Character basics
Character name: Elsa of Arendelle
Age: 24
Species: Human
Birthplace: Arendelle
Movie: Frozen and Frozen II
Custom title: The Fifth Spirit
Why: Largely because I envy her imperviousness to the cold and her ability to make snow vanish. But also because Elsa has so much potential as a character in the site. She can use her powers to help people. She would be interesting to have here, and I want to explore the possibilities.
Who's the fairest of them all?
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Elsa's thick hair can be considered platinum blonde, but she thinks of it as white like the snow. She often wears it in a single braid over her left shoulder with crystallized snowflakes as decoration, though she can also be frequently seen with her hair down.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Elsa has icy blue eyes set in a pale face. As a queen and from years of practice, she hides her emotions quite well, unless she's around her sister Anna, or Olaf.
Clothing style: Elsa favors the blue dress she created from ice when she lived in isolation on the North Mountain: a floor-length gown with off-the-shoulder long sleeves and a slit reaching her lower thigh. Crystal shoes, also made of ice, adorn her feet. Her other preferred gown is the white one she (and the elemental spirits) formed in Ahtohallan.
Body build: Elsa is slender and tall, but she does have womanly curves. She is the mirror image of her mother, except for her hair.
Any unique traits (optional): Elsa has the ability to control ice and snow. She can bring snowmen to life with her powers, as well as craft clothes and shoes.
Curiouser and curiouser about..
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality: Elsa is far more introverted than her sister. She prefers to keep to herself, but she is not afraid to speak with others and make friends, particularly when they're introduced by Anna. From years of practice, Elsa is good at containing and hiding her emotions, so it can be difficult to determine how she feels. A good indicator is to look at whatever snow or ice surrounds her. When Elsa is in a good mood, the ice is blue and strong. When she is distraught, the snow will suspend in midair, frozen in space. When she is frightened, the ice will turn red and crack.
History: Elsa was born to the king and queen of Arendelle on the winter solstice. She discovered at an early age that she could control and even generate ice and snow, and that the cold had no effect on her. When she was three, Anna was born. Elsa was very excited to have a younger sister to play with.
Elsa loved Anna very much. She was often unable to resist her sister's pleas to play, especially when asked if Elsa wanted to build a snowman. But Elsa made a mistake when she was eight, a mistake that set her on a course of fear. She struck Anna in the head with a blast of ice. It wasn't her fault, it was an accident, but Elsa was filed with grief.
A visit to the trolls solved the problem, but Anna's memories were changed. Anna no longer knew that Elsa had powers. Their parents separated the princesses' bedrooms, to protect both of them. For the next thirteen years, Elsa lived in isolation in her bedroom. She was terrified of hurting her parents and refused to let them touch her. And every time Anna knocked to play, Elsa ignored the younger princess.
Elsa's parents died when she was eighteen, and she was so in fear of her powers that she didn't attend the funeral. Fear and guilt continued to consume the older prices of Arendelle, and her bedroom froze over. While the cold didn't bother Elsa, she missed her sister and parents terribly.
Elsa turned 21 and became queen. Anxiety nearly overwhelmed the fear. During the coronation, Elsa shook with emotion, all but revealing her secret to the people of Arendelle. She made it through coronation mostly without incident (ice had begun to creep up the scepter during the ceremony), but she still had to get through the party. Everything was going well: she had bonded with Anna over chocolate and the sprightly Duke of Weselton, she had met plenty of dignitaries and many of the kind citizens of Arendelle itself. But when Anna announced her engagement to Prince Hans, Elsa couldn't help but show disapproval. She denied her blessing and told the guards to close the gates.
Elsa felt her fear growing as she argued with Anna and she struck out, causing large sharp spikes of ice to grow from the ground. She fled the ballroom but she couldn't seem to get away from the crowd of people wishing to see the queen. She escaped the castle and raced across the fjord, unknowingly leaving a wintery curse on Arendelle.
Elsa wandered for hours, finally reaching the North Mountain where she let her rigidity and composition go. For the first time in thirteen years, Elsa felt free. She played with her powers without fear of hurting anyone and saw beauty in her ability, creating a snowman (which she would later discover had life) and flawless ice sculptures. She built herself a beautiful ice palace, hidden away from the world, where she lived in comfort. Until Anna arrived with news of Arendelle's fate: the city was frozen, and locked in winter.
Another fight, another accident; only this time, it was Anna's heart. Elsa summoned a monstrous snowman guard and Anna left, but the former queen of Arendelle wasn't alone for long. Men from Arendelle arrived, and they weren't friendly. Things spiraled out of control and Elsa was knocked out after dodging the falling chandelier in her palace. Elsa awoke alone in the dungeon of Arendelle, her hands ended in metal. She managed to escape with help from her powers, though she didn't know exactly how.
Elsa fled across the fjord again, where she met Hans, who told her Anna was dead. Grief overwhelmed the young queen again, and she sank to the ground, not caring what happened to her. Unseen by Elsa, Anna showed up between Elsa and Hans and turned into a solid ice statute before Hans could strike the queen. Elsa looked up to see Anna frozen before her, and her tears flowed down her face. She was hugging the statute when it suddenly melted and Anna stood before her, unharmed. It was then that Elsa learned the big secret to her powers: love would break the spell. With all of her fear vanished, Elsa lifted the spell on Arendelle, returning summer to the land.
Elsa decreed that the gates would never again be closed, and she lived happily with Anna and Kristoff in the castle of Arendelle.
Three years later, Elsa began hearing a voice sing to her. She accidentally (?) woke the spirits one night when she sang back to the voice, prompting her (and to her dismay, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven) on a journey to the north, where they met the Northuldrans. From there, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf went further north. They found the ruins of their parents' ship, and Elsa found the truth of where they had gone six years earlier. They sought Ahtohallan, and answers about Elsa and her powers. Stricken with grief that it was her fault they'd died, Elsa forced Anna and Olaf away, and continued her journey alone.
She crossed the North Sea with some help from the water spirit. She found Ahtohallan, and within she found the truth about the past. Her grandfather hadn't built the dam out of friendship; he wanted the Northuldrans to have to depend on him and Arendelle. Instead, the spirits had turned against the Northuldrans and the Arendellians, causing the fog that trapped so many people within the enchanted forest.
In her search for the truth, however, Elsa went too far, and she found herself frozen. Her last thought was of Anna, and making sure Anna had the answer she needed to save the forest and be able to return to Arendelle.
The next thing she knew, she was falling. The Nokk caught her after her descent into water, and pulled her back to the surface, where she knew she had to save Arendelle from a massive flood. She did, and from there, she returned to Anna.
She abdicated the throne in favor of Anna, which also allowed Elsa to stay in the enchanted forest with the Northuldrans. She still visits Arendelle on occasion, for Family Game Nights.
