character basics.[/ul]
age: Twenty.
species: Human, but quite recently, a frog.
birthplace: Maldonia, a small country in the Mediterranean.
movie: The Princess and the Frog [2009].
title: y o u must {kiss} ME.
why: I’ve been following the development of The Princess and the Frog for the past two years or so, and I fell in love (not romantically) with Naveen the first moment I saw him. I’ve found we can relate in some ways: we both love to have a good time, we love music, and we’re both lazy (though he’s more so than I). He’s been my favorite of the Disney Princes ever since, on equal grounds with Florian. I hope I’ll be able to do him the justice he deserves.

character appearance[/ul]
facial description/mood expressions: Naveen’s features are strong and masculine, yet still youthful. His face is oval shaped and he has an olive complexion. Thick, black eyebrows arch over Naveen’s large and expressive dark-brown eyes, which are set evenly on either side of a large nose. His dark lips are thick and full, and he has a perfect smile, full of pearly white teeth. Naveen also has a prominent chin.
If a person could consider a frog handsome, then Naveen undoubtedly is. His features, though (obviously) different from his human form, have the same quality. He still has the same eyebrows, eyes, and smile.
A charming and dashing smile is almost always plastered on Naveen’s face, showing off a mouth of pearly white teeth. His eyes are the same, usually sparkling and easy to get lost into. It takes little to no effort to keep up an assuring and flirtatious appearance.
He also puts on a playful smirk whenever he thinks he’s got the upper hand in a situation. Whenever Naveen is unsure of him or having the blues, he takes on a weak frown. When shocked or surprised, his eyes go wide and his jaw drops open. When jealous or angry, his eyebrows furrow and his mouth becomes a scowl. No matter what expressions Naveen takes on, the ladies still think them adorable. His expressions hardly change between forms.
clothing style: Naveen owns a wide variety of clothes, ranging from the very casual to the very formal. He likes to wear the former more than the latter, though. After marrying Tiana, he gained a swamp-inspired outfit that he now uses as a costume. Naveen’s favorite colors are white, yellow, and brown, but since having become a frog (and his trip through the Bayou), he’s also added green to that list.
Frogs don’t (usually) wear clothes, but his skin is a medium olive-green color, and is shiny from the mucus it secretes. Rounded lines of olive-drab decorate Naveen’s upper legs, two on each one.
body build: As a human, Naveen is of a medium build. He stands at 6’0” and has a finely muscled body, his arms and chest being the most prominent. The combination of good looks, a charming personality, and smooth-talk bring the ladies flocking. He might not seem very imposing as a frog, but Naveen is actually well-built in that form, too. He has powerful legs – and a tongue to match!
any unique traits: Naveen’s appearance in itself is unique. His dark skin, his neat and wavy hair, his sparkling eyes and perfect smile – no wonder women love him! He’s always moving and full of energy, usually dancing without even noticing it. The times Naveen is conscious of this, it takes all he has to control himself (mostly to keep up appearances). His voice is smooth and seductive, mainly because of his heavy accent; it sounds a blend of French and Spanish, but the Maldonian language itself is descended from Italian.

original character analysis.[/ul]
Growing older, he grew quite handsome and charming. He quickly learned to use his good looks and charm to win over the opposite sex, and having the natural gifts of persuasion and wit, Naveen was able to get him out of most situations. This worked for him for a while; that is, until his parents kicked him out. Forced with the fact that he might have to become responsible and hard working, he took the easy way out as he’d always done, only to have it backfire on him.
Shortly after being changed into a frog, Naveen realized that he couldn’t really do anything for himself besides sing, dance, and play a variety of instruments. With the help of Tiana and his friends, he’s learned that he’s not as helpless as he once thought; he can do things if he just puts his mind to it – not just for himself, but for others too. He’s also realized that money isn’t everything, but love and friendship are. Newly found courage and dedication keep Naveen more responsible and a hard worker.
Despite changing for the better, Naveen is still a work in progress. He’s still not above partying and dancing through the streets with his ukulele, and he can still be arrogant and self-absorbed at times. Being married to Tiana now, he’s completely given up his flirtatious ways. It was surprisingly easy, believe it or not. Naveen’s heart belongs to Tiana alone, though to his chagrin; the ladies still flock to him.
history: Naveen was born the elder son of the King and Queen of Maldonia. As far as he can remember, he was spoiled by his servants and the attention from his parents. He enjoyed quite the pampered lifestyle, and also growing up, he saw he was growing more and more handsome. Discovering his gifts of persuasion and devilish charm, Naveen was able to make the ladies crazily flock to him, and able to talk himself out of having to do any work. In his teens, he began chasing the castle's younger female servants. He'd go into the village and do the same with the peasant girls. Naveen knew very well what his looks, royal birth, and charming personality could get him, and he used these to his advantage.
Only after the birth of his younger brother did the King and Queen begin to notice. When Naveen turned twenty, they'd enough of his play-boy antics. They cut him off from the family fortune and the crown, only allowing him back when he’d either married or got a job. Reluctantly, Naveen boarded a ship with his valet, Lawrence, and left.
They eventually arrived in New Orleans, where Naveen heard of Charlotte La Bouff and how her father was the wealthiest man in Louisiana. He decided he’d woo and marry her, if only to regain his parents’ favor. While dancing in the streets and having a good time, Naveen (and incidentally, Lawrence) met Dr. Facilier. Facilier, through the use of misleading slang, convinced Naveen that he could help him get what he wanted without having to marry or work. Naveen and Lawrence followed him to his parlor, where Facilier tricked Naveen and turned him into a frog. By taking some of his blood and instilling it in an amulet, Lawrence was given Naveen’s appearance.
Naveen fled afterwards, following Lawrence to the La Bouff estate. Hopping onto the balcony, he met Tiana. Thinking she was a princess because of her costume, he convinced her to kiss him by lying about buying Tiana her restaurant. He thought that it’d break the spell, but because she wasn’t a princess, she ended up a frog as well. In her rage, she ended up causing both of them to fall off the balcony and into the masquerade ball below. The two barely escaped with their lives, flying away on balloons that’d eventually pop and send them falling into the Bayou.
There, they’d meet and befriend Louis and Ray, and barely escape getting eaten by gators and frog hunters. After Lawrence’s amulet began to empty, Facilier was forced to make a deal with demons. To complete it, he needed more of Naveen’s blood to refill the amulet. Sending the demons after him, Naveen was almost captured – had Mama Odie not stepped in. She defeated them with her white magic and took the friends to her home in the deepest, darkest part of the Bayou. There, Mama Odie tried to convince Naveen, Tiana, and Louis that what they wanted was not what they really needed. Along the way, Naveen had learned the meaning of responsibility and hard work. He’d realized that he loved Tiana, and what he really needed was to be with her. It was revealed that he needed to kiss Charlotte before the end of Mardi Gras, because she was the Princess of the Mardi Gras Parade. Naveen, Tiana, Louis, and Ray thanked Mama Odie and left, where they boarded a steamboat back to New Orleans.
Naveen made a makeshift ring and arranged a private dinner for him and Tiana, planning to reveal his feelings and propose. As they talked, however, he saw she was more interested in her restaurant than him, and he believed she didn’t return his feelings. Naveen promised to marry Charlotte and give her their money so Tiana could open her restaurant, but was eventually captured by more demons and taken back to Facilier’s. There, Facilier restored Lawrence’s amulet and locked Naveen in a jewelry box. Ray eventually found him and freed him, stealing Lawrence’s amulet and flying away.
Charlotte soon met Naveen at the church, where he revealed to her the situation. Tiana came and told him she loved him too. Despite a marriage proposal, Charlotte declined it and offered to help Naveen and Tiana because she saw how they loved each other. She kissed him, but it became too late. Just as the couple had accepted a fate of being frogs forever, Louis brought a mortally wounded Ray to them, he having been stepped on by Facilier. Ray died and Naveen, Tiana, and Louis attended a sad funeral. They got over their grief when they saw Ray’s spirit join the Evening Star.
The couple held a swamp wedding soon after, presided over by Mama Odie. After their kiss, Naveen and Tiana were restored to their proper forms; because Tiana had married into royalty, she became a princess. They returned to New Orleans and held a proper wedding, attended by their friends and family. After the “second” wedding, Naveen and Tiana managed to win back the old sugar mill after Louis scared the Fenner brothers into signing the release papers. Working together, the couple opened “Tiana’s Palace,” the most popular restaurant in New Orleans. Naveen and Louis started a band called “The Firefly Five Plus Lou,” named in Ray’s memory, which became the restaurant’s entertainment. Naveen also became a waiter and delighted people with his minced specialties. Husband and wife went out on the balcony and shared a dance and kiss, looked down upon by Ray and Evangeline.

what makes this character unique: Naveen isn’t like the other Disney Princes. The others are very stereotypical – perfect and flawless pretty-boys who save the day with little effort and get the girl in the end. Naveen, on the other hand, is a spoiled and lazy bum who, while changing throughout the movie, still remains flawed in the end. He doesn’t get Tiana as easily as the other Princes, since she wasn’t even looking for love in the first place. He’s also of a different ethnic background than the others, and is among the older ones in the group.
RP SAMPLE: Refer to Florian and Arthur's applications for this.
