Ever since Disney Movie Rewards became Disney Movie Insiders, they've been promising that, instead of just a reward-point program, they would have some way-cool behind-the-scenes fan stuff.
Welp, they've finally posted some actual "insider" stuff: an interview podcast celebrating the anniversary of Emperor's New Groove!
Featuring director Mark Dindal, story artist Don Hall, and storyboard artist Stevie Wermers-Skelton, the podcast starts out kind of slow but quickly becomes interesting.
Best of all, despite opening a pretty well known bit of their trivia for "did you know?!" fact, there is a lot of cool behind-the-scenes stuff that makes the listen worthwhile.
We get to hear about some deleted characters, cut gags, the reason behind some of the writing choices (i.e., why does Yzma's voice change when she's transformed even though Kuzco's doesn't), what the actors were like, some of the Disney background of the people, and the chair races!
(Of course, while the 180 revamp is mentioned, some of the less pleasant occurrences with the making of Nik Ranieri mentions on his facebook page are, uh, brushed over. XD
You can find the full podcast here: cms.megaphone.fm/channel/ESP7721801191?selected=ESP8658133265 I had the best luck viewing it when I was logged into my account (if you don't have already an account, I do recommend you think about signing up: it's free and the rewards, while rarely exclusive and/or irresistible, are pretty nice); but you should be able to listen to it without. (If the pay button isn't working, try clicking to random spot along the progress bar line, then click at the start).
My only complaint is that I do wish it was longer. (And I do question our Cheery Interviewer's comment how "groundbreaking" the "irreverent humor was"-- as I think Dindall points put, it's not that different than some of Ward Kimball's gags...)
