Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's CHRIS, and I wished upon a star from HERE!. My other characters include DAVID XANATOS. MIRABEL MADRIGAL and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: Mirabel Madrigal
Age: 15
Species: Human
Birthplace: Colombia
Movie: Encanto
Custom title: Part of the family
Why'd you pick this character? Mirabel immediately charmed me with her quirkiness, determination, and resilience. I think especially with a lot of Madrigals coming on to the site, she has real potential to shine.
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Mirabel's hair is primarily short, frizzy, and curly. The color is black.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Mirabel is primarily a bright and open person, with a broad and expressive face to match. But this can shift in more depressive moods to more closed-off sadness.
Clothing style: Mirabel primarily wears a white ruffled shirt and a teal skirt. Her shoes are bright pink.
Body build: Mirabel is fairly short, especially in comparison to others in her family. Though she does have a fairly stocky body and longer legs.
Any unique traits (optional): Mirabel wears large, round glasses and has a prominent sloping nose.
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
As said, Mirabel is largely positive and enthusiastic as a person. She's very kind to children and sincerely loves the brightness of the world, the Casita, and her village. She also has a very playful sense of humor and sarcasm. But this can sometimes be a front for feeling down and morose, which can break under the strain if the weight of her stress is too much to bear. That being said, this can often transfer into a determined need to solve the problem rather than sitting around and feeling sorry for herself. Without that quality in particular, she would never have found the strength to confront the legacy of the Madrigals and ultimately bring them closer together.
History:
Mirabel was born into a family with history. They were the Madrigals, the pride and providers of the encanto, and thus had a great deal to live up to. Abuela Alma always said that they had to earn the gift they had been provided through service. And she believed in it, to the bottom of her heart.
And then came the day, her fifth birthday, when the Casita did not grant her a gift.
In the intervening ten years, she tried her best, eager to make her family-Abuela, Pepa, her mother Julieta, father Agustin, and all the others-proud. But never ever seemed to take, she gained a poor relationship with her "golden child" sister Isabela, and even the village could treat her like an afterthought. The one who didn't fit.
That all began to shift on the fifth birthday of her cousin Antonio. Many in the family were nervous given that Mirabel's ceremony had been the last one, but all went without a hitch, and Antonio gained the power to talk to animals. And Mirabel was happy for him, but couldn't help but feel a little jealous at the relief that ensued. He's safe. Not like her.
When she returned to the Casita, she noticed strange cracks in the walls, which disappeared by the time the others arrived, and a vision of the house's candle flame going out. After overhearing Alma expressing concern in private, she set out to discover the problem on her own. Through talking to her sister Luisa, who admitted that she was feeling her gift of superstrength weaken, and others in the family, she resolved to find out more about Bruno, her uncle who disappeared shortly after her failed ceremony. Bruno had the gift of seeing visions of the future, and Mirabel went into his room to try and find out more information. She discovered shards of green glass that formed an image of her standing in front of the cracked house, then told her father about it...only for Dolores, who has the power of super-hearing, to overhear them. At a dinner that night celebrating Isabela's incoming marriage to Mariano, the son of an influential family in the village, Dolores told other members of the family and chaos ensued, with many members' powers going on the fritz. Mirabel escaped to find Bruno, who turned out to have never left and was hiding in the walls of the house.
Mirabel resolved to try and finish Bruno's vision (he'd left after seeing it in order to protect her from further ostracizing). When they did, it showed her and Isabela hugging in front of the house. Despite being disgusted by this, Mirabel went to find her, which resulted in Isabela first demanding an apology, then revealing that she never wanted to marry Mariano, resulting in a cactus forming amidst her beautiful flowers. Stunned, Isabela realized that she loved making "imperfect" things, and she and Mirabel truly hugged, only to be interrupted by Alma. She was still upset about the evening fiasco and got into an argument with Mirabel, accusing her of hurting them on purpose. Mirabel fired back that it was her fault for putting so much pressure on the family. As a result of the argument, the Casita cracked and fell away, snuffing out the candle and leaving the entire family powerless. Mirabel fled to be alone at the river, but Alma found her and explained that her husband Pedro died in front of her just before the miracle that created the Casita occurred. She took responsibility for her failures and they ultimately rejoined the family, Bruno included. The village came to help rebuild the Casita, and the powers-as well as the family bonds-were restored.
Ambitions:
Now that she has a better relationship with her family, Mirabel's primary ambition is to continue growing closer to them and helping the various members be the best versions of themselves.
Strengths & abilities:
Mirabel is quite physically fit, able to endure long runs and jumps with relative ease. She is also a very confident singer and dancer, as well as able to play instruments like the accordion. Emotionally, she can get people to open up through either prodding or empathy.
Flaws:
She can be a little quick to judge or assume that she's correct about something without having the full information. Though she IS working on this in the wake of her reconciliation, especially with Abuela Alma and Isabela.
Likes:
Her family, the Casita, dancing, singing, going through the village.
Dislikes:
Sand, rooms that are difficult to navigate, being blamed for things that aren't her fault.
Fears:
Feeling like she's worthless, losing her family.
