Prismatic and vibrant hues lit up the profuse blackness of the sky, the glitz merging in unison with an incredibly loud barrage that caused the mass of park tourists to ooh and ah. The sight was twinkling, not surpassing the stars themselves in its beauty, but alloying with them which painted such a marvelous scene on the great, ebony canvass. Among the various guests was Ling, dawned in his training uniform, looking totally out of place compared to the rest of them but sharing the similar enthusiasm.
Ling absolutely loved fireworks. He loved the bright formations they developed against the night sky, he loved the booming resonance that accompanied them as they were launched into the air. Sure, they were good for a laugh if one were to set a couple off during the daytime and attempt to scare another with the abrupt thunder, but they were even better just to watch and admire. The soldier's dusky eyes lit up themselves as he craned his pencil like neck to get a better view of the lights.
Fireworks did bring back a hint of nostalgia to the Mandarin youth as well. Every celebration that had taken place in China was always habituated with the sparklers; heck...a firework had been the utmost downfall of one of the country's most notorious and lethal rivals. Well, not JUST a firework...one that was released by the most gallant and awe- inspiring heroine of the dynasty.
And, of course, the soldier's arcane crush. His tenuous lips curved up at the thought of her, parting slightly to emit an infatuated sigh.
Despite the beautiful fireworks, the amorous illusions in his head, he couldn't help but feel a little despondent at the same time. How Ling missed China, how he longed to stride throughout the recognizable boulevards and villages and meet up with his friends once more. He still wasn't exactly sure what this different place that he now habituated was called, nor did he understand many of the customs or people and he certainly had a forlorn aura about him.
Ling traipsed his way around a few of the families, managing to give the jaunty groups a meek smile before he settled on a bench towards the astern, rather isolated. Such a shame the little, sprite-like man had nobody to watch the fireworks with.
