charrie basics.[/ul]
age:14
species:Human
birthplace: Germany
movie:Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
title: “There's no use in grumbling
When the raindrops come tumbling
Remember, you're the one
Who can fill the world with sunshine”
why: why'd you pick this character? When I first watched this movie as a small child, I actually wasn’t all that fond of Snow White. It was only later, after I came to appreciate her for her extreme kindness and gentleness, that she became one of my favorite Princesses. She is someone who always tries to make the world a brighter place, and I admire her for that.

charrie appearance [/ul]
facial description/mood expressions: Snow White usually has a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She laughs often and has never been embarrassed by her own mirth. I could easily see her laughing merrily in situations many of her more solemn contemporaries would find highly inappropriate, such as at a church service! Although she isn’t sad or anxious often, she doesn’t hide her emotions when she is. She only ever shows anger when she sees someone else hurting another person, especially one she believes is helpless.
clothing style: Snow White is typically seen in ankle-length dresses with short, puffy sleeves. Her favorite has a yellow skirt with a blue bodice and blue-and-red sleeves. She also has a cape to complete this outfit.
body build: Snow White is very slender, and rather delicate-looking. Her dainty hands have somehow managed to remain soft and white in spite of the fact that she worked as a maid for years, and she has not really developed any muscles (again, in spite of this fact), proving that she at least didn’t perform any back-breaking labor.

While Snow White never attempts to confront Queen Grimhilde in the movie, as some of the later Disney heroines almost certainly would have, she is not really a “doormat”, either. She is willing to absolutely insist that the dwarfs wash their hands before they eat, and she tends to respond to Grumpy’s rudeness to her through much of the movie with some good-natured teasing of her own. Her sense of humor actually seems a bit mischievous, and it’s possible someone with a great sense of dignity could be hurt by it – but she would apologize and try to make amends the moment she sensed that.
Snow White has a merry disposition and rarely gives in to sadness. She sees it as her job to “fill the world with sunshine”, even if things aren’t going well for her at the moment. There would be no use in bitter complaining; in her mind, this may even make things worse.
She is also a person of faith in many ways. Snow White believes that wishes have power. She is also one of the few princesses (perhaps the only one) who definitely prays. Both wishing and praying have been effective for her. Her wish was granted when her Prince found her, and her prayers were answered when she learned that Grumpy had come to like her after all.
Basically incapable of hatred, Snow White would never wish ill on anyone, even her stepmother. For this reason, it is highly unlikely she would ever have made a good fighter, even if someone tried to train her. She much prefers to heal and comfort others. If ever a villain decided to join the good guys, Snow White would almost certainly be one of the first to forgive them, though depending on who it was she might still be a little frightened of the perhaps-reformed (but quite possibly just lying, considering how Disney movies tend to go) villain.
history:
Snow White has never really known her mother; the woman died giving birth to her (I’m using the usual fairy tale history here since the Disney version never states exactly what happened). The princess’s father remarried after he lost his first wife: the new queen was a beautiful, but vain and evil woman who was very paranoid about the idea that someone might surpass her in beauty someday. While Snow White’s father was alive, Queen Grimhilde could not harm the princess in any way, but after his death, the evil woman forced the girl to dress in rags and work as a scullery maid.
Snow White made the best of her situation, though, as she always did, and one day when she went to her ‘magic wishing well’ and sang of her longing for true love, a young prince heard her and declared his love for her. She hadn’t realized anyone else was around, so she was very startled when he joined in her song at the wishing well. Snow White ran into the castle, but went out onto a balcony to see him after he began to sing to her. The princess pledged her true love to him by planting a gentle kiss on a dove she had befriended, then sending it out to ‘carry’ that kiss to the prince.
Soon after that, the Queen’s Magic Mirror revealed that Snow White had indeed become more beautiful than her stepmother. The jealous woman responded by telling her huntsman to take the princess into the forest and kill her. He did take the girl out into the forest, but he couldn’t bring himself to murder her, instead telling her about the plot and pleading with her to run away and hide. She immediately complied, but as she ran through the forest, everything seemed to be out to get her. The next morning, after the shock of learning that her stepmother actually wanted her dead wore off, Snow White realized that the world wasn’t nearly as scary as she’d let herself think it was the night before. She quickly made friends with many of the woodland animals and asked them to help her find a place to stay.
They led her to a cottage in the woods. When Snow White discovered that no one was home, she went inside, and soon came to believe, due to the small size of the furniture and the general messiness of the house, that little orphaned children lived there. She decided to try to cheer them up by cleaning their house for them. After she and her animal friends tidied up, she went upstairs, discovered seven little beds there, and fell asleep.
When the dwarfs who were the true occupants of the house came home, they woke her up, and, after expressing her surprise, she told them who she really was. Grumpy tried to convince the other dwarfs that the princess should leave, since Queen Grimhilde might punish all of them if she found Snow White there. However, the girl’s revelation that she could cook gooseberry pies won them over, and they immediately decided she could stay.
In time, even Grumpy came to like Snow White, and when the dwarfs all went to work one day, he warned her not to let anyone into the house.
He was right to worry; the girl’s stepmother had discovered that the huntsman had tricked her into thinking Snow White was dead, and set out to get rid of her stepdaughter once and for all. The evil woman disguised herself as a hag, brewed a poison apple to make Snow White sleep forever, and went to the dwarfs’ house. Though the princess was initially reluctant to disobey Grumpy’s instructions, she did let the “peddler woman” in after the animals tried to frighten Queen Grimhilde away, and the wicked Queen pretended she was having heart trouble, begging the girl to take her into the house and get her a drink of water.
Snow White could never ignore an old woman in distress, so she helped the woman inside. There, the queen offered her a “magic wishing apple” for her kindness. Snow White, longing to see her One True Love again, accepted the apple. Her animal friends rushed to get the dwarfs so they could rescue her. Snow White’s wish was so long and detailed that they almost had time to rush back to her side before she took a bite of the apple – but it wasn’t quite enough. The girl bit into the apple and immediately fell to the ground, as if dead. The dwarfs arrived just in time to catch up with the evil Queen, and chase her to a cliff where she would ultimately fall to her death.
The dwarfs believed that Snow White was dead, too, but she was still so beautiful they couldn’t bear to bury her, instead placing her body in a glass coffin above-ground. The prince she loved, faithful to her even now, came to see her one last time, and kissed her goodbye.
With this, Snow White woke: Love’s First Kiss was the only antidote to the poison she had been given. Seeing the man she loved at her side, she reached out to him, and he swept her into his arms. The joyous couple went off together to be married and live happily ever after.
ambitions:
• Eternal happiness with her One True Love
• To make her husband, her friends, and her people happy
• Having a joyful, tidy home that someday includes children (though she’s quite content simply to have her prince at her side, for now)
strengths && abilities:
• Trusting (I consider this both a strength and a flaw because it has both helped her (as it meant she didn’t refuse to stay with the dwarfs) and nearly gotten her killed)
• Cheerful
• Kind
• Hardworking
flaws:
• Naïve/Too Trusting (Snow White has a difficult time believing that there could be people in the world, other than her stepmother, who would want to hurt her. Really, in her experience so far, no one else ever has.)
• A classic “damsel in distress”
• Easily startled (and tends to sort of shriek when she is)
• Non-confrontational attitude towards enemies

what makes this character unique: Despite basically being treated as a servant and, later, finding out that her stepmother wants to kill her, Snow White remains cheerful throughout almost the entire movie. The only time she breaks down is immediately after she learns that her stepmother plans to have her murdered, and even then, she says, the next day, “I’m so ashamed of the fuss I’ve made”, and proceeds to take steps to make things better. She refuses to rely solely on her circumstances to make her happy, and clearly believes that real happiness is a choice.
RP SAMPLE: It had been a very long day, like many within the past year. So far no one had asked her to do much more than deliver messages or prevent the theft of small but important objects, but it was still a lot of work for someone who wasn’t even out of junior high yet. This time, she had been unable to find what she’d been looking for, and the fact that the girl wasn’t used to failure made this much more distressing than it really should have been. She didn’t want to report back yet, even though there was no point in staying in this era anymore. Actually, it was technically against the rules to stay longer than necessary; this was a dangerous time to be in and the Council knew it. But the regulation wasn’t enforceable; there simply weren’t enough time travelers to check in on each other to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to, and at any rate, they often had strange effects on each other’s abilities. For this reason, they usually tried not to meet at all when they could help it.
So maybe there was still a chance, somehow. If only she could figure out the exact moment she needed to return to, perhaps she could go back before that and meet someone who would be close to the right place at that time. There would be no need for anyone to know this had only worked out on Sally’s second attempt.
The drink she had ordered was set roughly on the table before her, interrupting her thoughts. Sipping it now, she no longer marveled at how easy it had been to get used to the taste of alcohol. So many things had become natural to her by now, like masquerading as a boy, without acting, speaking, or moving in a manner that might give her away.
Sally wondered where her friends were now. They could not be dead; if they died in the 1400s, she should not have been able to meet them nearly six centuries later. That kind of paradox had never been known to occur, even once, in the thousands of years time travelers had been active. But they had not told her where they had gone after what, for them, was their first meeting with her. She just hoped they were all right, wherever they were.
