The lake was silent, still as the night plowed on. Its tranquil presence was seldom broken by the incessant melodies from the crickets or the rustle of the wind whipping at the lithe blades of grass surrounding the water. It was drawing closer to midnight and that was typically the time Evangeline had glittered her brightest yet. She was momentarily obscured by a few dark clouds ambling by before she was in full form, ignited like a firework but with a far prettier vigor.
Ray's heart seemed to do a couple repetitive backflips with his stomach. He beamed upwards, contemplating her radiance, cupping a feeler to his trap, and endowing her with a swift kiss that he directed towards the sky. "Mon petite ange..." the enamored insect crooned, lacing his minuscule mitts together. "I wish dat y'all was down heah wif meh. I''s so lawnleh when I ain't nex' ta you..." He freewheeled over to the middle of the lake, registering his reflection beside hers.
That was better. The distance between them seemed a lot more condensed now. He reached forward, lightly tracing her outline in the water with his right feeler while the other was clasped to his tiny chest. He sighed, watching the thin circles flourish around the duplicate of her heavenly body before they faded away.
"Evangeline?" Ray whispered, craning his gangly neck so he could gaze ardently back up at her. He knew his copine was incredibly averse but she was wiser than most would give her credit for. He hadn't been sent back down to earth for no reason at all, he was certain. Yet, at the same time, he wasn't positive where to turn or who to seek help from other than the beautiful seraph herself.
"Wheah does I go frahm heah? How does I get back hahme?"
Ray deliberated, hardly breathing as if he were awaiting an audible response from her. He fiddled with one of his antennas, appearing as though he weren't listening to a thing, but he was. He could hark the sweet celestial being on the inside.
"Je suis désolée, dawlin'..." the squirt disclosed nervously, mutely reassured by her but still a bit puzzled at her desire. "Ah hunh...I does wanna fin' 'em. If onleh I wazn' so los..."
