It's Never Too Late {Morgan/Trick-or-Treating Open}

{Even late as it is couldn't resist so...hence title that also just works for Barley just if you want in on the candy grabbing feel free to join up with the group}

It wasn't a new concept. Well, the costume was, but not the idea of Barley Lightfoot trying to gather candy from the neighborhood at Nineteen! He even did that back at Eighteen (and all the other years) back home. Most times he would hide it in his group from Quests of Yore all meeting up and then their quest of the night being to scour the neighborhood for those fabled razor blades and to keep the other young trick-or-treaters safe.

Of course one needed candy samples to fully ensure...

This year, Shrub Rosehammer and the others were not about, but Barley still had a mission! Beyond seeing, once again, if he could get Ian to come along.

Young princess Morgan (who was as much a princess as he was a knight!), whom he'd run into when he also ran into a local mermaid, Andrina, needed someone who was free to take her about, and Barley had happily volunteered. Andrina was even also coming, no doubt for the little girl's sake (or the candy as well!)

Barley didn't mind, not even if more kids came also, but as for Andrina personally, while she looked just like any other Bean here knowing she was a mermaid helped somehow make interactions that much more comfortable and 'just like back home' (even if her ears were still shaped wrong). The mermaid had said she'd hang out in the lobby handing out candy there until Barley and Morgan came down to set off.

"I think I got it right...", Barley commented to his brother as he came out of his room, glancing at his jacket and holding his mask as he debated if he was going to wear it or not. He was all for authenticity but it did limit sight a bit. "You meanwhile nailed it!.

Barley still wasn't sure what the visitors to the park had been rambling about with Star-lord and Spider-man when they ran into the two Elf brothers, but he had done his research and this Peter Quill character seemed to have an awesome sense of style, so he'd of course hunted up the jacket and other parts to complete the costume and helped Ian find his.

He gave Ian one last chance to come along with them and then headed over to Morgan's room knocking. "Oh Milady Princess Morgan", he called, and used the title whatever she chose to go as, "Your faithful knight awaits to see you on the most noble of quests; that of seeking candy and other prized relics!".

[Fred]

Fred had had a lot on his plate since his arrival at the park. Or parks, to be absolutely correct. He'd already had his first battle, and he was comfortably settled in a hotel suite. But he still needed a secret hero base, the next thing on his agenda.

But that would have to wait; everything would have to give way to TRICK OR TREAT!

Fred was overjoyed to learn he hadn't missed that most sublime annual ritual. Dressing up, free candy...what's not to love?

There wasn't time to order a costume, so he was forced to take one off the rack. But there were no super-heroes he'd ever heard of, and that was really saying something. So he purchased a set of tights with a cape and a winged helmet that came with a way-cool giant hammer. And a pile of comic books so he could do some serious research into this character.

Thus armed for battle, Fred approached the first treat stop on his tour.

"Hail, dwellers in Midgard," he cried in his most stentorian voice. "Hast thou any treats worthy of the god of thunder?"

[Andrina]

Dressing up to hide their identity and gathering candy under these pretenses seemed to be the aim of this human tradition of Trick-or-Treating.

Even years accustomed to the tradition, it was odd Andrina had to admit; and she could only imagine what her father would say on it. Fact that she'd never heard of it from Eric (though her interactions had been limited to the shore limit) would only make Triton excuse his criticism as his son-in-law being better than that etc.

In choosing a costume for herself, Andrina was perhaps being petty and teasing back from when she had met Barley and he had subsequently questioned her status as a mermaid! Something Morgan had corrected him on, and the princess now liked both well enough. Ok that was unfair, Morgan's wide-eyed fascination was more than a bit flattering. Still, in a bit of payback, Andrina had chosen to be an Elf Princess, and was sure the version she'd found with flowing gown and such was not correct from Barley's world.

She was planning up to ask him if he ears were correct now though when she caught an exclamation she thought came from the loud Elf for a moment and before realizing the voice was different. Oh, no it was the human kid who just came in

"Hail, dwellers in Midgard, Hast thou any treats worthy of the god of thunder?"

Andrina turned to him, "Well, tall order, but...peanut butter cup?", she dug in her "hand-out" bucket she would just just leave for a Take One situation when they left, and held out one before thinking better of it maybe. "Oh sorry is that deadly? I've learned it could be deadly".

The six year old Princess Morgan was already dressed in her light up costume, but she was distracted by twirling around in front of the mirror and waving her wand around. Princesses weren't supposed to have wands, but she was insisting on bringing it only because she liked the fluffy wand from her fairy costume too much. Ever since she met Barley and Ian, she was fascinated by magic, so she decided to have a staff or wand of her own.. like a Wizard Princess! Suffice it to say, Morgan was at least happily distracted instead of remembering how her daddy would take her trick or treating and fret over being safe about the whole thing. The princess in pink was trapped in her own fairytale that she had imagined for herself until she was summoned back to reality upon hearing knocks on her door and the sound of Barley. "It's time for Trick or Treating, Jessie!" Morgan exclaimed excitedly to her doll and then quickly placed her in the Jack-O-Lantern bucket, though sticking out so that she could still see what was going on. "You can be in charge of the candy," She smiled at the cowgirl doll, knowing that Jessie would protect any candy from spilling out.      

"Your faithful knight awaits to see you on the most noble of quests; that of seeking candy and other prized relics!"

"Hi, Sir Barley!" Princess Morgan greeted Barley shyly with a giggle, remembering how Barley taught her to greet knights with Sir in front of their names as she opened the door with one hand, the other holding her jack-o-lantern bucket with Jessie poking out of it. "I like your costume!" She complimented him with a smile, finding it very stylish on him. "I forgot.. Are you from Star Wars?" Morgan whispered to him sheepishly, recalling him mentioning he was a star lord of some kind. Morgan didn't know much about superheroes, except for Dash, the superhero that helped her the one time her credit card was stolen. "I got you a candy bucket from the Star Wars world!" She turned away to get it from the table, not realizing how unsafe it was to simply leave the door open like that. Thankfully, Barley wasn't a stranger. "Here! You gotta have a place to put your candy in!" Morgan smiled brightly as she lifted up the candy bucket that appeared to be Darth Vader.  The six year old New Yorker didn't know the difference between Star Lord and Star Wars, thinking that they were the same thing, but the New Yorker simply thought it was going to be perfectly matched!

As soon as they were ready to go, Morgan obediently stuck by Barley's side as they commenced their Halloween Trick Or Treating festivities once they would head out to the lobby.

Morgan hadn't yet shared the idea of a Wizard Princess with him, but Barley would back her up that it was totally a thing! He should perhaps feel bad at having the girl tag him as Sir Barley, but then she had been the one to first call him a knight...and if she wanted to do such, who was he to stop her or stifle her imagination?

Though Barley maintained that fantasy elements were as real here as they had been in his world.

Mateo, who lived on the other side of the Riveras, was proof...even if he came from another world himself.

But to their mission at hand!

"I like your costume! I forgot.. Are you from Star Wars?"

"Why thankyou, Milady, and same to you!", Barley gave a very knight-ish bow. "Uh, I think so", Barley, who didn't know any better, answered on his Star-lord costume, and really it was an honest mistake, the same word being in both the title of the character and movie.

At Morgan's words on getting him a candy bucket, Barley realized he had left his backpack-like-bag he meant to use for that purpose, and which went with the costume he felt. Thankfully Morgan's find was perfect. "Why thankyou Morgan, this is perfect", he said, looking at the bucket and using just her name for once to show his sincerity.

"Come on", he then waved, "Let's begin our quest!". He made sure to let Morgan close the door to her hotel room firmly, but the lack of any adult guardians to come check on and meet Barley himself didn't immediately cross Barley's mind and so he was still unaware she as a minor raising herself technically, but for her doll.

As they headed down to the lobby, Barley noticed Andrina was already there, and handing out candy as she'd said she would.

[Fred]

The gowned girl offered Fred a wrapped candy.

peanut butter cup?

Ah, the first treat of the night! Fred always felt it had a special, almost mystical significance. "Hmmm," he replied, staying in character, of course, "What is this 'peanut butter' thou speakest of? We have not such things in immortal Asgard. Still, I shall take thine offering with thanks."

"Oh sorry is that deadly? I've learned it could be deadly"

"What?!? Deadly, thou sayst? Ha, ha-ha! The god of thunder dost laugh at death!" Seizing the candy, Fred gave it a stern look. "I shall vanquish thee, o peanut butter cup, thus!" With that, he tore the wrapper off and tossed it into his mouth, chewing, he hoped, in a masterful manner. Fortunately, Fred had never suffered from peanut allergies.

"Thou'rt now safe from the evil candy, fair maid." Man, this Asgard stuff totally rocked!

[Andrina]

"Hmmm, What is this 'peanut butter' thou speakest of? We have not such things in immortal Asgard. Still, I shall take thine offering with thanks."

This was all part of it, and the Nightly Disguise, apparently, though she hadn't seen an adult take it so seriously before. Actually...scratch that, though she'd yet to see what costume Barley chose, Andrina had a feeling he would, or was, taking it just as seriously.

Andriana just kept a small smile on her face as she watched this other boy about her and Barley's ages 'play' and vanquishing of the candy.

"Well, that is so good to know!", Andrina didn't know how Elf Princesses were supposed to act, but she could play up the Dainty and Can't be Bothered to Fight Their Own Battles part, insulting as it perhaps was to those like her and Ariel who were anything but. "Thankyou so much my good knight".

The Wizard Princess Morgan smiled shyly across her chubby little cheeks upon seeing Barley genuflect with such a knightly bow. She also remembered to curtsy in return. Her smile brightened even further at the mention of him liking the Star Wars candy bucket that she had picked out for him! She caught that he said her name this time and not with a title, so she smiled endearingly that he thought it was perfect for his outfit. Well, she did like to match, after all. "You're welcome, Barley!" She said with a wave of her sparkly puffed wand over at the candy bucket, as if to bless this bucket with many candies in its future. 

Empowered by Barley's words about their quest, the normally shy little girl grew even more excited, "Yeah! Let's go!" After locking the door behind her, the little child of six slipped her hand through the candy bucket that held Jessie propped out from it, much like a purse, and then held her wand with that hand. With her free hand, she took Barley's hand to hold and walked obediently beside him, "I know where they give out really good candy!" Given that she was here last year, Morgan was all about showing Barley the ropes on how Halloween was celebrated here. It was almost like a shopping spree for her! Except this time, they'll be shopping for candy, which was just as good!

As soon as they headed to the lobby, the Wizard Princess parted her lips in awe. "Wow, Andrina! You're a really pretty elf princess!" Morgan complimented the mermaid princess with a tone of admiration. She looked just as pretty as Giselle did in her new dress that she bought for her with daddy's credit card, which was proof that her daddy's credit card was better than a fairy godmother. 

"Is he your.. prince?" Morgan added shyly as she glimpsed over at the new guy in a helmet that appeared to have been talking with Andrina. This situation reminded her of how Prince Edward greeted Giselle at their apartment. "Hi.." She timidly greeted the new guy holding the hammer, glancing over at the hammer he was holding and mildly hoping he wasn't going to act like Prince Edward and point that hammer at them; But if he did, she remained next to Barley just in case she would need to step in front of him to protect him.

Darkwing wasn't too pleased by the prospect of being magically trapped inside a theme park filled with strange faced creatures known as humans and unable to return home. Already he's tried escaping through the park's exit numerous times since his arrival only to somehow magically find himself back in the park and usually he would land someplace really annoying too. Almost as though the park itself was taunting him. And on top of all that he couldn't get much privacy. He couldn't even take two steps without some nosy human tourist taking pictures of him. Now back home he didn't mind having his picture taken and signing autographs for adoring fans. Okay, so he didn't exactly have a large fan club back home, but a guy can dream, can't he? But things were so very different here. It was all just too much even for him and sometimes he just had to get away from the crazy mob of people hounding him. Then there were tourists on the other side of the spectrum; the ones who for some reason or another had never heard of him despite knowing of Gizmoduck. Heck he even had a couple of tourists mistake him for the power suited hero; which was really all too much for Darkwing to bear.

Sadly though there was no avoiding the weird human tourists since they were everywhere and very difficult to get rid of. They kind of reminded the masked crimefighter of the roaches in his kitchen. Still, Darkwing refused to let them interfere with his new goal of keeping the theme park safe from evildoers while trying to find a way to escape the theme park and leave it for good. While he missed Gosalyn he was relieved that she was safe at home with Launchpad and not stuck in this mad house with him. That and if she were here she'd likely force him to lighten up a little and have fun by dragging him on every ride twice. Darkwing felt nauseous just thinking about it.

The masked superhero had yet another glaring issue to deal with. It was Halloween night and you know what that means? The streets were very likely going to be crawling with all kind of crazies, masked weirdos, and wackjobs. There will probably be wild teen parties with underaged drinking, teens and kids running amok TPing rides and shops, and not to mention all those trick-or-treaters going door too door begging for candy. Just the thought of it made the hero cringe. In other words the caped crusader was going to be very busy that night. At least he would blend right in with everyone else in costume. "It's going to be a long night," Darkwing grumbled to himself as he stood heroically perched atop the resort's rooftop. Binoculars in hand he scanned the area for any signs of wrongdoing. Thinking ahead he had brought some snacks and caffeine to keep him awake and alert. Oh who was he kidding, stake outs and patrolling at night just wasn't the same without his trusty sidekick and good pilot friend, Launchpad around to help liven things up. But it certainly did take him back to his early hero days of him fighting crime solo.

[Fred]

Fred was totally going to stay in character as long as possible. I mean, that was the whole point, right? So when a little kid came up, he was ready to give her the whole bit.

Is he your.. prince?

"I supposeth I am sort of a prince, young one. Mine father is Odin, King of Asgard. And who might you be, dweller of Midgard?" His eye then fell upon her buddy. "Ho, a Dark Elf! I knowest thine ilk!," he cried, pointing his hammer at the other guy's chest. "Perchance thou intendest no mischief tonight. Thor shall be merciful."

Well, he'd gotten his share of this candy; but this was just the beginning.

"Now I depart to score more tasty treasures. But if anyone desireth to accompany Thor, he will not say thee nay." Fred hated to trick-or-treat alone.

The language that the prince holding the hammer spoke with was confusing for the 1st grader. She somehow managed to comprehend that his father was a king, but anything more than that was too confusing for her to say with confidence that she understood. Either way, it almost sounded like how Prince Edward talked at their apartment. A little.

Then, exactly what Morgan dreaded would happen suddenly came true: The prince pointed his hammer at Barley's chest as he spoke to him! Morgan parted her mouth in shock and fear, completely believing it to be much like Prince Edward that threatened her father in the apartment with a sword, and instantly moved in front of Barley with fear in her widened hazel eyes, her arms spread out to protect him from harm - one hand free and the other hand holding the wand with the candy bucket. It would have been the perfect time for the brave Wizard Princess to say anything heroic, but the normally shy girl was too afraid for words to come out. She just protected him out of impulse. For the six year old girl, it was as if this were the real thing!

"I know where they give out really good candy!"

Morgan announced as they made their way along and towards this grand Quest of theirs. "Well then lead on Milady!", Barley declared.

Upon entering the lobby and spotting Andrina's "Elf Princess", which Morgan backed up was what the mermaid went with, he grimaced a small bit and tried to decide if she was teasing him further. Yeah probably. She wanted him to say it was not accurate no doubt, when it was just not Elf specific and old-timey in general.

Thankfully the rest of the conversation distracted from his having to directly reply.

Regrettably it was about more Elf lore misunderstandings.

"Ho, a Dark Elf! I knowest thine ilk! Perchance thou intendest no mischief tonight. Thor shall be merciful."

Even if Barley didn't get the lore, he knew he should no doubt be offended, whoever he was again (maybe this Star Lord had been an Elf and the Bean had failed to mention it) "I know not these Dark Elves you mention, good Sir, but of course I am naught but a humble knight escorting the lady and intend no mischief", he went to gesture to Morgan, and noticed her move in front as if actually worried a fight might break out.

Even with a tendency to let himself get wrapped up in his role-playing, he recognized that the girl needed real comfort. Though he intended to accomplish both. "No worries, Morgan", he used her actual name for that end, and gave her a small real hug, "Good Thor here just ensures, I shall not fight him this day", he gave her a wink hoping to cheer her up and reassure her.

"Now I depart to score more tasty treasures. But if anyone desireth to accompany Thor, he will not say thee nay."

This Bean was after the heart of all of his Quest of Yore buddies, and Barley felt sorry he couldn't introduce him to the game. Though he was still trying with random internet searches.

"A worthy quest! And one we were about ourselves, what sayeth the ladies, shall we join forces?", he put the question to Morgan and Andrina, with another wink at the girl that it was alright.

[Andrina]

Andrina would say she was soon 'saved' from having to find fitting words to whatever the young man's costume was supposed to be from by Barley and Morgan arriving, except that, almost like she had known to anticipate, Barley didn't help that.

Oh well, boys would often be boys.

Meanwhile girls knew how to act a little bit more, as Morgan proved.

"Wow, Andrina! You're a really pretty elf princess!"

"Thankyou! I just had to still go with princess", she admitted, and didn't admit to her full purpose, she noticed Barley pointedly didn't comment, "Though no doubt Barley will tell me I got it wrong", she grinned obviously at him.

"And you are just a perfect little princess yourself!", she went on once more to Morgan.

"Is he your.. prince?"

Even as the other human answered, Andrina laughed, "Oh no, I just met him".

"I supposeth I am sort of a prince, young one. Mine father is Odin, King of Asgard. And who might you be, dweller of Midgard?"

Yeah...she might have trouble understanding a word out of him all night if he came...but then Andrina anticipated similar problems out of Barley!

Andrina figured he was talking about his costume, not himself. At any rate she didn't recognize the names.

Speaking of her earlier suspicion, it looked like Barley and 'Thor' might get into a fight with costume props and Morgan was looking far too worried over the whole thing. Andrina was about to snap sense into the boys when Barley at least showed the presence of mind to notice.

"Now I depart to score more tasty treasures. But if anyone desireth to accompany Thor, he will not say thee nay."

"A worthy quest! And one we were about ourselves, what sayeth the ladies, shall we join forces?"

Andrina curbed the impulse to pinch the bridge of her nose. The duck outside wasn't the only one thinking it might be a long night...

"As long as you two don't beat each-other up with props, I'm in", she answered, next offering Morgan her hand as they made their way towards the exit. "We'll hit the hotels of course, and can always just double back here, though I heard the good candy is being given out at the shops also", Andrina shared what rumors she had picked up in the lobby. "You have any insight?", she next asked Morgan.

[Fred]

A worthy quest! And one we were about ourselves, what sayeth the ladies, shall we join forces?

"Yea, verily!" Fred resisted for a few seconds, then he just had to break character. Pulling a comic book from behind his back, where he'd secreted a messenger bag hidden by his cape, he held it open to the other guy. "Dude, I gotta go oh-oh-see for a second. You totally nailed the Star Lord costume, but he doesn't talk like that. See?"

"He's got a way more contemporary vibe. Well, maybe not quite contemporary. More retro-chic. Now, I get the whole hybrid-cosplay thing, but you're missing the most iconic details of Star Lord. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary."

He slid the comic book back into the plastic bag and put it away. "Anyway, back in character. It shall give Thor much pleasure to search for treats together with this worthy band! Let us away!"

"By the way," he added an aside, "When I'm not Thor, my name's Fred."

"Thankyou! I just had to still go with princess, though no doubt Barley will tell me I got it wrong,"

"That's what makes it even better!" Morgan smiled brightly, thinking that it was the perfect costume for a princess to wear! It's what she would do if she were a princess anyways: she'd just dress up as other princesses! "It's okay, there can be different elves," For the little girl, it was actually easy not to over-complicate things like grownups did; if there were two different kinds of elves, then there were. It all easily made sense for the six year old to accept as truth. Much like here and in New York, even Morgan knew that there were many different kinds of people, after all.  

"And you are just a perfect little princess yourself!"

"Thank you.. I'm a wizard princess!" The first grader said with a timid smile and a wave of her fluffy wand. It was obvious the wizard part was inspired by Barley. Princesses could be magical, too! Just like Andrina proved as a mermaid princess that could have legs on land!

"Okay Barley," Wizard Princess Morgan hugged Barley in return, feeling comforted and reassured by him that nothing was going to transpire between him and the new guy with the hammer. Given how he was in the same hotel building as her, Barley felt like the closest to any kind of family she ever had, so she didn't want him getting hurt.

"A worthy quest! And one we were about ourselves, what sayeth the ladies, shall we join forces?"

"Umm.." The submissive little girl glanced over at Andrina to see what she would decide on. The obedient girl was set on following along with whatever Andrina decided. She liked the prince guy though. He seemed nice to Barley afterwards. She especially was interested after the prince guy whipped out a book with pictures in it to demonstrate to Barley. Morgan raised her eyebrows, both surprised and impressed that a grown up was still reading books with pictures in it. See? Why couldn't her daddy buy her books like that instead of the last book that he got her with that Marie Curie lady that died? She had no idea what he had said, but it made her smile at the comforting thought that the prince wasn't so bad. "Yes!" Taking Andrina's hand, the six year old Wizard Princess smiled with a nod over at Barley when it seemed that Andrina felt the same about having the prince guy come with them, and even made sure that they don't beat each other up. Thinking the same way as a mermaid princess was always amazing to the 1st grader.

"You have any insight?"

"Insight? What's that?" Morgan asked with a curious crinkle of her nose, but she realized that this was said after Andrina offered ideas about where to go from here, so she followed suit. "..We can get candy from the other hotels like Fort Wilderness and Polynesian... and even the Magic Kingdom Park!" The Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween festivities offered different areas in the parks for trick or treating as well. 

"Hi Fred..!" Morgan greeted the prince guy with a shy smile, "I like to read books with pictures, too!" Of course, Morgan had never heard of a comic book. She would have asked to read his, but she was too shy to ask that from someone she just met. "Where did you get your book?" She asked instead as they were about to head outside of the hotel, wondering if there was a way that she could find one of her own to see if she'd like it. 

[Barley Lightfoot]

Barley had felt, a bit, the insecurity of attempting a character where his research wasn't complete, but...oh no, this Bean could tell! There was nothing worse than a poorly executed character, poorly researched also, or to Barley there wasn't. Thankfully the other, Fred, had comic books! All on the lore! Barley glanced at the book, taking in all he could before Fred put it away, and severely tempted to ask to see it fully; but that would disrupt Trick-or-Treating.

What helped Morgan the most was what should guide Barley's actions currently, and right now that meant the candy was more important than the character accuracy. "Ah, I admit my research was poorly done, terrible I know", Barley whispered back, "We don't have this lore where I'm from, I know more on Quest of Yore. Duly taken in, though, and I'm Barley when I'm not...mixed sources Star Lord", he nodded.

Ok, so maybe he'd go light on the talking, though the one or two panels he'd seen had helped him. Cut the Ye Old Knight. As Fred had put it, more modern. Or whatever Retro-Chic was...he thought he got the idea though, enough for now.

He thought about asking where these comic books were sold, if anywhere, in the parks, but Morgan sort of took care of that question herself, asking where Fred had gotten his. Barley smiled. He'd already realized she was a smart kid where lore was concerned. If, again, the lore here seemed to vary. Party because he was figuring out his tact again with his costume, he let the girls lead on. Plus, Andrina being an ancient princess in actuality, it also seemed only proper.

[Andrina]

"That's what makes it even better!"

Morgan defended. Andrina smiled. The little girl was making a pretty good impression on her as well.

"Thank you.. I'm a wizard princess!"

"Ah, like a good and kind Sea-witch", Andrina guessed and put it into context from her own world. Of course, Morgan was a human on land...but then the girl could pretend to be a mermaid as well perhaps. Octopus relation was not required for being a sea-witch, just an early warning sign in Ursula and her sister's case, Andrina felt.

"Insight? What's that?"

"Ah, sorry", Andrina realized she was confusing the girl, "Ideas". Though Morgan also went on and seemed to pick it up without much need of the clarification.

"..We can get candy from the other hotels like Fort Wilderness and Polynesian... and even the Magic Kingdom Park!"

"Sounds like a plan!", Andrina said as she lead the party outside. Once on the pavement, she glanced about. "Ok, so I think that means we should start off...", she pulled out and consulted a park map. "...this way", she pointed.

"I know, right?" answered Fred, pleased to meet a kindred spirit. As to Morgan's question: "The news shop sells comic books. Nothing I recognized, but some of these new titles are really good."

The Star Lord guy went on to apologize for his malapropism. "It's all good, Barley." What a great name! Personally, Fred thought food names were just the best.

"Right there with you on that. But I've already started in on an intensive course of study. I think research is the first priority in an alternate-world-displacement scenario, don't you?" Although he had no one to consult with since his arrival, Fred was sure he was in an alternate reality, sent here by some cosmic force as yet unknown. Actually, it was kind of cool.

"Not familiar with that one, but you interest me strangely. You'll have to show me sometime. But business before pleasure. Let's trick-or-treat!"

Since the girls seemed to know the best places, Fred was happy to follow their lead.

Darkwing remained on the roof with his trusty binoculars as he kept his eyes peeled for any signs of wrongdoing. Glancing down he spotted a group of young people with a sweet little human girl in tow all dressed up and ready for trick or treating exit the resort. One of these people looked sort of like the humans except he was blue with pointy ears while the others all looked human. They had on some very interesting costumes and the two guys looked like they were trying to go for a specific character. Sadly though despite being something of a comic book fanatic, Darkwing did not recognize either costumed character that the two young guys were trying to portray. The young lady, however, was dressed as a princess with pointy looking ears while the little girl was wearing an absolutely adorable little pink princess dress. Oh how he wished he could get Gosalyn to dress that way sometimes... So far he had only been able to once for her school dance and even that ended in total disaster. No not because Gosalyn was wearing a dress, although if she were here she would most certainly argue that it was a big part of why the dance ended up being a total flop. But no it actually ended up being a disaster because one of his enemies just had to crash the party with one of his ridiculous evil schemes. Thankfully, Darkwing was able to stop Tuskernini in time before he could cause any real damage. The duck just sighed at the memory.

As he pulled out an apple, a healthy if not boring alternative to all the candy that will no doubt stick to your teeth, and after he took a couple of bites a bright light practically blinding him shined directly in his face. Peering down he saw that the flashlight belonged to none other than one of the theme park's annoying little security guards. "Hey you! Yeah you! Get down from there before you get hurt," the guard ordered. Standing back upright, Darkwing just rolled his eyes. If he had a nickel every time someone told him that he could possibly wind up injured from doing his job that he deliberately undertook fully aware of the dangers of hero work he'd be one wealthy duck! Maybe not as rich as say Scrooge or even Glomgold, but still very well off nonetheless. Still, the costumed duck had to remind himself that it wasn't really their fault. They were, after all, only trying to do their jobs of keeping everybody safe. Still, the duck had hoped that the park security could recognize him as full-fledged hero fully capable of taking care of himself. After all, isn't it just the tiniest bit obvious that he is one considering the way he dresses? It's not as though he dresses that way for the mere fun of it!

He narrowed his eyes at the guard through his purple mask. "No need to worry about my physical well-being Officer. I knew my job as a hero was dangerous the very minute I decided to become one. For most of my life I've faced bandits, criminal masterminds, thieves of all kinds, supervillains, felons, and the like! Navigating your theme park's rooftops should be mere child's play by comparison. Do you not have any idea to whom you are speaking?" the costumed duck replied full of confidence.

The security guard just raised a brow and gave an amused chuckle. "Oh let me guess, Darkwing Duck, the terror that flaps in the night, right?"

Confused by the security guard's sarcastic tone and amused laugh, Darkwing nodded. "Yes! Yes, That's right! That is exactly who I am! Wait! Hold on a sec, if you know who I am then why are you so concerned for my safety?" he asked clearly confused.

It really didn't help that the guard just laughed in response. "Riiiiiight. If you're the real Darkwing Duck then I'm Queen Elsa," the guard sarcastically teased with a laugh.

Darkwing narrowed his eyes in confusion. He had no idea who this Queen Elsa even was, but this clown seemed to think he should for some reason. "Um what? What's happening? Also who's Queen Elsa? I've...never heard of her," he asked, confused.

The guard shaking his head just sighed at him. "And would you look at that? You just proved my point. You don't even know who Queen Elsa is and I know for a fact that the real Darkwing met her awhile back. Look son, don't make me ask you again! Either you climb down from there or i'm coming up after you to force you down and believe me you don't want that. Also why are you even up there anyway?"

The masked duck could not believe his ears! Was this guy seriously mistaking him for a...for a mere child? Never before in all his crimefighting years has he been mistaken for a kid. This was so unbelievably embarrassing for the masked crimefighter! The lowest of the low, in his mind at least! Okay, so that was kind of an exaggeration since being mistaken for a common criminal or a deranged villain was still so much worse. Still pretty darn embarrassing for him though. Also why did this guard seem to think he should already know this Queen Elsa person when he just got there? So many questions plagued his mind right then. "Son? What the...? You mean to tell me you think I'm...I'm a kid? That...that's ludicrous! Darkwing Duck, defender of the weak and overall protector is no child! And what am I doing up here? Ha! What do you think I'm doing? I'm not up here having a party ya know! I'm doing my job of helping you security clowns keep this park safe, that's what I'm doing! You security guys could really use the extra set of eyes," Darkwing answered the man clearly insulted.

Unfortunately, this guy clearly was not getting it for he just kept right on going. I mean who does that? Well clearly this guy had no problems with continuing to make a complete fool of himself! More stubborn than anything the security officer just shook his head. "No. Sorry kid, but you're a bit too short to be the real Darkwing. Plus you got the beak all wrong and not to mention the real Darkwing has this real nice gas gun he always uses. I've been a fan of his since I was a little kid, so I think I should know," the security officer pointed out acting as though he were some kind of real expert on the purple costumed duck and Darkwing hated every minute of it.

Darkwing just stared incredulously back at the officer. With a roll of his eyes, Darkwing produced his very real signature gas gun and very proudly held it up for the guard to see. "Ahem, you mean like this one? Sorry bub, but no matter how well you slice it I am the real deal over here and if you were a real fan you could see that! And for the last time I am not a child! I'm a genuine superhero over here!" The masked mallard was confident that should be more than enough evidence to shut his pretentious so-called fan right up. And if that still was somehow not enough then well, hey at least he tried, right? Not his fault if some people are just too thick headed to see the truth staring them right in the face.

The guard just smiled at the gas gun being held by the duck up on the resort's rooftops. "Hm, hey that's actually not a half bad replica. Nope. Not bad at all! You really went all out this year, didn't you? So it's a real shame you don't have it just right and not to brag or anything, but my replica of his gas gun looks even more authentic than your little toy." And wouldn't you know it, his own gas gun was not enough proof to satisfy this 'fan.' And what's more his 'fan' had the audacity to insult his weapon! Unbelievable!

Darkwing just stared at the guard in disbelief. He really didn't know what more to say to this guy since nothing he's said so far has managed to pierce through that thick skull of his. "Toy!? Toy? Sir, I've been nothing but patient but I am warning you..." the duck hissed in warning through clenched teeth, hands clenching into tight fists. Once again some poor sap had been incredibly lucky that it wasn't his evil lookalike that they had crossed and that the duck in purple was a lot more forgiving than the one in yellow. Still, he wasn't pleased by the way this conversation was going and that much was pretty obvious.

The guard while remaining totally oblivious to just how angry the duck now was finally had the presence of mind to at least quit while ahead. "Yeah, you're right. We are getting off topic here, aren't we? Now just come down from there, so we can talk more," the guard ordered getting tired of this 'kid's' game.

Beyond tired of this, Darkwing figured the only thing he could do was to simply appease the poor deluded soul for now anyway. With a tired groan he threw his arms up in surrender. "Fine." Darkwing shot his grappling hook at the edge of the rooftop and using its rope he skillfully climbed down while grumbling to himself. Once on the ground he retracted his grappling hook back into his gun. He then walked over to the guard. "There. Happy now?" he asked the pretentious man, crossing his arms.

The guard just looked the duck over with a smirk, clearly still somehow unimpressed. "Yeah, just as I thought. you're much too short to be the real Darkwing. Plus you got the beak all wrong." Snickering he looked over at the group of trick or treaters and shook his head. "Can you believe this kid thinking he's the real Darkwing? Heh some cosplayers just don't know when to quit. Oh well... Say you kids look like you're about to all go trick or treating. You guys mind taking Skippy here home after and let his mom know where he's been?" he asked the group gesturing at the silently seething duck in purple.

Darkwing threw his arms up in agitation. "Skippy!? Look this has gone on long enough I..."

But the guard just waved him off dismissively before he started to walk away from them. It was really all the duck could do to not throw something at the obnoxious guard's back, but he miraculously resisted the urge to do so. Just barely. "Well I know a fan who won't be getting an autographed glossy of me anytime soon," Darkwing called after the guard. The guard just laughed. "Hey, that...that's a pretty good impression of him actually! You definitely have his voice and mannerisms down, kid, I will give you that! Well have a fun night you crazy kids and remember to stay together and to stay safe," and with that final word of warning the guard left; out of sight and out of earshot.

"Unbelievable, that guy," Darkwing muttered under his breath while shaking his head. Suddenly remembering he was still not alone, he looked over at the young people whose night he no doubt unintentionally interrupted. Clearing his throat he addressed them, "oh sorry for the interruption folks! I have no idea what that guy's deal was, but don't you believe a word he said about me. I am the real Darkwing Duck, at your service and if you want I could accompany you to keep you safe. You never know the kind of weirdos you might run into on Halloween Night."

Noticing the sweet little girl in her princess dress, Darkwing's face softening smiled at her as he lowered himself to her level. The duck quickly realized he wasn't that much taller than her. He never really much thought about it before, but the humans really were tall. "And just who might you be little lady? That's a very nice dress you're wearing," he complimented while trying his best to appear non-threatening. Darkwing had no idea that this was the friend that Dash had mentioned getting her dad's credit card stolen by his archenemy when the costumed duck first met the speedster.



ooc: I'd just like to make a quick note about Darkwing's height. He's actually the same height as an average ten-year kid, so yeah he's shorter than human teenagers and adult human characters. Interestingly enough I guess you could say he is around Dash's height.

"...A good witch?" Morgan questioned Andrina with a skeptical tone of her voice. She had never heard of good witches before, just like she had never heard of a good step-mother. They were all stereotypically mean in the fantasy stories, and that was what Morgan believed to be true of even Nancy being a step-mother. At least until Giselle told her that Prince Edward's stepmother was lovely. Maybe since Giselle was a princess, it could be true, just like Andrina was a princess that said there were such a thing as good witches. That settled it for the six year old: If a princess said it, then it must be true.

The shy Morgan smiled a little more confidently upon hearing that her ideas for Halloween trick or treating were good enough for the adults to want to join along. Given that she didn't have friends before, the notion certainly increased her confidence a little with the fact that even her ideas could be good ones sometimes. 

"I know, right?"

Morgan smiled up at Fred, happy to find someone else that liked to read books with pictures. She reminded him a lot like Barley, where they were just big kids that she could somehow feel more comfortable talking to than kids in her own class back at the Dalton school in New York. Although she had never heard of comic book, the word "comics" was not unfamiliar to her, given that she had seen a few of them on Sunday newspapers, but the six year old hadn't seen an actual comic book before. It wasn't something that her father would particularly encourage either way. "My name is Morgan," The shy girl introduced herself to Fred with a smile, trying to remember that the news shop sold comic books. That seemed easy enough to remember, given than there were many news shops in the streets of New York.

As quickly as the wizard princess felt excitement surging for trick-or-treating comfortably, her eyebrows rose apprehensively upon passing by the conflicting situation with the police officer and the familiar looking duck. It was true that the duck wore different colored clothes now, but even the fashion connoisseur that the six year old was knew that it was the same style, just a different color, which did not count; She wore different colored clothing all the time. "This way!" Morgan instantly grabbed Barley's hand and tugged it gently to the other direction, "We have to go this way!" She begged softly, worriedly looking over at Fred and Andrina in hopes that they would listen. 

Unfortunately, the police had already seen their group and had directed the duck over to them. Although everything in her being told her to run for it, the brave Morgan never abandoned the people she cared about in the face of danger, much like she did for her dad, even if she was scared out of her mind. Still, the loyal Morgan instantly hid herself between Fred and Barley, closing her eyes and silently wishing that the duck could just leave. Her white belt karate classes that her daddy had been taking her to in New York went out the window. 

"Oh sorry for the interruption folks! I have no idea what that guy's deal was, but don't you believe a word he said about me. I am the real Darkwing Duck, at your service and if you want I could accompany you to keep you safe. You never know the kind of weirdos you might run into on Halloween Night."

Upon hearing the duck address them, a scared chill made the little girl to shiver as she retreated a step back. Given that she had never heard of the duck in yellow's voice when he stole the credit card, she still didn't think that this duck was different. Yet her hazel eyes opened as soon as what the duck named Darkwing Duck said registered into her frightened mind. He said that he wanted to keep them safe, and the little girl was inclined to believe him. It didn't seem like the same duck that tried to steal from her before. She took a step forward to peek back at him, standing next to Barley again. 

"And just who might you be little lady? That's a very nice dress you're wearing,"

Even her daddy would tell her that it was rude not to say anything to someone that spoke nicely to her. "..A princess..wizard.." The scared Morgan managed to answer very quietly, though she had gotten it mixed up due to her intimidation. She was still too afraid to give out her name, but it was enough for her to relax enough to say what was truly on her mind. "A-Are you the one that stole my credit card?" She bluntly asked in a gentle voice of the duck in purple that was around the same height as her. It was such a naive thing to ask of anyone that could easily lie to her, given that she would easily believe anyone that lied to her, but it was all the little First Grader had on her mind to ask in efforts to be relaxed again.  

[Barley Lightfoot]

As they walked, Barley took in what Fred said about comic book stores having books with a lot of varying lore in them. It made sense, and he sort of knew it from his world as well, but of course there weren't likely to be many here. Still, he could look.

"I think research is the first priority in an alternate-world-displacement scenario, don't you?"

Fred's use of high-dollar words was different, in practice, than the flowery speech Barley would spit out for Knights and Quests accuracy, but he could still follow one hundred percent! "It certainly helps, yes", Barley agreed, "Finding out what foes you might have to face, though if this is all just one elaborate Quest...", their being stuck currently in the parks, "...at least it's lacking that".

He was interested in learning Quest of Yore! Barley might not get his full team of warriors back up here, but it was a good start! Now if he could just convince Ian to play. "Of course! I've already heard I can get similar things, even without the game here, but candy first, yes". He smiled back down to Morgan, recalling they were here for her and candy, though Barley was sure both were interesting to the little girl. "And we can add a Wizarding Princess role just for you!", he said.

The pair came across one of the Cast Members and a duck in an altercation of some kind. Though Barley was sure neither of them were dangerous, he did slow so as to not just walk Morgan into such a situation, before realizing she was hesitating back herself! Pulling at him even. "Hey, what's...", Barley began to ask in a kind and curious voice, but the duck walked up to them and bent before her.

With Morgan so nervous, Barley stayed right by her, but the duck seemed alright, surely not the kind for the type of question Morgan went on to ask!

"A-Are you the one that stole my credit card?"

Barley didn't add any question to this, but he showed he was taking Morgan's suspicion seriously by moving the hand that was in hers to around her shoulders further protectively and in case they had to make a run for it. "You best answer the young lady", he dropped the princess title since Fred had told him it didn't fit. Even in the midst of a serious situation, Barley could recall Authenticity Issues.

[Andrina]

"...A good witch?"

Andrina understood such being a bit of a confusing title. "Well yeah, or Witch might be the wrong term, just a good magic user I guess". She remained in front as they came across the altercation up ahead and while she slowed as well, she didn't hang back as much as Barley and Morgan, and just watched curiously, trying to figure the best way to go around the pair before the guard walked off and the duck turned to them!

"Nice costume, what are you?", Andrina asked, and watched as the duck bent before Morgan and asked her what she was as well. In friendly conversation no doubt, but Andrina noticed how nervous Morgan looked and the question was a shocking one. Barley took care of nudging him to answer and Andrina (in being a fair princess, or reminding herself to be) waited for that answer before attacking him. Hmm...surely her bucket was heavy enough to be used a as a weapon if need be...or at least it would cause enough distraction to rush off. Andrina already began hefting it, prepared to swing if needed.
