Elsa had heard about the talent show Hector was organizing, quite possibly having something to do with his grandson Miguel disappearing from the parks, and Elsa wanted to show her support. It had taken some time for her to choose a suitable song and learn the words--for all of her adaptations to the technologies of today, Elsa hadn't explored the internet much at all before her search. She aimed to keep it that way.
One cast member had suggested looking at a singer named Idina Menzel, her voice heavy with sarcasm. Though, Elsa couldn't figure out why the cast member had taken that tone of voice. From the songs Elsa had sampled, the suggested singer had a lovely voice, and well within Elsa's vocal range. Indeed, Elsa had chosen one of Idina Menzel's songs, Like Lightning. Finding a version with only the melody was far more difficult, though. Elsa considered changing her song choice, but the words struck a chord with her and she asked every cast member she came across for their help.
Finally, through a friend-of-a-friend with high-quality editing powers, a cast member gave her a copy she could use. Elsa had no idea how the friend's powers worked, but it was certainly magic of some kind.
The day of the talent show, Elsa arrived with the small "flash drive" hanging from a string on her wrist. Her hands were a little colder than usual, she knew, because of some anxieties. It was one thing to address her people as their queen, and it was quite another to sing before a crowd.
She found herself in line behind Panchito, who was fidgeting enough that he didn't seem to notice her. A change of hairstyle or dress didn't seem to be enough to confuse the amorous rooster. Or, maybe, he was eyeing someone in the audience. That seemed more likely. Either way, Elsa was glad his affections weren't aimed at her.
He sang of Mexico, a nice tune Elsa found herself harmonizing with under her breath. She handed over her flash drive to the appropriate cast member and took the stage after the rooster vacated it.
She felt a flash of nerves facing the audience. This was no diplomatic moment. She felt like she was baring herself to these people. Baring herself was not something Elsa did lightly.
The music started, and Elsa knew she had only seconds to recover and sing for them. As she sang, she reflected on herself, thinking that if she could go back in time, find herself, and tell herself things, the fact that no one was fireproof would definitely be among her advice. It wasn't long before Elsa's eyes closed and she released her anxieties, letting the song fill her spirit. It was exhilarating. "All my light..."
With the song over, Elsa bent forward, holding her arms out wide, and exited the stage.
