Who am I? Just a conscience!
Introduce yourself
Hey, howdy, hey! The name's MAGGIE, and I wished upon a star from ADS. My other imaginary friends include TRIPLETS ETC. ROSA and I are so very eager to join the Worlds of Disney circle of life!
Character basics
Character name: Rosa Rivera
Age: 14
Species: Human
Birthplace: Santa Cecilia
Movie: Coco
Custom title: The duitful grandaughter
Why'd you pick this character? Background character though she is, in rewatching, Rosa has started to really intrigue me. She's about Miguel's age but seemingly opposite in that she is fine with shoe making, though I don't get that she put up much of a fight about music returning, despite all her teasing. She seems fun and I would love to explore her exploring the park!
Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Black, straight hair. No bangs. All kept back in a pony tail with a flower headband.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Rosa's cheeks and face are still a bit rounded with youth, but are slowly starting to show their natural definitions, childish roundness aside, and as she grows. She's often smiling, and her eyes behind her trim rimmed glasses happily squinted in it, but more in an amused way and especially if Miguel has said something. Or smiling happily and determined if fixing a shoe or more recently in experimenting with her violin
Clothing style: Jeans, flower patterned shirt. Well made flats.
Body build: Despite her Abeuelita's best efforts, Rosa is on the slim side same as her primo Miguel. About his height also. She shows the signs of being slender, but perhaps not tall.
Any unique traits (optional): None
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
From an early age Rosa has been called Sensible, and she continues to carry this trait into early adolescence. The child to just quietly play with her blocks, she now sits at making shoes (or playing her violin) with the same sense. This doesn’t make her dull by any means (to herself) and she also has a quick wit, which she uses most against her “kid” cousin Miguel, but out of fondness.
History:
Born five years after her older brother, Abel, to Elena’s son Berto and his wife Carmen, Rosa was the first and only granddaughter to the family for a while.
Two years older than her cousin Miguel, it was hard to avoid what he was into (except for the willfully hidden music interest) and Rosa found herself having to “keep an eye” on him or such even as she was the same young generation as him. As such she had clues, just in him “acting weird”, especially ever since that trip where Tía Luisa took him to the market and he came back excited about something.
For the most part, Rosa let his business be just that, and only began teasing him good natured as a way to deal with him, and show her own care in an odd way.
Things were alright up until the Dia de los Muertos Miguel was 12, that was when everything came to a head. Rosa herself had asked to be put in the shop at ten; Miguel straggled until 12 and then Tío Enrique and Abuelita kind of made him...
Shortly after that he came onto the roof proclaiming something about Ernesto and Mama Coco’s Papa.
Abuelita discovered his secret stash of musical records and a guitar, and in a fit of fear for him, smashed the guitar, urging Miguel to declare he didn’t care if they remembered him on their important offrenda and run off. Rosa was as shocked and hurt as everyone else but thought surely her uncle would find him quickly when the adults and Abel went looking.
Rosa did her part watching her twin brothers, Manny and Benny, and telling her worries to them the longer the adults didn’t come back with Miguel.
Finally Mama came and urged her to bed, but Rosa hardly slept. She went in and slept on a pallet in Mama Coco’s room even just for the comfort of her great-grandmother’s presence, if she didn’t say anything.
She awoke early to check if anything had been found, being halfway across the house when she heard a commotion. Miguel had come back! But had rushed in and locked the door to Mama Coco’s room! Tío Enrique banged on the door until Abuelita came with a key and unlocked it, then the whole family charged in...to the oddest scene.
Miguel didn’t even acknowledge he’d been gone, just addressed Mama Coco, later producing the guitar from Ernesto’s tomb (even Rosa knew what it was)! She avoided the conclusion this gave and just listened and watched stunned with the rest of the family as Miguel sung and strummed and got Mama Coco to respond!
Mama Coco then looked at and saw them all for the first time in a while, and told them stories about her Papa, who had not been what Abuelita had said. What Mama Imelda had thought.
Rosa thought it all fantastic of course, and was delighted to watch music come back. She didn’t think of playing, herself, until Miguel encouraged her to, showing her how to hold and play a violin, Rosa able to play it pretty well by the next Dia de los Muertos.
Ambitions:
Make her family proud. Be known for well made shoes as well. Get better at her violin and embrace both sides of the family traditions. Keep her family, especially her toddler brothers and slightly younger cousin, safe.
Strengths & abilities:
Level headed. Resourceful. Obedient. Smart and Witty. A quick learner. Talented at both shoes and violin (thanks to Miguel's help)
Flaws:
Conformists. Doesn't push or question a rule. Doesn't always know when her teasing is too far. Adventurousness doesn't stretch past the shoe shop on her own.
Likes:
Her family. Making shoes. The violin. Exploring music and allowed whistling in the work shop again.
Dislikes:
Anyone disappointing family. Chaos. Arguments. Getting something wrong in either shoe making or playing.
Fears:
Used to be Miguel being chased off either by music or Abuelita's strictness. Other sorts of family disruptions from it. Losing family in a general way. That the Land of the Dead may not actually exist despite what Miguel says.
Anything to add?:
Nope
