introduce yourself.[/ul]
charrie basics.[/ul]
age: Mid-30's, possibly 40.
species: Part human/alien-type, part cyborg. He was actually a young naval officer who had served under the 987th Space Regiment of Nigel II - a small planet in the northern galaxies not too far from Earth itself. Following a brutal battle in which many lives were claimed, John lost his eye in a fight with a few shipmates in regards to how the battle was operated - some suspecting Silver of having set it all together on the sidelines - but his arms and legs were, in fact, torn apart from his body. The result has been described by him as "the day me life cracked like a mirror yonder", when he was almost nearly consumed by a giant interstellar octopus/jellyfish monster of unknown origin. He was put on paralysis for a good while, but ultimately he had to have such parts surgically removed. John claims the eye "was a nice touch", and not quite an idea he wanted originally, and would have settled for a simple eyepatch traditionally... but as it ran most of the battery to his mechanics now implemented, stuck with it.
birthplace: He was born on a small planet, much like Earth, where the space age boom was already long past it's peak. Space travel had become synonymous with sea travel for most planets, but with more interspecies relationships with aliens and humans going on, the thrill of discovery of other life, mystery, treasure, and so forth, people have set their sights in the stars and skies above. Living a bit of a rugged life, John had built himself a reputation as the school bully; mind-games with the weak were far better than being a ruffian, and as such earned him quite a bit of recognition to the point he was a man of his own. He would start his career in the open sea and the above and beyond when he quit schooling as a young man, eventually in the hopes he could be reformed before it was too late.
movie: Treasure Planet
why: Well, I suppose the obvious is that I chose a hero and a side-kick, Chip and Dr. Dawson, respectively. I wanted to explore a villain this time, and while John was turned into a bit of a hero in the end - I chose him to kind of reverse that role intentionally. Being a cyborg -and- a pirate, has got to be one of the strangest and yet most appealing combinations put together! He could certainly prove to be a main character should a major plot arc rolls around, what with the ability to fire bombs from his own arm canon, while mystifiying people as to who's loyalty he is on: Captain Amelia? Judge Claude Frollo? John Silver loves to play sides, but if he ever wanted to root for one, it'd be his own.

charrie appearance[/ul]
facial description/mood expressions: Silver is a burly fellow, with a wide nose and bitty eyes which focus on his enemies, prey, and other folks to the point it's almost scary. He has big lips, sometimes chapped, meaning his life as a rogue pirate has been eventful but dangerous, hazardous, all throughout. Giving up the life of serving the navel recruits, he found a bond with other crewmembers who simply wanted to follow in the footsteps of Captain Flint, or general spacefaring - while there wold be rules to be had as a pirate, they all preferred disobeying each of them to the point of being the roudiest of all space pirates until John finally established one to follow to keep peace amongst his crew. Just by looking at him, you can tell immediately is up to no good; only Jim Hawkins has been able to see his soft side, almost fatherly, but Silver wants no one to see it... as it could ruin his already established history as a brute.
clothing style: A combination of early 18th century clothing, surprising even for the distant future; he wears the commonplace pirate attire down to the hat, shirt, pants and jacket. He's never one to boast about his considerably large cyborgnetic right hand - it's roughly half the size of him, and his leg can be seen as part of his worn and town pants. They are faded altogether from many a battle won, lost, or in-between; long story short, John's been around. He could probably give other pirates a run for their money, not so much by physical strength alone, but by his wits. His hat doesn't conceal well enough what looks to be a headset of some sort which serves as perhaps a radio or hearing aid across one side of his face, which is a part of old age.
body build: As noted, he is a very sturdy and bulky fellow - his belly is as large as Santa, to denote the success he's been from eating quite a lot while living life on the edge of a space pirate. Being a cyborg, most of the metal makes up all of his right arm and leg, and parts of his chest. What he lacks in speed and agility, he makes up for brutal power, and can use it to crush or demolish just about anything.
any unique traits (optional) : His cyborgnetic arm allows him to transform itself into two forms of weapons, possibly more, while even that of an everyday hand-shakin' greeting hand. The first one, somewhat of a fairly large canon which can blast holes in walls or doors alike, and the second like an everyday handgun/pistol of that period. He's never seen using it unless it is deemed necessary, and whether or not he's actually harmed someone in his later years such as the events of Treasure Planet is to be explained someday. John takes a liking to the canon best, and the second only if a regular pistol isn't readily available. It should be noted, that aside from weaponry, it's ability to trasnform into objects for cooking, roasting, cutting, and so on, is also available. He uses these parts to play a small role in Captain Amelia's RLS Legacy, posing as a chef, before it's revealed why he's there in the first place... for the goods. The map to Treasure Planet, o'course!

original charrie analysis. (everything must be in your own words! please be thorough.)[/ul]
He can be quite possessive of anything he sets his eyes on, anything worth of value that comes in large amounts and will strike it rich to the very end; anyone in his way is likely to be stalked at, watched at very closely to the point of annoyance, in which he'll see to it he or his own men strike down to remove all obstacles. We see this in the way he never lets Jim out of his sight to the point of obsession from start to finish - the Treasure Planet's legacy is so strong, based on the old tale of Captain Flint, that John Silver wants nothing more than a piece of the pie itself. If it means ignoring the pleas with the rest of his crew during the final moments of the planets collapse, so be it, though we don't actually see him betraying them literally towards the end of the film and by the looks of things some of them managed to return back in one piece. Early on before the 'I'm Still Here' montage, while Silver doesn't mind the company of Jim, he has much little respect for him and treats him much like an overbearing image would to get the boy to learn. It is only after their ongoing sessions aboard the ship, teaching him crafts and spending time with him, does his stance lessen as does his foreboding first image Hawkins has about being with him or the crew in the first place.
"Long" John is of a dubious nature, changing his stance from the unwitting and kindly shipmate, in an effort to fit the needs of his agenda. When seen around 'Jimbo' he represents himself in such a way that you wouldn't think he was the very cyborg that destroyed the Benbow Inn in search of the treasure map - up for conversation and spinning tall tales of his previous adventures, stretching them for sake of impression or exaggerating the adventure to make it sound far more epic than it might have been. This could be seen as a way of earning respect amongst the young, as they can be easily tricked moreso than an experienced sailor at that; while his adventures were indeed very strong, and quite formulatic in how the strategies to overcome such battles worth telling, one might assume that his memory of it all appears to have been vague. With old age, perhaps his remembrance of such is slipping away with him. On the other hand, he's not one to argue with the debates and logic of the captain even his crew wouldn't mind slashing at the throat of everyone afoot in an early raid, and stops Mr. Scroop in the nick of time during a brief scuffle with Jim Hawkins. It is in fact he, along with Scroop, who sets up the trap which leads Arrow into the falling black hole in order to pin the blame on Jim - who was tasked with setting up the lifelines at the time - but disparages all knowledge from the head of the crew that the pirate had anything to do with it. He changes sides once more, when it is revealed he speaks quite down of the young lad down in the galley amidst his men to an unknowing but listening Jim inside the barrel of food. He has a history of being a brute, and very clever, and admits that the whole thing is just a ruse to avoid suspicion. After all, if they're going to succeed in this mission to get the treasure without trouble they will need to keep their antics to a minimum without insinuating trouble.
The pirate's soft side has never been scraped on the surface other than his love the first boat he raided, and owned towards the events prior of 'Treasure Planet' the film. John, for one, never had a truly strong soft side to him beyond his own mother and father, but the presence of young Jim Hawkins helps bring that a bit moreso than he and the other shipmates in watching had come to know. The fact that the young boy shares a desire to prove that he's not just another man aboard the ship, but his agility and skills aboard the ship, the fact that he resembles a bit of John in his youth - a bit reckless, a fast learner, getting to know the in's and the out's of the ship and it's many wonders, and even perhaps a bit of his renegade personality, sparks a keen interest in John midway through the film and begins to grow. He is seen courting Jim for something the larger pirate is at fault for, building up his confidence much like the father Jim has probably rarely seen, and is one to acknowledge. John Silver is quick to tell Scroop and the others that while he may have earned a bit of respect in Jim, especially with his quick-thinking and successful run on the ship on the technical side, especially when in danger, that his brute side will never leave him. After all, he has a goal in mind, and a past to uphold of his very own of which he built from the ground up in the long past. Still, the influence of Jim himself has grown well enough for the pirate to wind up sacrificing his very collection in order to save his good pal. While admitting that he'll get over it, it's quite likely he might have reverted back to his old ways in an effort to resume the life he had, but now on a solo level. Whether or not he still keeps in touch with his old crew remains to be seen.
history:
"Long" John Silver's beginnings harken back to the planet of Gniskco-M ('je-nisk-co-em') where his father was a respectable crewmate on board many ships, mainly gaining experience throughout the various trips and earning money by scouting other planets and relaying the information he had logged back on the starport. His mother, fairly caring and kind, had high hopes that young John wouldn't seek out a similar occupation with the discovery of other planets and galaxies for the benefit he would choose something a lot more safer, for his protection. Needless to say his father's adventures and what he'd relay back to his son through various logs and notes did all but increase his son's interest and furthermore allow him to wind up persuing the career later on. Because Silver was a bit of a ruffian and a bit of a troublemaker, this proved to be a rather difficult task to truly earn such a position - making himself quite an impressive amount of enemies in his schooling which only made matters worse rather than allow him permission to seek out a temporary position even in the most lukewarm of spacer flightboat. Rocky grades didn't seem to help much either; although certainly very bright for his age, the life of being able to go out sailing and explore the world, learning through interactivity with your best friends and father in charge, seemed to be a lot more fascinating than being stuck reading books.
The pirate to be was certainly aggressive and full of mind games to play on the meek when he was growing up; rather than physically pick on others due to his bulky size, which would continue to grow to this day, he was more of a manipulator than actually doing much damage to anyone. In one such incident, for example, when caught in the middle of an altercation involving one of few school companions he had made and a group of five alien species [one of which was a young, and forced-to-be-involved Dr. Delbert Dobbler] over a spat of stolen goods from the school treasury - John turned against his friend in favor of joining the group. True, having defended his friend might have set a course of proving his loyalty on school grounds, but considering that these five boys had intended to spend their cleverly stolen loot through means of treatury, lying and stealing from bigger names on the campus on some of the coolest hoverscooters this side of the planet, why would he want to pass that one off? From this point on, it didn't take too long for him to discover the advantages of being a neusance and a thief. He would wind up balancing the fine line between being a physical menace and that of a rogue, ultimately causing trouble towards the end of his schooling, be it boys and girls like himself or even some of the younger students. It became apparent that because of both the reasons, of which he was very rarely caught until his last days before graduation, he was better off shipped to a juvenile's court to be 'sorted out'.
At the best and thorough intervention of his parents was he lucky not to have been kicked out, but rather than be locked away for his troubles he was instead similarly transported much like the later Jim Hawkins to serve aboard a crew of spacers in order to be 'converted' into someone more proper and defined, and not a menace to society before it was too late. He was placed with a lower rank and remained that way aboard the R.A. Blackboot for almost a whole year and a half before finally getting used to the ship's style, it's own team, and make. He learned more from this trip than he had ever gotten from books and his own father's logs, but enjoyed the experience, calling it one of the best times he ever had even for a sailing trip with no true mission other than exploration. John Silver would ultimately work his prowess amongst the crew gradually and form an alliance which soon became more than just a group, it became more a family in every respect of the word. Within days of their first mutiny on the bounty, the crew scored a success and eventually claimed the entire boat - ransacking everything they had from their weapons, food, hidden goods, money, and a few of the women crewmates who operated the cook's room and engines below the deck. It would be the first in a long line of sailing that would pit him against many good battles, including a near close encounter with a Captain Hook-like character named Captain Kalliss Resun, one of the most feared pirates of the area near also the infamous Captain Flint. His success, though long as it was to build up to that point, earned him the nickname 'Long' - though some have disputed this was because of his long face, usually a toss between often cold-hearted or to the point of serious-minded, never once letting go of anything he sets his mind to.
They had gone so far as managing a hefty lump sum of multiple goods, successful war battles and even a few close calls [including a successful rematch with the one with the giant monster which claimed a substantially large portion of his and the main crew, which wound up taking his arm, part of his face, and leg], but none could have ever came into the fateful meeting in which his own shipmate, Billy Bones, unearthed the Treasure Planet map. On their third year of travel, Bones had uncovered it and sought later on to abandon the group to finally find it all with a small orb-like device which revealed the truth of where to go. Upon refusal to give it up, an elongated search was heald to fetch it, even if it meant death and pillaging every planet he could get to just to have his hands on it. Upon finally reaching his final destination, the map wound up in the hands of a young Jim Hawkins and set the stage for a long relationship in the time that would follow. For now, eager to follow it without making a scene, John Silver hid out between the calm of the storm and managed to earn him a spot as reasonable and well-meaning cook aboard the RLS Legacy. As his experience had already been widespread, it hadn't reached this far of the starport and was easily accepted; his time aboard the Blackboot had been recorded but doctored to skate by the official papers even for Captain Amelia, which allowed him a position and was able to bring most of his crew along with him by means of personal recommendation. Following a trail by a few of his own spies, creeping about, there had been a rumor that the device had followed Jim Hawkins towards the ship - and with that Silver and his men stayed put to see if it was true. Indeed it was, and what such a lucky pull it had been.
While he had kept Jim Hawkins under a close eye to make sure he played no true threat to his hidden agenda, he and 'Jimbo', as he liked to call him - developed a special kind of friendship. He admired him for his spunk, and talent, even for a young lad aboard the crew, which was met with much disliked results amongst his men, particular one of his best, a rather wicked spider-like creature named Scroop. Upon the discovery that he had developed a bit of a soft-spot for the young human boy, John Silver insists that he still has it. Even if he did like the boy and give him confidence to go through the world's punches and show the world what he is made of, he's their ticket to the secret of Treasure Planet and all the gold that remains aboard it. This would hold true throughout his tenure aboard the ship, having a hand in taking out the disciplined Mr. Arrow in the dangerous trenches of a blackhole nearly dragging them inside of it, from the inside. It wouldn't be until after the long adventure that had ensued that day that the mutiny he had been planning now finally set a course into action, bringing up memories of his very first one aboard the Blackboot. He would take turns exchanging encounters with Jim Hawkins, B.E.N - a seemingly paranoid and off-the-rocker robot who had a part of him removed to protect Captain Flint's treasure, Dr. Doppler and Captain Amelia, in a race to find the treasure stashed on the planet. The discovery, in which all the treasure of a 'thousand worlds' had been accessed via a triangular portal on the planet which could take them anywhere they needed to go, no matter how far off, was brief and short-lasted despite gaining a sufficient amount; the planet would ultimately collapse upon itself and explode following it's self-destruct sequence.
Despite the loss of the treasure, Silver had chosen instead to save the life of young Jim that day, though that hasn't stopped him from continuing his sailing in search fo the next greatest thing out there. With such a wide and vastness of this space out there, there's plenty more where just Treasure Planet had to offer, and with that he holds it of high regard to continue.
ambitions: John Silver has never once strayed away from his mission to find the buried treasure of the infamous, and appropriately titled, 'Treasure Planet'. While he has already done enough as he had gotten over, a supposed twenty years experience sailing with a motley crue of varying alien creatures big, small, large, thin, the true heart lies in that very planet. In the end, and amidst the planet's initial collapse and falling apart - John sets himself up for another adventure... and is fully prepared for it. Even if he has to look for it in the very depths of Walt Disney World itself!
strengths && abilities:
+ Strong; who was once physically good as a human of sorts, got much better as a part cyborg.
+ Able to craft weapons or items, such as a canon or knives for cutting, or more, from his right arm.
+ Abides by the laws of a pirate; soft-side equal to that of a thunderous ambition to cripple anyone in his path blocking his goal.
+ His eye, the one replaced by part of the 'great battle', allows him the ability of nightvision, seeking out hidden objects, x-ray vision, and body-heat. It also serves as a main powering battery to his parts, which connects to the inside.
+ Rather clever; coolly stands his ground and poses a very big presence to everyone.
flaws:
- Slow. His right leg was bad enough before Jim further damaged it, now making him limp. [aided by a cane created by his cyborgnetic right arm].
- Disloyal; cannot be trusted by most means. He is to be kept a watchful eye on at all times, as well as any crew with him at the time.
- Interfering with his eye, as difficult as it may be and possibly is, could potentially damage parts of his cyborgnetic parts. It holds most of the things coming together, even for a tiny little thing.
- "Soft spot" for younger characters, should any come, much like Jim Hawkins - or as he affectionately called him, 'Jimbo.'
likes:
+ Treasure! Who doesn't like the golden goods?
+ Seafaring/Spacefaring - the thrill of getting up and going, everything about sailing, no matter where.
+ Being in charge. Not one to be messed with, considering his physical strength and cyborgnetic abilities.
+ Cooking. Fondness for good food, well-prepared, for any ship.
+ Small, innocent crush on Captain Amelia. Upon seeing the result of her and Dr. Doppler, kindly stepped back from it.
+ Jim Hawkins, as a would-be young son of his own. See's potential in him.
+ Seems to enjoy naming his boat 'Rikia', in name a female pirate he once met but had never had the pleasure of doing fine sailing with her, once aboard the region of Symacep-IV; her last name? Blackboot.
dislikes:
- Reckless crew members, particularly his own, that could botch the plan.
- Traditional captain-types; never was one to wear a proper suit to a trip across the skies.
- Dr. Doppler. Too pathetic for his own tastes, but that's his own opinion.
- Some alien types. There's just a few you can't reason or bargain with, sometimes.
fears:
- Bested in the field of combat out in the open space, sea, and going down without a proper battle; namely, cheated on, when the fight was fair.
- To be empty handed after going through all the trouble to find one grandious treasure, afoot.
what makes this character unique: "Long" John Silver, this particular Disney version of him at least, is a twist on the tale of good old 'Treasure Island.' I don't think I could have picked anyone better than him that I can relate to something I like, or have grown to like, in previous experiences with pirate role-players. John is the kind of person you want to have with you to go out, live the life of the free and turn your back on a world you might not have found happy for you in the first place. Give him a crew, or a boat at the very least, and the world - or rather, worlds - is all in the palm of your hand.
RP SAMPLE: ----
The winds across the dark, blue vastness of space's farthest regions breezed across the pot-bellied pirate's face as he saled his ship across the open gates of total... nothing. A week had undergone his sailing tip, with good ol' Jimbo back at home mayhaps with a good party in his honor and the reconstruction of his mother's tavern; nothing new to report on his own other than smooth sailing at the moment - being alone never felt so good at the moment. Perhaps he was getting too old to have a crew of five, or ten, and that he was meant to do this by himself. Still, the company got ahold of him now and then, but not as much as it could have been. He adjusted his foot onto his sailboat's finest wood and used his eye to survey the landings, the stars watching over him like an audience of a thousand women and men at his concert. That's what he had with him! That's what made a spacer, a true spacer, to overcome the odds of having the open realms around you and everything limitless.
This was his life. The best life of them all, and without interruption. No restrictions, even for a lowly pirate such as himself. Perhaps he was going about this loneliness thing far too long, perhaps... he could retire, once he had sought aboard another treasure, and start with a clean record. This could be that day. Optimism began to fill as his eye spotted something up ahead, something beckoning to him and calling out his name, and after rising up slowly with a blossoming grin on his face, the pirate - self-entitled captain of the honorary S.S. Utopia - made his way to the end to adjust the sails. With the rockets ready and geared up for another flight, he set a course to the left to be able to breeze past the small rocks up ahead, to avoid getting caught in a nasty storm.
Jimbo woulda 'ave loved to 'ave seen this, he spoke in a gruff, caring voice, shaking his head with a wry chuckle which echoed into the empty road all over him. Ya see this 'ere, m'lad? Look! A small shower - a small whimper in comparison to what's normally out there! But aye, nothin' a few tossin' and turnin' won't fix, yah see.
The meteors ranged from big and small, boulders that could crumble your ship and leave you sucked up dry of all your best underground crew and all that was there with it. He'd seen the worst of them, taking out ships before he even had the chance to strike. He could have admitted that he would have loved to have saved them had they followed to directions, but he let them take the hits. Aye, that's just how it worked. If ye can't go about takin' help, why go about giving it? No matter. They were able to pull through but it wound up draining their engines upon their maden voyage, so he had heard from person to person years back; it was a miracle, he figured.
Without noticing it, despite what his eye could already show him, the meteo shower was getting to be far worse than he originally predicted. He kept the barings sharp. His ship was no more than a lifeboat, at best, and wasn't equipped with nothing more than himself and a small batch of food he snuck aboard before heading off on his solo adventure. It wouldn't be long before this struggle to keep'er steady and not wind up to be smacked at full speed would wind up taking him out as well. Still, armed and equipped to take them out with his own canon, the one embedded into his arm - John looked more than willing for a game of fun amongst these things.
C'mon, c'mon! Comin' through, ya mutts! Don't think this canon ain't gonna do me some good - I'll blast ya all to the underground if I gotta! Which wun'ya wants some'a this brazen wood, aye? HaHAAAA!~
They could label him as a madman and a fool, going down in the blaze of glory like this, but despite the risks he came and he conquered.
