charrie basics.[/ul]
age: One year
species: Golden Retriever
birthplace: Paradise Falls, South America
movie: Up!
title:
Hi there!
why: I picked Dug here because when I watched Up for the first time a few days ago (yes, I’m a little late!), I absolutely fell in love with him. As a little girl I had a golden retriever, and Dug just reminded me of him in so many ways. So lovable, so full of energy and excitement, and had the whole ‘pointing’ thing down to a T. I only wish my dog had one of those special training collars so I could have understood him, too. =P

charrie appearance[/ul]
facial description/mood expressions: Dug has a very animated puppy face that expresses a lot of the canine’s emotions. His nose is big, dark, and dominant and probably one of the first things one might notice when first spotting the dog. His eyes are a brilliant brown that could warm anyone right up, even when the ‘puppy dog face’ is needed, because really who could stay mad at that? That could melt even the coldest of hearts right up. When he’s happy and excited, his tongue will be out and ready to plant some kisses, and sometimes it’ll just loll out to the side. His ears will droop if he’s feeling sad, but they’ll perk up a bit if he hears something while he’s trackin’.
clothing style: N/A
body build: His thick, poofy fur make him seems a bit bigger than he really is, but he is an average, good-sized golden retriever. He has a long, fluffy tail, short legs, and pretty big paws.
any unique traits (optional) : The big, brown, high-tech collar around him might catch the eye, especially when it lights up red while he’s talking.

original charrie analysis.[/ul]
history: Dug was born in Paradise Falls, South Carolina, and was one of the many dogs bred by Charles Muntz. Even as a puppy he was different from the rest, and not just in appearance. He cared for his master for more than just the treats he’d give them, and wanted to make him proud in any way he could. He wasn’t just lighter in color than the others, he was also much more lighthearted. As soon as he was old enough, he would do everything he could to make his master happy.
Being presented with the gift of speech thanks to his master’s brilliant translating collar, Dug was able to communicate with humans through English, Spanish, Japanese, and a handful of other languages just in case. He was trained to be a tracker, one of the many who would track down and attempt to capture the large, flightless bird for their master. The other dogs found him to be an annoyance from the start and would often send him out alone on “special missions” to find the bird himself, worried he’s mess things up if he tagged along with them. Dug would merrily agree, thinking their “ways to get rid of Dug” were actually very important honors, and would try his best to find the bird himself. He was a great tracker, after all!
Of course no one ever thought that one of the times they sent him alone he would actually find the bird! Alpha, Beta, and Gamma definitely never thought it possible, but after contacting Dug and seeing the bird through his tiny camera (along with a small mailman), they tracked him down.
During this time Dug immediately adored Carl Fredricksen and Russell, warming up to them and telling them that he loved them. He begged the bird to come back with him and be his prisoner, but to no avail. He continued to follow the three of them, even staying with them through the night despite how much Carl made it known that he didn’t want him there. When they awoke the next morning, the bird had disappeared!.. onto the roof. Dug assists the one who smells of prunes by telling the bird to get down, until they realize the bird is a female calling to her babies. The bird leaves to go feed them while Dug stays with his new friends.
Until Alpha and the others appear, which Dug is then forced to explain that he no longer has the bird and is very ashamed. The others take him and the two humans back to their master, and when they make it back, Alpha forces Dug to wear the Cone of Shame for discipline in losing the bird… which Dug does not like. Soon after, when everyone realizes the bird is back on the roof of Carl’s house, the dogs all go after Dug’s new friends. Not wanting his friends hurt, he goes against the other dogs and throughout the chase he saves his friends by giving them an escape route and knocking boulders in the other dogs’ way. Near the end of the escape, Dug has to think of a quick plan to save his friends once more, which he quickly comes up with an idea to stop the dogs by saying, “Stop you dogs!” Unfortunately, this does not work, and the furious Alpha attacks him and rips the Cone of Shame off in the process.
Having nowhere else to go, Dug follows his new friends and concludes that Carl is his new master. They go to help bring Kevin back to her children, but unfortunately Dug’s collar has led Charles Muntz and the others right to them. They take Kevin away, and since Carl had gone to save his house from the fire instead of the bird, Russell is upset. Which leaves Carl to also be upset, and when Dug tries to cheer him up he is instead yelled at and told he “is a bad dog!” This hurts the canine’s feelings for a while, but his devoted love for his master shines through and he forgives him and stays under his porch.
Until Carl realizes what he has to do and the house soon starts to raise again. Dug asks to come in the house, which Carl immediately allows for his new pet/ Once they catch up with Muntz, they save Russell before going to free Kevin. Once on the ship, Dug’s great tracking abilities he finds an alternate route to get to the bird. They free Kevin, but before they escape they are thwarted by Muntz and all the other dogs. Muntz goes after Carl, leaving Dug to deal with all his former ‘friends’. He retreats until he can’t any more, and when Alpha goes after him he does the only thing he can – traps him with the Cone of Shame. Alpha then commands the others to do something, but because he is wearing the Cone of Shame (and he sounds funny once again), the others view Dug as the new Alpha.
Once that is all done and they are all safe, they return Kevin to her babies and all is well. Dug’s new master Carl and friend Russell take him back to the city with them, and the three of them all are better off and happy as can be.
ambitions: To make his master happy, to be the best tracker around, and to make all of his friends happy too.
strengths && abilities: He can be a good tracker at times, but what he’s really good at is being man’s best friend. He can and will be your best friend if you let him, and he’s extremely loyal and friendly to those he cares about.
flaws: He’s naïve, simple-minded, and can be very gullible at times, trusting villains as easily as the heroes if they’re nice to him.
likes: The one who smells of prunes (Carl, his master), the small mailman (Russell), his prisoner (Kevin), tennis balls, attention, and a treat every now and then is nice too.
dislikes: The Cone of Shame, people who hurt/want to hurt his master and friends such as Charles Muntz, squirrels, being called a “bad dog”.
fears: His master getting hurt, his friends getting hurt, feeling lonely or abandoned.
what makes this character unique: He has a translating collar that allows him to talk, and he’s certainly not afraid to tell people that he loves them!
RP SAMPLE:
Well, this place was certainly not one the golden retriever had seen before. There were so many people that crowded-no, flooded the streets that the canine did not know what to do. No familiar faces, no familiar sounds, and definitely no master or Russell. Being lost was not something the dog enjoyed, especially when he was alone. His ears drooped a bit and tail ceased its wagging, stopping mid-trot in the crowd of people and plopping into a sit as he looked up to them. Certainly some human would be kind enough to assist a lost pup?
When it seemed pretty obvious that the humans were too busy doing their own thing to acknowledge Dug, he was about to give up until a small noise caught his attention. His ears raised a bit as he listened closely for it to happen again, and when there was an audible ‘squeak’ he jumped to his feet- er, paws. Certainly, that couldn’t have been a small, fluffy— “Squirrel!” A few heads turned at his outburst, but the skilled tracker was already taking off after the rodent.
Nearly catching up to it, he was forced to stop when the squirrel began climbing a tree. Dug was no climber. He put his paws on the trees’ trunk, his eyes glued on the furry creature as it continued on higher and higher. A low, barely audible growl escaped the dog as he watched the squirrel. “I would appreciate it if you would come down now!” he called up. “Please, I would very much like to catch you!” When the only reaction to come from the squirrel was a snicker, Dug decided a new approach was in order.
“I will stay down here until you are ready to come down then.” He hopped off the trunk and plopped his behind back onto the ground, tail wagging in anticipation. After a few moments of nothing, the dog was beginning to become impatient. Hopping to his paws again he began to circle the tree, barking up at the squirrel a few times. When still nothing happened, Dug slumped down into a laying position, a helpless whine coming from his throat. “You are not a very nice squirrel, are you?”
