Character appearance (try to get at least 2 or 3 sentences for each section)
Hair description: Lefou sports a mop of shaggy brown hair which he keeps tied back after the fashion of men of his era. His scrawny little ponytail is not very impressive.
Facial description/mood/expressions: Like the rest of him, Lefou's face is round and pudgy, punctuated by a pug nose made reddish by all that time spent at the tavern. His teeth are straggly, and he has permanent bags under his eyes, caused by worrying when Gaston will strike him next. His expression, when not one of cruelty, does not bespeak intelligence.
Clothing style: Lefou wears the typical dress of an 18th-century villager. His extremely short legs make it tough for him to find breeches that fit, hence the long pants when most everyone else is wearing knee-length. He would dress more extravagantly if he could afford it.
Body build: Lefou is unusually short and stubby. He has a round body, short limbs, and thick fingers. He is not particularly agile or in great physical shape, though he can certainly take a licking and keep on ticking.
Any unique traits (optional): Although his voice is a bit nasal and unmusical, he is a surprisingly good singer.
Original character analysis (In your own words and please be thorough)
Personality:
Lefou is an unpleasant little man, a bully at heart who actually enjoys seeing others suffer. The only thing that keeps him from being a true terror is his general puniness. If he happens on someone weaker than himself, or if he manages to get the advantage over someone somehow, he is quite capable of every kind of cruel act.
Since he is so much weaker than average, he usually contents himself with mocking others whenever he can get away with it.
Lefou hates work of any kind, though he is willing to do what he has to if it means staying in Gaston's good graces. This includes being the hunter's punching bag on occasion. If he could take Gaston's place as big man of the village, he would like nothing better than dishing out a little of what he's taken.
Lefou is of average intelligence and content to stay that way. He has no desire for self-improvement of any kind. But he worships status and will attach himself to anyone in order to get it. He would even try attaching himself to a hero, if one would have him, as long as it gave him the reflected glory he sought. Lefou is not above hypocrisy to attain his goals.
History:
Lefou was an average guy who always longed to be great at something. At anything. He wanted the admiration of others. Without any natural advantages to speak of, he could've worked to hone his physical skills, or studied hard to improve his mind, or cultivated any of a dozen different qualities that would bring him praise and recognition. But that would require too much effort.
Instead, Lefou always sought the easy way: cheating at games and school, petty theft, whatever shortcut he could come up with. But he still could not achieve the status he craved.
One day he packed up his worldly goods (along with a few stolen ones) and set out into the wide world in search of a place where he would be appreciated. Stopping in a pub in a quiet village, he encountered a stranger who had everything Lefou had ever wanted. Gaston was huge, handsome, skilled, and reasonably well-off. His affections were sought after by every girl in town, while all the men praised and admired him.
That was the life! If Lefou couldn't be any of those things, he would bask in Gaston's reflected glory.
It was easy to flatter his way into Gaston's good graces, especially if he was willing to take all the abuse that came naturally to the hunter. Lefou soon rose to a position of respect as the Number 2 man in town. Or so he deluded himself. No one really respected him, least of all Gaston. But in Lefou's eyes, he'd achieved a kind of status.
And besides, he got free food at Le Pub.
Ambitions:
To be adored by women and envied by men.
Strengths & abilities:
Except for singing and dancing, at both of which he certainly competent, LeFou isn't really exceptionally good at anything. He's never better than average. Though no genius, he just may be a little smarter than Gaston.
Flaws:
Lazy, physically weak, a bully, no scruples
Likes:
Flattery, freebies, winning any kind of contest (even if he has to cheat); glory (even if it's only reflected); mocking others; seeing someone else put down, pummeled, trampled, or ridiculed (or doing it himself, if they are smaller and weaker)
Dislikes:
Being put down, pummeled, trampled, or ridiculed. But being overlooked is worse than anything.
Hard work
Fears:
Being put down, pummeled, trampled, or ridiculed. Also, beasts, ghost stories, and being attacked by living furniture.
