age: 21
species: Human
birthplace: Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg, located in the region of Alsace in France
movie: Beauty and the Beast
title:
Prince of Enchantment
why: I’ve always enjoyed the Beast as a character, mostly because I can really identify with his combination of awful temper problems and a secret weakness for romance. I value my privacy, like he does, and I throw some major temper tantrums when things go very wrong. But on the inside...well, it’s nicer on the inside. WE’RE NICE, WE PROMISE!

charrie appearance[/ul]
facial description/mood expressions: In general, Adam isn’t a terribly expressive person. It makes him hard to understand sometimes, because one can’t judge how he feels by his face, but he’s lucky to have found a princess who understands perfectly. His eyebrows are the same light brownish red as his hair, and he has a strong chin. His features wouldn’t quite be classified as “angular”, but the hardness of them just screams “I have the strength and could beat you to a pulp if I wanted”. Last but not least is Adam’s most well-known feature, his startlingly blue eyes. According to Belle, they radiate intensity, the kind that hovers on the line between passionate and frightening. No matter what form he takes, Adam’s eyes will always give him away.
clothing style: Adam is very into casual Fridays. In fact, he likes to be casual every day! His usual clothing consists of basic brown, black, or navy blue breeches, a basic white or tan peasant-style shirt, and maybe a belt of some dark more-or-less neutral color. As for shoes, well, Adam doesn’t like to wear them often. Only when he has to go outside. After spending so much time as a Beast that really couldn’t wear shoes, you wouldn’t like them either. The shoes Adam avoids wearing are as basic as the rest of his everyday clothes- plain and black.
On dressier occasions, Adam does clean up well. He wears his nice white shirt, and either black or navy blue dress pants with his fabulous blue tailcoat, trimmed with gold. When Belle wears her gold ballgown, the two of them look simply stunning.
body build: Prince Adam has a body that Lizzie McGuire’s Ethan Craft once described as “totally old-school”. All of his strength comes from his muscled upper body, and though he does keep his entire body in shape, his abs are nothing to comment on. As long as he has the upper hand, he can use his well-toned biceps to take care of any enemy. When brought to the ground, however....different story. In any case, Adam has a pretty good sense of balance (thanks to living for years with wolf legs), so the inequality doesn’t bother him on the dance floor He’s like an upside-down pyramid.
any unique traits (optional): The biggest physical trait that makes Adam unique is his impressive muscle. Well hey, it happens when you turn into a monster! Move aside, Prince Phillip, Prince Florian, Prince Charming even- he could take’em all!

original charrie analysis. [/ul]
Prince Adam has a difficult personality to describe. He tends to hit phases that make him a little bit more interesting than your normal, balanced person. In today’s world, he would probably be classified as bipolar. His biggest and most noticeable feature is his temper. Adam has a terrible time trying to control his temper, especially considering that when he gets angry, he gets somewhat violent. Hence the story of how he became a Beast in the first place! Of course, it’s not always his temper that controls him. When Adam is feeling less....heated, he tends to throw all of his energy into a task of some type. One of his favorite things to do is dote upon his lady. He likes doing things for Belle that she will like, and if it isn’t done right, it drives him crazy. Adam isn’t one to just be content- he’s fidgety and task-oriented, and if he doesn’t have anything to do, he’ll find something. That’s just how his mind works. Last but not least, Adam is prone to severe depression. Due to a combination of his genetics and his past, when he gets upset or sad, it goes to an extreme. Before he met Belle, a single bad day could darken the household for weeks at a time. However, Adam is much more aware of his emotional situation, and he does have Belle on his side, so the good days usually outweigh the bad.
history:
Prince Adam de Valois was born in the late 18th century, probably sometime around 1769, at the Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg, in Alsace, in northeastern France. He was a lesser prince, not one of the crown princes, but of royal blood nonetheless. His parents, Lord Jean and Lady Catherine, were social climbers who spent nearly all of their time at court in Paris. Their son, Adam, was left alone at the castle, to rule more or less as he saw fit. This was not the best situation for anyone- Adam was thrown into more responsibility than he ever wished for, and the servants had to live with the fact that his decisions, in essence, sucked. After a few years of it, Adam gave up trying to be an adult. He decided, if he was going to be a prince, then he deserved some of the perks! He began to do things the way he wanted, regardless of whether it was wise, or even remotely advisable. As long as it made him happy, nothing else mattered.
The fief fell into a despairing state. The villagers left, one by one, until all that was left was the castle, and those unfortunate enough to reside there. All of the world revolved around His High and Mightiness, Adam de Valois.
That is, until that one Christmas.
He was seventeen years old, alone at the castle for Christmas, and it was the worst Christmas of his life. Nothing was grand enough! Why couldn’t they all just do things the way he told them to? Was that so hard? And the presents! Oh, the presents were terrible. The servants had gotten him a godforsaken storybook for crying out loud!
A knock was heard at the door, and Adam’s control over his temper flew to the wind. He roared at the trespasser and opened the door, only to find the ugliest old hag he’d ever met, asking him to give her shelter in his castle for the night...in exchange for a rose. The idiocy of it was astounding to him, and Adam bade her go away, slamming the door in her face.
Little did he know that this ugly old hag was really a beautiful enchantress. The doors flew open and she appeared, rose in hand, declaring a curse upon Adam and his household. Pain ripped through his body as he was transformed into a terrible Beast- with “the face of a mandrill, brow of a gorilla, beard and muzzle of a buffalo, tusks of a boar, neck hair of an ibis, and body of a bear atop the legs and tail of a wolf.” His servants bore the curse with him, becoming regular household objects- a candlestick, a clock, a teapot, and many more. The witch told them that the rose she had offered him was an enchanted rose. It would bloom until his twenty-first year. If he could learn to love another and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell...the spell would be broken. If not, the curse would remain on forever. By the time Adam had regained his bearings, the enchantress had gone, leaving only agony behind her.
Four years went by. Four years of torture, four years of anger, four years of nothing but endless pain. Every day the Beast awoke to the same feeling, the cold hopelessness that surrounded him. Nothing would ever change.
But one day, one day it did. It was a cold night in very late autumn, and the Beast and his household were inside for the night when a man stumbled inside. He was an older gentleman who didn’t think twice about wandering into someone else’s home uninvited. The Beast was furious. He cast the man into one of his tower dungeons, planning to leave him there forever. But unlike the Beast, this man, Maurice, had people who cared about him, especially his daughter. She came to the castle seeking her father, tempting the Beast’s rage further. However, the small part of his mind that retained its sense took control. When she offered her life in exchange for his, the Beast took her up on it. He would let her father go free and unharmed, if she would consent to stay there in the castle with him forever. For some odd and unknown reason, she agreed, even after seeing his ghastly form. All the Beast had said was done, Maurice was sent back to the village and his daughter remained behind. Her name was Belle.
She became the Beast’s sole un-cursed companion, and boy was she a spitfire when she wanted to be. She didn’t put up with his nonsense most of the time, and it was only through her kindness that the Beast began to lose his agony...she was the reason he became Adam again. After a while he even dared to love her. But that wasn’t enough to break the spell, unfortunately. She had to love him in return. The Beast thought it would never happen, but his strange staff thought otherwise. They trained him up like a gentleman, and eventually he could be in the same room with her without resenting his existence entirely.
Life in the castle began to brighten up a bit, until his weaknesses shone through. He asked if she was happy, hoping to get a positive response, and was saddened to hear that she was upset by her separation from her father. The Beast offered to let her use his magic seeing mirror to see her father again, and the vision was not at all what either of them expected. Maurice was sick, stuck wandering in the cold forest, on the brink of death. Immediately, both Belle and the Beast knew what had to be done. Though it broke his heart to do it, all he wanted was for her to be happy, and if this was what it took...then so be it. He released her from their agreement, and she raced home to save her father. The Beast retreated into his apartments in the West Wing, sinking into a depression the likes of which he had never experienced.
Shortly after Belle’s departure, the Beast was curled up in his rooms, brooding as usual, when the housekeeper/teapot Mrs. Potts came to tell him that the castle was under attack. Distracted as he was, the Beast paid no mind to it. He didn’t care. Belle was gone and his life was destroyed. “Let them come,” he said. Not even death could be worse than this agony.
Of course, what he didn’t know was that the attacking mob’s leader only wanted Belle for himself. When Gaston (for that was his name) reached the West Wing, the Beast was forced only to fend him off without having the will for any offensive attack. That is, until he heard his name called. The Beast turned around to see Belle on the ground far below him, her face obviously worried for him. Her return was all the incentive he needed. Within moments, his impressive strength had Gaston defeated. The Beast threw him aside and went to Belle, only to have that traitorous wretch stab him in the back. Luckily, he wasn’t a great climber- Gaston lost his grip and fell hundreds of feet into the mist, to his death.
As the Beast lay on the West Wing balcony, breathing his last breaths, he was captivated by Belle’s tear-stained face. She was so beautiful...and with her in his heart, he fell into unconsciousness.
The next thing he knew, his body was being rearranged from the inside, his nerves on fire. Not painful, like the enchantress’ spell, but more like fireworks. Intense. His vision was spotted with colors and shapes he couldn’t make out, and he felt cold stone against his cheek. Sitting up, he looked down to see hands, instead of paws. Skin, rather than fur! It was him, it was Adam again. No Beast. Just Adam. He spun round, eyes searching, and found the one person he wanted to see more than anyone in the world...
“Belle...”
She looked uneasy.
“It’s me!”
But when she saw his eyes, there was nothing more to be said.
The castle and its inhabitants were returned to their former glory, and Prince Adam got his Princess. In the words of Prince Derek, “What else is there?”

what makes this character unique:
Adam is a special prince because he’s not the hero from Day One like all the others. He’s a jerk, he’s egotistical, and he certainly doesn’t sweep the lady off her feet to begin. It is she who is the angel, and he the demon who must rise to her level. This makes him different than any other prince we’ve heard of, he has to change. His goal is not to attain beauty, like Prince Charming, or to find such a trivial thing as a song, like Florian. He takes the time to get to know Belle before falling for her. Of all of the classic Disney matches, this one is the one most likely to last.
RP SAMPLE:
Against his usual conduct, Adam tried to keep his feet as quiet as possible as he made a mad dash for the library. If there was anywhere he could hide, it would be there.
“Belle?” he called, trying to keep his voice low as he approached the library doors. No immediate answer. “Belle?!” he called again, more urgently this time. As he predicted, the library door opened, and he breathed a sigh of relief when it was his wife he saw. “Adam? What are you yelling about, my love?” she asked, somewhat confused.
He tried to maintain a dignified front, clasping his hands behind his back, but he wouldn’t meet her eyes. “Belle,” he said, trying to sound serious. “I need you to rescue me again.” He tucked a loose strand of hair back into his ponytail, where it belonged. Of course, she raised her eyebrow, taking him as silly- which he was, but he really didn’t have the time for it right now. Her arms folded across her chest, and Adam widened his big blue eyes in a play for sympathy. “Rescue you, Adam?” she said, a smile spreading across her face. “From what?”
Adam opened his mouth to explain, but was cut short by the sound of Cogsworth’s voice echoing down the long corridor. Time of the essence, he got down on one knee and threw his arms around Belle’s legs like a four-year-old. “Please, please hide me,” he begged, grinning triumphantly when she pulled him to his feet and into the library.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” he said when the door was closed, smiling like an idiot as he wrapped her in a tender embrace and planted a kiss on her lips. “I was at that paperwork for seven hours straight. St Joseph's day off for the carpenters, St Lawrence's day off for the cooks and chefs-” He didn’t realize he was rambling until she silenced him with a finger to his lips. “Shh,” she said, a sparkle in those beautiful brown eyes. “I know, I know. This was the first quiet moment I’ve had since our wedding day.” For about half a second he felt bad for ruining that quiet, but then, he hadn’t gotten to see her very much in recent days, so there wasn’t too much of a problem in his eyes.
A knock came at the door, and Adam looked around frantically for a place to hide, but Belle was already on it. She carefully opened the library door and managed to send the pompous Cogsworth off on a wild goose chase- something about tending roses. Concealed behind a stone pillar, Adam dissolved into fits of silent laughter until the ridiculous butler had disappeared. He snuck up behind Belle and grabbed her around the waist, pulling her back so he could kiss her again, still grinning. He loved being with her, she made his life...wonderful. What ever would he do without his Belle?
