Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's Sephy, and I wished upon a star from Google?. My other imaginary friends include Helen Parr, Jack-Jack Parr, Gaston, Héctor Rivera, Morgan Phillip, and General Mattias. Quasimodo and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: Quasimodo
Age: 20 years old
Species: Human, though Quasi believes that he's a monster
Birthplace: Paris, France
Movie: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Custom title: The Bellringer of Notre Dame
Why'd you pick this character? I love Hunchback of Notre Dame, and I find Quasimodo so caring and sweet despite his insecurities. He's very realistic given his upbringing, but I love that he's secretly a dreamer.
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Quasi has short, red hair that is parted in the middle. He has some uneven cut bangs that fall on one side of his face, just over his right eye while his left, deformed eye remains uncovered. His bulky arms also have some of his red hair.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Quasimodo mostly has an expression of longing, especially in those teal colored eyes; always longing to be accepted by people, but with the bleak acceptance of the reality of the situation that Frollo constantly reminds him of. Quasi prefers to hide from people out of fear of scaring them, believing that he's a monster because of Frollo, so he will most often be seen cowering away from people to avoid them screaming at his deformed face. He bears a lump over his left eye that hinders his vision on that eye, while his large nose sits between his eyes. When he does find reasons to smile, he'll bear his white teeth which mostly demonstrates his prominent two front teeth that are crooked, though he does have crooked bottom teeth that aren't often seen.
Clothing style: Quasi has a long green tunic that covers the large hunch on his back and ends down at his knees, where he wears brown tight pants with teal pointed shoes.
Body build: Quasimodo is heavy built on the top, bearing the same strength as a heavy-weight built man, but slender in the bottom to enable him to be agile in his acrobatic movement.
Any unique traits (optional): It should be noted that he shuffles his feet a bit when he walks, though he is still agile in movement while climbing or swinging himself around.
He's definitely unique in appearance and strength, which has already been described.
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
Quasimodo was made very well aware of his physical flaws since he was taken in by Judge Claude Frollo. Sadly, those reminders and that way of manipulative parenting manifested in socio-emotional flaws as well, such as making insecure, self-deprecating comments because of his low self esteem. In addition, his lack of social skills cause him to withdraw and handle tough situations or rejections immaturely along with much regret. Given these insecurities, it makes him stammer more, become more anxious, and even shy, though he'll be eager to please and say "yes" after being swayed by manipulative people or insistent people.
When he's not creating his little town out of wooden carvings, he daydreams with the gargoyles, which is when he is at his most articulate self. Somehow, despite his negative upbringing, Quasimodo has managed to find a way to be sweet, loyal, and caring to people like Frollo, the gargoyles, and even animals. He would never want wish anyone or any animal to be in his position, though he takes comfort in Notre Dame and enjoys ringing the bells, and he dreams of one day being accepted by the rest of the world.
History:
The Bellringer of Notre Dame was said to have been rejected by his mother from the moment of his birth and abandoned on the steps of Notre Dame, where orphans and unwanted children were normally left to public charity. Quasimodo was actually very lucky, for anyone could have drowned him for his deformities. At least, that was what his master, Judge Claude Frollo, told him as much when he found him that night. Quasimodo also liked to believe that Frollo named him after the day he was found, Quasimodo Sunday or the Sunday after Easter, when he brought him to live in the bell tower of the church and raised him as his own.
Unbeknownst to Quasimodo, however, nothing could be further from the truth. True, his birth mother did reject and abandon him, but he was taken in by a Romani gypsy couple, who wanted to raise him as their own. Unfortunately, just when the Romani gypsies arrived on the docks of the Seine in Paris to seek refuge in the Court of Miracles at the Cemetery Of Innocents, they were ambushed by Judge Claude Frollo and his soldiers. Before the Romani gypsy woman could be arrested, Frollo claimed that the baby bundled in the Romani gypsy mother's arms was stolen goods and threatened to take it from her. Instantly, the brave mother ran with the baby until she reached the steps of Notre Dame, trying but failing to claim sanctuary just as Frollo kicked her onto the steps and snatched the baby away from her. One look upon the baby's deformities and Frollo instantly thought it was a demon that needed to be sent back to the inferno where it belonged and aimed to cast the baby into a well to drown. When the Archdeacon of Notre Dame finally came to witness the blood that had been spilled on the steps of Notre Dame, he admonished Frollo's actions and stopped him from dropping the baby into the well, strongly suggesting that he care for the child and raise it as his own. Sadly, Quasimodo could never regard Frollo as his father, but was taught to call him master. In truth, he was actually named Quasimodo because it meant "half formed." Worse still, the bell ringer did not have a bed to sleep upon in the bell tower, except for a pillow and a blanket for him to sleep on the floor. Still, Quasimodo tried to be appreciative of Frollo's help, given his constant reminders that anyone else would have drowned him.
Growing up under his master's stern rule that he must never ever leave the bell tower because the people would revile him as a monster, Quasimodo was instructed by Frollo to learn about the cleaning and organization of the church, easily becoming the bell-ringer of the Notre Dame Cathedral. He also learned his alphabet with Frollo on a daily basis and ate meager meals that Frollo graciously shared, consisting of fruit or bread. When Frollo was not there to educate him, Quasimodo took to learning on his own. Despite not being able to leave, Quasimodo managed to find some measure of entertainment with the three talking gargoyles, as well as learning more about the people down below him and how their lives must have been like, not to mention dabbling a little bit in the arts. Because most of the Cathedral's unused or broken decorations were sent up in the bell tower for storage or for repairs, Quasimodo grew up with various pieces of architecture and stained glass, so he ended up teaching himself how to carve wood as well as making decoration from stained glass. Thus, after years of studying the town below him and learning about the patterns of all the people passing by, he began to carve the entire miniature town out of wood, including: the Notre Dame Cathedral, all the figurines of the townspeople, as well as himself and Frollo.
January 6th happened to be one of Quasimodo's favorite days to observe the town below. It was the Feast of Fools, and he thought it looked so fun! The jugglers, the music, the dancing! Yet this year? He just didn't feel like watching it. He didn't understand why Frollo would go all the time, even knowing that he hated the Feast of Fools. Quasi just secretly wanted to be there to experience it all for himself, and the three gargoyles finally goaded him into slipping out of the cathedral in a disguise just this once. Although Frollo figured out what he wanted to do and tried to dissuade him, it was to no avail. Quasimodo managed to slip out of Notre Dame to experience the Feast of Fools first hand. Being there himself was overwhelming, especially when he was forced to participate in the Crowning of the Ugliest Face In All of Paris. As soon as the beautiful dancer named La Esmeralda tried to "unmask" him, everyone realized that it was actually his face and he was instantly filled with regret as Frollo's words echoed in his mind. To his surprise, however, the colorful host managed to persuade the crowd that he was the king that they were looking for, and suddenly, for the first time in his life, Quasimodo was met with cheers and affections from the crowd. It was everything he dreamed about and more!
That was, until the guards started throwing tomatoes at him, causing the rest of the crowd to follow suit. Quasimodo tried to use his strength to defend himself when ropes were flung to strangle him, but he was far too heartbroken and disillusioned; he was easily overcome by the people that strapped him onto the turning wheel, whirling him around and jeering at him. Although he called to his master for help many times, he was met with the disappointed expression of Judge Claude Frollo, who only looked away. All of this humiliation probably felt longer than it was, until suddenly, his ears caught the strangest sound that he never expected to hear: Silence.
The beautiful dancer that had unmasked him earlier had approached him. Quasimodo flinched at the sight of her hand coming towards his face, only expecting that she would deliver the final blow of humiliation upon him, but was met in surprise when she cleaned his face and freed him with her knife despite Judge Frollo's orders to forbid her from doing so. As Esmeralda managed to dodge Frollo's guards, much to his amazement, Quasimodo felt that he should wait to apologize as well as wait until his master wished for him to return back to Notre Dame. Thus, he loyally stayed where he was throughout the entire spectacle until La Esmeralda finally disappeared without a trace. Quasimodo apologized to Frollo and swore that he would never disobey him again, then slowly trudged through the crowd and returned back to Notre Dame.
Before Quasimodo could abandon all hope of ever being accepted by anyone like he dreamed, he heard a voice like an angel echoing all the way up to the bell tower. It was enough for him to come down to investigate for himself, where he listened to the beautiful humility filled in the song that Esmeralda sang about her people. Unfortunately, someone caught him, causing him to nervously rush back up the stairwell towards the bell tower, with Esmeralda following him quickly behind! He tried to lose her in order to avoid talking about what happened down there, but to no avail. Esmeralda wanted to apologize directly for what happened. Then, Esmeralda seemed to help him ease into his comfort zone by talking about his living space, his hobbies, and even agreed to being introduced to the bells that Quasimodo named. Feeling comforted by her warmth, Quasimodo next showed her the beautiful sights from above the tower. It was here where Esmeralda challenged his beliefs that gypsies were evil, then read his palm; to his astonishment, she did not find any monster lines. It was the first time that anyone had ever said that to him in his life. Feeling grateful for such gift, Quasimodo decided to help Esmeralda escape from the Notre Dame Cathedral that was currently being surrounded by the guards, carrying her and Djali safely above the rooftops using his acrobatic skill. Esmeralda tried to convince him to leave with her, but Quasimodo insisted that he stay after what had happened at the festival. After being given her woven pendant and a kiss, Esmeralda promised that she would visit him after sunset and safely escaped into the night.
Once Quasimodo reached the top of the ledge of the bell tower, he encountered Frollo's Captain of the Guard, who was looking for Esmeralda. Defending Esmeralda, he intimidated him with a torch lit with fire to have him leave the cathedral to preserve the sanctuary of the church. Using his strength, he picked up the armored soldier and lifted him up from the stairs, threatening him to go. Finally, the soldier promised that he'd leave under the condition that Quasimodo would be sure to tell Esmeralda that he didn't mean to trap her there, but it was the only way to save her life. To Quasimodo's surprise, the captain of the guards also seemed to acknowledge that Esmeralda was lucky to have a friend like him. Shortly after he watched Phoebus leave down the stairwell, Quasimodo wordlessly returned to his bell tower, where he was suddenly transported to Walt Disney World.
Ambitions:
To never disobey Judge Claude Frollo again and to stay in the Bell tower, where he has to attend to his daily tasks, such as ringing the bells for each mass or other sacrament, cleaning the cloisters, ringing the vespers, etc.
Although his dream to spend one day among the townspeople was crushed by what had occurred at the festival, he still longs to be accepted
Strengths & abilities:
His strength may appear almost superhuman, but it's similar to a body builder and not comparable to godly strength. To compare, he can pick up a fully grown man in armor by the cowl of his cape with one hand.
Greatly acrobatic - He is capable of swinging himself from high peaks or sitting atop of small ledges
Wood carving & minor skill in smelting
Creative and Detail Oriented in Observation - He designed an entire town along with the various types of people he's seen below from atop of his Bell tower
Flaws:
Insecure
Self-Deprecating that is grounded in a bleak reality by expressing his negative thoughts that he was brought up by Frollo to believe all his life
His physical flaws prevent him from being able to socialize with people that are quick to judge based on appearances instead of based on his gentle personality
He has limited education, only being taught his alphabet and socializing them with words
He's naive to love and even friendly relationships, given that he has no experience in either of them except for the gargoylesWithdrawn - He'll often make a ton of excuses why he shouldn't see anyone or meet anyone, even in the cathedral
Regretful - If he fails in trying something out, he instantly regrets even doing it.
Easily susceptible to guilt trips
Sarcastic/Immature - Given his poor upbringing by Judge Frollo, he does have a little tinge of jealousy or annoyance in the form of a sarcastic attitude for others that might hold the same affections he has of someone else.
Likes:
His friends, the gargoyles - Laverne, Victor, and Hugo
The Bells of Notre Dame: Little Sophia, Jean Marie, Ann Marie, Louise Marie (Triplets, you know.), and, of course, Big Marie.Gazing at the people down below him
Esmeralda
Judge Frollo - He took him in when no one else would
Grapes and Bread
Wine
Dislikes:
Disobeying or Disappointing Judge Frollo
Being humiliated and tortured like he was in the Feast of Fools Festival
Seeing poor animals being trapped when they could be a part of the world outside
Fears:
Scaring other people, as well as being humiliated or attacked by people again, just like they did in the Feast of Fools.
Above all, he fears Judge Claude Frollo and disobeying him again.
Anything to add?:
This is set after Quasimodo's interaction with Esmeralda and Phoebus, shortly after the Feast of Fools. I wanted Quasimodo to at least know them a little better in case we should ever have a Phoebus here.
