in mind.
After buying a suit meant for deep-etherium exploration (not his best decision…), Delbert and Jim boarded the ship, the R.L.S Legacy, and met the captain first hand. He didn’t like her personality, at first, which led to him ignoring her advice at times...and led to him getting thrown about the ship or sprayed by a space whale.
His opinion on Amelia changed after Delbert used his astronomy abilities to save the ship from a supernova. He was flattered by her praise, to the point of stumbling on his own words. But one of the ship’s crewmembers was killed during the supernova, and when the ship’s crew turned mutinous when the Legacy arrived at Treasure Planet, it was clear that Delbert was wrong about Silver.
Very wrong.
The cyborg was a cook, but he was also secretly a pirate. A pirate who knew about the map, and who brought his own crew to command the ship. In the ensuing escape, Delbert was surprised when he successfully blasted a piece of equipment off the ceiling, sending a number of pirates falling to their death. Delbert than coordinated with Amelia to blast the cables holding the longboat in place, allowing them to escape with Jim and the map.
Upon crashing, Amelia was injured. He did his best to tend to her wounds, but Jim was forced to go back to the ship to retrieve the real map, leading to him and Amelia being captured. Delbert lamented about his uselessness to Amelia, but in the process, found out that his bindings was lose as a result of his thin wrists, and was able to trick a pirate so that he and Amelica could escape and recapture the Legacy.
However, the planet itself was rigged to explode if anyone tried to enter the core. With Amelia still injured, Delbert had to steer the ship. After picking up Jim Hawkins, a crazy robot by the name of B.E.N, and a John Silver who had a change of heart, they tried to escape the exploding planet. In the process, a part of the sails was destroyed. With the ship lacking the required thrust, Jim had an idea on using the planet’s teleportation array in order to bring the Legacy back to Montressor. With Jim’s help, Delbert was able to get the ship through the portal, and back to Montressor just as the entire planet was destroyed.
The event led to Delbert rekindling his old interest of exploration, and led to him developing a relation with Captain Amelia. When they returned to port, Delbert was quick to bring her to a hospital so she could recover. And when Amelia did recover, the two got married. For once in Delbert’s life, everything was perfect. And he could finally let go of his own hesitation, and be a little bit stronger than he was before.
Maybe now, he could actually do something he enjoys doing. And have a family to call his own.
