I'm surprised no one else has made a thread about this movie yet.
So has anyone else seen this latest film from Disney/Pixar?
I recently have, and I got to say that I think it's quite good, despite some of the harshness of several critics out there (which I heard about from other people I know).
Set in the highlands of 10th century Scotland, the story is about a young and skilled archer named Merida who defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in her kingdom. After consulting a witch for help, her family becomes cursed and Merida is forced to undo the spell herself before it is too late.
I don't get why some critics were being harsh to it; granted, this film is different from any film Disney/Pixar has done before, but maybe that is why that harshness is there. It's like they thought it had a different tone than the type Disney/Pixar is often associated with (even I thought at times it was made by a different studio, like Dreamworks). They might also think that it isn't that original or new; I thought it seemed original of a movie, even if it seemed to have tiny sprinkles of a few concepts from "Brother Bear," "Robin Hood" and "How to Train Your Dragon" all rolled into one.
On it's own, though, there are a lot of things about the movie that still work. The animation, of course, is really impressive, even in the 3D format. The script is handled really well in mixing in enough of the variety of emotions the audience is supposed to feel (like humor, scariness, sadness and joy), which Disney/Pixar often does well at.
Oh, and there is a reason it's rated PG; there are a few scenes that do get intense even for little kids.
I'd say give it a watch. ^^ Don't forget to stay after the end credits, for there is an extra scene that's kind of funny. lol
